Our upcoming speaker, MK Hanin Zoabi, was among dozens of Palestinian citizens injured by Israeli police last week. She was shot in the back and neck with rubber coated bullets. Many believe she was specifically targeted by police. She has received hundreds of death threats since her participation in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla. Despite her injuries, Hanin has travelled to the US as planned and will speak at a MECA event in Berkeley with Areej Ja'fari on Tuesday, November 2.  In a recent interview with Ali Abunimah, she stated: “We are struggling for a normal state which is a state for all of its citizens, [in] which the Palestinians and the Israeli Jews can have full equality. McMaster Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights (SPHR) is pleased to anounce its upcoming event "Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner's Guide" where author Ben White will be presenting an important lecture as part of his Canada-wide tour. The lecture will focus on providing basic information on Israeli Apartheid and how it impacts the daily lives of the Palestinian people and their struggle for self-determination. It is drawn from Ben White new book, titled "Israeli Apartheid: A Beginner's Guide" which will be on sale at the event for $18. The lecture will be followed by a moderated Q&A session.
About Ben White:
Ben White is a freelance journalist and writer specialising in Palestine/Israel. He also writes on the broader Middle East, Islam and Christianity, and the ‘war on terror’. Ben has been visiting Palestine/Israel since 2003 for periods of between two weeks and three months, typically basing himself in the Bethlehem district of the West Bank.
His articles have appeared in a variety of international publications, including the Guardian online’s ‘Comment is free’, the New Statesman, Electronic Intifada, Christian Science Monitor, Palestine Chronicle, Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, Middle East International, Church Times, Church of England Newspaper, Third Way, and Palestine-Israel Journal.
In 2008, along with blogger and film-maker Philip Rizk, Ben organised the ‘JustPeace60’ declaration of Christian leaders around the world. On Israel’s 60th anniversary, this statement was published in the UK national newspaper ‘The Independent’ and reproduced all over the internet. He has given numerous talks on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in universities, churches, and community centres.
He graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature in 2005. His final year dissertation was a comparative study of the representation of dispossession in the contemporary literature of Palestinians and Native Americans. He now lives in the UK.

Come and celebrate Palestine, learn Arabic, study history, know the
people and their culture, share some time with local families and
volunteer with a local community organization.

The Palestinian summer celebration is a unique annual program that
gives people from all over the world the chance to encounter the life
and culture in Palestine in addition to donating some of their time to
a local community organization through voluntary work and internships.
The Palestinian summer celebration 2007 will take place in the
Bethlehem area in Palestine, between June 15th and August 17th 2008.
The annual celebration is organized by Siraj Center for Holy Land
Studies www.sirajcenter.org in partnership with Bethlehem University
www.bethlehem.edu and the US based Society for Biblical Studies,
www.sbsedu.org.
Participants will also have the opportunity to listen and question
high level speakers of various positions and expertise.
The 2007 participants developed videos explaining their time and
experience during the 2007 Summer Celebration:
