Ahmad Sa'adat's message to the World Social Forum - Free Palestine from Hadarim Prison

Ahmad Sa’adat, imprisoned General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, sent the following message to the World Social Forum – Free Palestine taking place in Porto Alegre, Brazil, November 28-December 1, 2012:

Dear friends: Today I greet you and value fondly your great internationalist role in support of the oppressed peoples and classes for democracy, freedom and social justice, alongside our people confronting aggression, occupation and many forms and practices of colonial racism, debunking the Israeli representation of itself in the role of the victim and supporting the resistance of our people to terrorism. Our people and progressive forces stand together with you in the same trench to defeat imperialism and build a new system of justice and equality based on human needs. This forum builds on our hopes and expectations of a broad movement, with agreement on the state and continental level, and the ceiling of our hopes rise. It dashes the allegations of the theorists of capitalism that victory in the Cold War and the defeat of the Soviet Union is the end of socialism; on the contrary, the theory and practice of socialism, revolution and liberation struggle led by leaders such as Simon Bolivar and Zapata and Guevara and Salvador Allende and Jose Marti and many more, those leaders who led the revolutionary process, is growing and expanding with the dawn of each new day.

Dear Friends: Holding this forum under the title Free Palestine while our people prepare for the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People makes us feel the genuine solidarity of the peoples of the earth with our cause, and also reinforces our determination to escalate the struggle for the freedom of our land and people, and the progressive and revolutionary forces and peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America illuminate our path.

Dear Friends: You meet now as the occupation continues its aggression after Israel stopped all attempts to achieve a political settlement that recognizes our national rights, leaving the people with no choice but the choice of resistance. Israel has launched a comprehensive military aggression on our people in the Gaza Strip, and Israel and its political parties have made the blood of our people pay the price for its propaganda campaign. Israel has exercised the utmost arrogance, dealing with itself as above international law, with the support and encouragement of the U.S. and its allies. This aggression is part of an ongoing series of systematic attacks against our people, including the expansion of settlements, division of the West Bank into ghettos and cantons by building the apartheid wall, isolation and Judaization of Jerusalem, confiscation of land, demolition of homes and displacement of our people through assassinations, mass arrests, and daily settler assaults on our people.

Dear friends: Israel would not have dared to undertake its aggression without international cover, which is provided by the major imperialist powers. It is necessary that the free world coordinate its efforts to stop Israel’s reckless violations of international law and stop their deadly adventures. It is necessary in this arena to establish popular activities under the title, “Stop the aggression on our people and their land, end the siege, and provide international protection for our people.” We also must develop of activities and events to besiege the occupation and its aggressive policies of racism, including expanding the boycott of Israeli products and especially those produced in the settlements and the prosecution of the political, military, settlement and economic leaders of the occupation, to bring them before international criminal courts, citing the Goldstone report and numerous other documentation of Israeli crimes. Alongside the resistance of our people, it is necessary to besiege and isolate the occupation at the international level and put pressure on the forces of the international community to compel Israel to respect international law and the implementation of international resolutions, including our people’s national rights of return, self-determination, and establishment of their independent state.

Dear friends: Before concluding, I bring you greetings on behalf of the Palestinian political prisoners and salute their active role in the Intifadas within the prisons, in September of last year and April of this year, culminating with their steadfastness and support to achieve many of their demands, including dealing a blow to solitary confinement and opening the door to forcing the occupation to deal with our political prisoners as prisoners of war and freedom fighters.

The Palestinian prisoners held fast to their rights, to international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention and directed their cause away from the cycle of Israeli blackmail and pressure upon the Palestinian Authority to make political concessions in futile negotiations with Israel, and instead opened the way for their freedom as part of the freedom of our people from the shackles of the occupation.

Dear friends: Again I salute your most valuable role and I wish all success for your forum that reaffirms my faith in the inevitability of the victory of our people and all oppressed peoples, classes and nations struggling for freedom, our fists raised high and our eyes pointed toward the sun of freedom, the sun of justice, the sun of liberation. Let our motto be: Palestine is an integral part of the cause of freedom, justice and peace in this world.

January 15, 2012 is the 10th anniversary of the abduction of Palestinian political leader Ahmad Sa'adat by the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah at the hands of the PA intelligence services headed by Tawfiq Tirawi. Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, has been imprisoned for ten years - first by PA security, then under US and British guard in a PA prison in Jericho, and now, for the past six years, inside Israeli jails alongside thousands of other Palestinian political prisoners after a siege on Jericho and the kidnapping of Sa'adat and his comrades in 2006.

The kidnapping of Ahmad Sa'adat on January 15, 2002, was emblematic of the deep damage of the crime of "security cooperation" to the Palestinian people and their national cause. "Security cooperation" has meant nothing but attacks on the Palestinian resistance at the behest of Israel, committed by Palestinian Authority hands. The abduction of Ahmad Sa'adat, and his imprisonment - and that of his comrades - in the PA prison in Jericho, under U.S. and British guard, was a clear example of the PA's status as fundamentally beholden to the interests of Israel, the U.S. and other international powers, at the expense of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian resistance.

The abduction of Ahmad Sa'adat has come to symbolize the thousands of Palestinians who have gone through the jails of the PA because of their loyalty to the Palestinian people, cause and resistance, and the impunity of PA officials - like Tawfiq Tirawi - who continue to find lucrative and influential positions within the Authority despite their shameless acts of betrayal, imprisoning, and abducting Palestinian leaders and activists.

This complicity with Israeli demands for the subjugation and suppression of the Palestinian people led directly to the Israeli assault on Jericho prison in 2006, where Ahmad Sa'adat and his comrades were immobilized in the face of Israeli occupation aggression. Sa'adat had never been charged with a crime throughout his four years in PA prison; his release had been ordered by the PA's highest court. Yet the PA refused to release Sa'adat, respecting the dictates of Israel, the US and Britain above Palestinian legitimacy; it claimed that it "could not guarantee his safety" outside the prison. Yet it simultaneously guaranteed that he and his comrades could not be safe from Israeli aggression, their locations known at all times by Israel and under the watchful eyes of U.S. and British guards, directly in collusion with Israel. (It should be noted that, forewarned of the attack, the U.S. and British guards absented Jericho prison at the request of the Israeli occupation army.)

Since his second kidnapping, from a PA prison to the heart of the occupation's jails, Ahmad Sa'adat has remained a leader of the prisoners' movement. Today, he has spent nearly three full years in isolation at the hands of the occupation. He was an inspiration - and his release from isolation a key demand of the prisoners' hunger strike that galvanized the Palestinian prisoners' movement and the prisoners' cause in October 2011.

Just as Sa'adat's kidnapping is a symbol of the crime of security cooperation, Sa'adat's imprisonment in the hands of the occupation is a symbol of the steadfastness of the nearly 5,000 prisoners inside the jails of the occupation - like his fellow prisoners, resisting isolation, refusing rights violations, and not allowing their will and strength to be broken by the actions of the occupation jailers.

Ten years after the abduction of Ahmad Sa'adat, this anniversary is a reminder that we must continue to organize, act, and demand the freedom of Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian political prisoners, and expose the complicity of the U.S., British, Canadian and other international governments in the enforcement of "security cooperation" and the abuse and mass imprisonment of Palestinian political leaders and activists by the Israeli occupation. While the Quartet pushes the Palestinian Authority to return to bogus negotiations with the occupation (while the occupation continues settlement expansion, ethnic cleansing, land confiscation, home demolitions, isolation, solitary confinement, and mass imprisonment), it is urgent that we form an international popular basis of support for the Palestinian people and their activists and leaders inside the jails of the occupation, rather than those complicit with the occupation at the table of negotiations.

Take Action!

1. Picket, protest or call the Israeli embassy or consulate in your location and demand the immediate freedom of Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian political prisoners.

2. Distribute the free downloadable Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat flyer in your community at local events.

3. Write to the International Committee of the Red Cross and other human rights organizations to exercise their responsibilities and act swiftly to demand that prisoners' rights are recognized. Email the ICRC, whose humanitarian mission includes monitoring the conditions of prisoners, at JER_jerusalem@icrc.org, and inform them about the urgent situation of Ahmad Sa'adat. Make it clear that isolation is a human rights violation and a form of torture, and that the ICRC must stand up and play its role to defend prisoners' rights.

4. Email the Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat at campaign@freeahmadsaadat.org with announcements, reports and information about your local events, activities and flyer distributions.

WHO IS AHMAD SA'ADAT?

Ahmad Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was elected to his position in 2001 following the assassination of the previous General Secretary, Abu Ali Mustafa, on August 27, 2001 by a U.S.-made Apache missile shot from an Israeli military helicopter as he sat in his office in Ramallah. PFLP fighters retaliated by assassinating Rehavam Ze'evi, the racist extremist Israeli tourism minister and head of the Moledet party, notorious for his political platform based on the "transfer" or ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, on October 17, 2001.

Sa'adat was abducted by Palestinian Authority security forces after engaging in a meeting with PA officials under false pretenses in February 2002, and was held in the Muqata' PA presidential building in Ramallah until April 2002, when in an agreement with Israel, the U.S. and Britain, he and four of his comrades were held in the Palestinian Authority's Jericho prison, under U.S. and British guard.

He remained in the PA jails, without trial or charge, an imprisonment that was internationally condemned, until March 14, 2006, when the prison itself was besieged by the occupation army and he and his comrades were kidnapped. While imprisoned in the PA jail in Jericho, he was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council. Since that time, he has been held in the prisons of the occupation and continually refused to recognize the illegitimate military courts of the Israeli occupation. He was sentenced to thirty years in prison on December 25, 2008 solely for his political activity, and has spent nearly three years in isolation at the present time.

Sa'adat Hospitalized + Victory On the Way in Hunger Strike

+ Congratulations upon the Liberation of Palestinian Prisoners

Ahmad Sa'adat, imprisoned Palestinian national leader, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, remained on hunger strike on October 19, 2011 even as he was hospitalized, and sent congratulations to the prisoners liberated as part of the prisoner swap agreement. Due to the hunger strikers' tenacity and resilience, the prisoners' leadership inside the prisons has achieved a victory in its hunger strike including an end to the use of isolation and solitary confinement; Sa'adat's strike is continuing in order to ensure that victory is fully implemented.

Sa'adat was moved to Ramleh prison hospital after 20 days of hunger strike, on October 16. He has now been on hunger strike for 23 days, has lost well over 10 kilos (22 pounds), and has been experiencing serious health problems, including fainting and vomiting yellow bile, after Israeli Prison Administration officials refused to allow him salt, which, along with water, were the only items he would consume during his hunger strike.

At this time it is imperative that the eyes of the world remain on Sa'adat inside the prison hospital to ensure that he receives appropriate health and medical care and to ensure that the prisoners' victory - an end to isolation - is fully and completely implemented. It is important to emphasize that the occupation is in all ways responsible for the life and health of Ahmad Sa'adat and is seen as such internationally.

The following statement of the prisoners' committee and the leadership of the strike inside the prisons was issued on October 18:

An urgent statement issued by the leadership of the strike in the prisons of the occupation

Following the signing of an agreement in principle between the leadership of the strike in prison and the Israeli Prison Services, it was agreed to suspend the strike for three days. The agreement is as follows:
  1. To end the policy of isolation for all prisoners, and to return Sa'adat to the general population of the prison in Ramleh following his medical treatment;
  2. To restore the internal situation of prisoners to prior to the situation of Shalit [including prisoners' rights to communication, visits and education, won through years of prisoners' struggle]. In three days, if there is not a final agreement adopted by the prisoners, the striking prisoners will return to hunger strike;
The strike leadership called for continued Palestinian, Arab and international solidarity activities and tents of support throughout this period in order to support the prisoners and achieve their demands.

Sa'adat is not participating in the three day suspension in order to keep the prisoners' demands in the forefront and not allow the IPS to subvert, deny, or ignore the prisoners demands to which they conceded. As the prisoners' leadership stated, international solidarity remains critical to consolidate this victory!

Make it clear that you support the demands of striking Palestinian prisoners, which must be implemented now! Also make it clear that the eyes of the world remain on the life and health of Ahmad Sa'adat, for which the occupation is responsible. Send us reports of your protests at Israeli embassies and consulates.

3. Write to the International Committee of the Red Cross and other human rights organizations to exercise their responsibilities and act swiftly to demand that the prisoners' demands are implemented. Make it clear that Ahmad Sa'adat's life and health are gravely at risk and that you expect the ICRC to maintain vigilance over his medical care in prison.

Campaign congratulates Palestinian People on Prisoner Liberation & Sa'adat's statement on the prisoner exchange

The Campaign to Free Ahmad Sa'adat expresses its deepest congratulations to the Palestinian people, the liberated prisoners, their families, and all people committed to freedom and justice in the world upon the occasion of the liberation of the first stage of prisoners in the prisoner exchange deal on October 18, 2011. The prisoners' liberation returns sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends and comrades to their homes, to their people, and to their struggle for liberation. We salute the endless steadfastness of the prisoners and pledge to dedicate ourselves even more to the day when the remaining over 5,000 prisoners leave the occupier's jails, liberated and free. This is a day of deep joy and great celebration. It is a day of return and release, and promises a future of many days of return and liberation to come - of the homecoming of prisoners, the homecoming of refugees, and the victory of steadfastness and resistance against occupation, colonization and oppression.

Ahmad Sa'adat issued congratulations to the liberated prisoners and the Palestinian people from his hospital bed in Ramleh prison. A lawyer from Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association met with him in the hospital and conveyed his message:

"Congratulations to the Palestinian people for the completion and signing of the prisoner exchange deal, which comes as a fruit of resistance and steadfastness. Congratulations to all of the prisoners, men and women, and their families, who are liberated by this agreement." He said that the liberated prisoners deserve a free life with their families, and praised the efforts of the resistance factions to ensure the prisoners' liberation.

"This achievement confirms that the way to free the prisoners, liberate our homeland, and achieve all of the goals of our people is the path of resistance. The resistance of the Palestinian revolution is today - and has been for many years - the primary mechanism for any achievement. We are not in the final battle by any means - there is a long struggle to continue to achieve the goals of our people. We will continue in this epic struggle for freedom, with steadfastness, resilience, and the sacrifices, will, and struggle of our people and all progressive forces in the world."

Third Week of Hunger Strike - Action Grows as Sa'adat's Health in Jeopardy

Palestinian prisoners have entered their third week of hunger strike. After two weeks of hunger strike, physical symptoms become increasingly severe and prisoners' lives and health are increasingly at risk. As prisoners have put their lives and bodies on the line to defend the rights of themselves and their people, international support and solidarity is continually escalating and much-needed.

The health of Ahmad Sa'adat, General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestinian national leader who has been in isolation for two and one-half years and the center of the demand for an end to isolation, is increasingly at risk. Two lawyers visited Sa'adat on October 7 and October 9, and reported that he was fainting and vomiting - a direct consequence of the Israeli Prison Service's confiscation of salt from prisoners. He has already lost over 7 kilos on the hunger strike. Nevertheless, no independent doctors or medical professionals have been permitted to examine Sa'adat.

Despite his own health crisis, when asked about the duration of the strike, Sa'adat responded: "We are going to continue. We will not accept these degrading conditions. Either we live in dignity or we die with our heads high."

As of October 9, 300 prisoners were participating in a complete open ended hunger strike and 3000 in a partial hunger strike. Additional prisoners have been joining the strike on a daily basis - on October 10 and 11, over 1500 prisoners at Nafha, Ramon, Eshel, Asqelan, and Gilboa prisons have joined in.

Hunger strike tents continue to grow in cities throughout Palestine - in Ramallah, Qalqilya, Nablus, Gaza, Salfit, Tulkarem, Nazareth, Haifa. Palestinian activists have gone on solidarity hunger strike and engaged in ongoing mobilizations throughout Palestinian cities. In Gaza, three international activists have joined in the solidarity hunger strikes. Demonstrations in front of Ofer and Asqelan prisons were organized by Palestinians in '48 Occupied Palestine. On October 12, 2011, a general strike is expected to close businesses, schools and offices throughout Palestinian cities for hours, to express mass popular support for the prisoners' struggle.

Negotiations to end the strike failed on Monday as Israeli prison authorities continue to disregard Palestinian prisoners' rights. Prisoners have been repeatedly denied lawyers' visits in several prisons. Prisoners have been increasingly denied salt or their salt confiscated - a potentially deadly action for Sa'adat and other hunger strikers.

Abdel Latif Gheith, Chair of the Board of Directors of Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, was today slammed with a six-month ban on entry into the West Bank (as defined by Israel.) Gheith is a resident of East Jerusalem and was called to al-Moskobiyeh interrogation center in Jerusalem to order him arbitrarily forbidden from entering the West Bank, a severe violation of his right to freedom of movement and obvious retaliation for his work in support of the prisoners' hunger strike.

Israeli court extend isolation of Saadat for 6 months

RAMALLAH, (PIC)– The Israeli court in Beer Sheba prison decided to extend the isolation of Ahmed Saadat, the secretary general of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine, for six more months ending 3/11/2011.
Saadat affirmed during the hearing his boycott of the Israeli court in its capacity as a tool in the hands of occupation that works for implementing its political and security orders.
The ruling proved Israel’s continued policy of isolating Palestinian leaders held in its jails. Saadat has been in solitary confinement for 700 days.

Palestinian MP Ahmad Sa'adat passes 500 days in solitary confinement Ahmad Sa'adat has now spent more than 500 days in solitary confinement under the most inhumane conditions.
The International Campaign for the Release of Kidnapped Palestinian Legislators today issued a press statement concerning the continued detention of the Palestinian leader and legislator Ahmad Sa'adat by Israel. Mr. Sa'adat, who is the Secretary-General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), has now spent more than 500 days in solitary confinement under the most inhumane conditions. Israel's kidnap and detention of parliamentarians from the Occupied Palestinian Territories, said the Campaign, is intended to break their will and steadfastness. All of Israel's desperate measures have so far failed miserably before the resolute determination of the MPs.

The Campaign called on parliamentarians and their institutions around the world, especially the International Union of Parliamentarians, the European Parliament, the parliament of the Euro-Mediterranean basin, the Union of Arab Parliamentarians and those of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), to show solidarity with their Palestinian counterparts jailed by the Israeli occupation authorities.

Ahmad Sa'adat, General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, is one of nearly 10,000 Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli jails. These political prisoners, men, women and children, are activists, organizers and political leaders of the Palestinian people.
Sa'adat was sentenced to 30 years in the occupation prisons on December 25, 2008. On March 18, 2009, Sa'adat was moved into isolation at Asqelan prison, facing serious medical consequences. In June 2009, Sa'adat engaged in a nine-day hunger strike against his isolation. On August 10, 2009, Sa'adat was moved from the isolation cells at Asqelan to the isolation unit at Ramon prison in the Naqab desert. Sa'adat's isolation has since been extended repeatedly.
Sa'adat, with five other Palestinian prisoners, was kidnapped by the Israeli military on March 14, 2006 after a siege upon the prison in Jericho, where he was being held under a U.S. and British guard at a Palestinian Authority prison.
This is a campaign of human rights activists and concerned people from around the world, coming together to address the travesty of justice taking place, and calling for justice and freedom for Ahmad Sa'adat and all Palestinian political prisoners.
We are asking you now to join us in calling upon international human rights organizations to make clear statements about and prioritize this case. Ahmad Sa'adat is a prisoner of conscience, subject to the illegitimate military courts of an illegal military occupation. Indeed, the "security-related charges" against him, such as they are, embody political persecution and targeting for repression due to political activity, including such charges as membership in a forbidden organization (the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, of which he is General Secretary), holding a post in a forbidden organization, and incitement - for a speech delivered after the murder of Abu Ali Mustafa, the previous General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, by the Israeli military, as he worked in his office.

These include 36 members of the Palestinian Legislative Council elected in 2006 and 3 government ministers, including Sa'adat and Marwan Barghouti, prominent Palestinian leader. Abdelaziz Dweik, chair of the PLC, was recently released after three years in prison.

The Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement on July 18, 2010, calling for the broadest expression of solidarity and support for Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the PFLP, in mid-October 2010, when his continued isolation in the jails of the occupation will again come before the court.

The Front's statement said that Comrade Sa'adat has spent over a year and a half in isolation, while the Prisons Service and Zionist security services have declared him an ongoing 'security threat', justifying his continuing isolation away from his fellow prisoners, the continued restriction of his family visits and deprivation of access to news and media, books, and information. The PFLP said that all seventeen Palestinian prisoners suffering from isolation are at risk due to the brutality and cruelty of the Prisons Service, and urged widespread support against the use of isolation targeting Palestinian prisoners.

The PFLP called for a day of action to be a day of struggle and solidarity against isolation and in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners, with Comrade Sa'adat at the forefront. It called upon all progressive forces, all Palestinian and Arab parties and liberation movements, and all friends of the Front and the Palestinian people in the world to organize events, media activities and political solidarity actions in support of Comrade Sa'adat, calling for the freedom of Palestinian prisoners, and exposing the horror of isolation. It further called upon all branches of the Front and its supporters in Palestine and outside to regard the day of Comrade Sa'adat's hearing as a day for mobilization and popular solidarity with the prisoners' movement.

Furthermore, the Political Bureau statement demanded that international human rights authorities and in particular, the United Nations and its bodies, including its Secretary-General, to assume their responsibilities to protect Palestinian prisoners and cease their willful blindness to the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the prisoners.

To the US Social Forum:

I greet you from inside the walls of the prisons of the occupation, with the voice of thousands of Palestinian and Arab political prisoners. On behalf of the Palestinian prisoners' movement, the Palestinian national movement, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, I carry our salutes to the US Social Forum, this coming together of movements of oppressed peoples to organize and stand together against racism, colonialism, oppression and imperialism.

The Palestinian struggle for national liberation is part and parcel of the international movement of peoples for national liberation, international racial and economic justice, and an end to occupation, colonialism and imperialism. We salute all of the oppressed groups, nations and communities who have come together to build this social forum, including our sisters and brothers in the Palestinian and Arab community in the US and the indigenous peoples of the Americas on whose land the US empire of today was built, and who have remained a constant presence of resistance for over 400 years.

As we struggle to end apartheid, racism and occupation in Palestine, we recognize that we face not only the enemy immediately before us - Israel - but the full force and muscle of the U.S. government behind it. We view the US Social Forum as an expression of the popular movements inside the United States, working inside the empire to achieve justice for all, and join our hands in solidarity with yours. Our struggle is your struggle, and your struggle is ours.

The power of the U.S. empire in a unipolar world is being shaken by resistance and popular movements, from those inside the U.S., to the rising strength of the Left in Latin America, in Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua and elsewhere, to the development of alternative and regional powers around the world who are forming a strong counterweight to the empire. It is a necessity that the US empire and the unipolar world upon which it thrives is upended, and we greet the USSF's commitment that "another U.S. is necessary" with resounding agreement and solidarity.

A global front of the Left, of popular movements, of those who struggle for liberation and against imperialism and oppression, is necessary today, and the US Social Forum - and the entire Social Forum movement - is integral in building that global Left Front.

As you know, our struggle in Palestine is deeply linked to the struggle in the United States. There are two camps - the camp of empire and its allies, headed by the U.S. and Israel and, in our region, the complicit Arab regimes, and the camp of resistance. We see you as part of the resistance camp. The U.S. government is responsible for the Israeli crimes against our people - the thousands of political prisoners behind bars, the millions of refugees prohibited from returning home, the ethnic cleansing and home demolitions, the ongoing occupation, the apartheid wall tearing through our land, the apartheid and entrenched racism. For over 62 years, the U.S. government has been the sponsor of the racist Israeli state.

Today it is more critical than ever that you escalate your campaigns in solidarity with Palestine, that you internationally isolate Israel and all of its products, that you make it clear that the people of the United States stand alongside the people of Palestine to achieve our full national and human rights - to self determination, return for our refugees, an end to occupation, and national liberation.

We have heard news recently of the massacre of the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza, and that the seas have carried a great message of courage and shouldered a great burden of blood; that the prisons that hold our prisoners of freedom have held the prisoners of freedom of the world; and that the international movement for justice has new martyrs who will inspire us all to struggle in their path of courage, strength, indomitable solidarity and commitment to justice in the face of brutal oppression. Their example is an example to us all, and the Flotilla martyrs, prisoners, organizers and participants are part of the long line of heroes of our Palestinian people's struggle, and all of our global people's struggles for justice and liberation.

Towards a global left front - for socialism, equality, justice and liberation!

March 14, 2008 is the second anniversary of the siege on
Jericho prison and the kidnapping of Ahmad Sa'adat and
his comrades by the Israeli occupation army. On this
date in 2006, the Israeli army laid siege for twelve
hours to the Palestinian prison at Jericho holding
six political prisoners. Israeli bulldozers and tanks
attacked the prison while the Israeli military issued
threats of assassination against the prisoners. This
military assault caused the death of two Palestinians,
the injury of twenty-three more, and the abduction of
Ahmad Sa'adat and five other political prisoners from
Jericho to Zionist prisons.

With his abduction, Sa'adat joined over 11,000
Palestinian political prisoners held in the depths of
the prisons of the occupation, including many Palestinian
national leaders and elected representatives.

For over four years, these men had been held in the
Palestinian Authority prison at Jericho, under U.S.
and British guards. Immediately prior to the Israeli
assault on the prison, these U.S. and British guards
abandoned their posts, clearing the way for the
military attack. The U.S. State Department blamed
Palestinians for the siege, stating that the
democratically-elected Palestinian Legislative
Council leadership had indicated its willingness to
release these illegally-held political prisoners.
Said Sa'adat in a letter to the Palestinian people
after his abduction, "The Quartet
[US, EU, Russia and UN] provide a cover for occupation.
What happened in Jericho Prison has made the
British and US governments an integral part of
the conflict and forever buried any illusions in
their neutrality."

Since his abduction - a blatant violation of Palestinian
sovereignty - Sa'adat's trial has been repeatedly
postponed and delayed. Israeli Attorney General
Menachem Mazuz admitted shortly following
the abduction that there was insufficient evidence
to indict Sa'adat in the assassination of extreme
racist Israeli minister Rehavam Ze'evi in 2001, an
act of retaliation for the August 2001 Israeli murder
of PFLP General Secretary Abu Ali Mustafa. Instead,
Sa'adat was indicted on a wide array of political charges
in a hearing on March 28, 2006 at Ofer Military
Base in Ramallah.

Sa'adat has consistently and repeatedly refused to
recognize the legitimacy of the illegitimate court; his
lawyers have petitioned for the charges to be dropped,
as they are clearly politically motivated and the court
itself is illegitmate. His trial has been repeatedly
postponed, from May 2006, to September 2006,
to January 2007, and now through March 2008.
With each hearing, Sa'adat's courageous refusal to
recognize in any way the illegitimate court - refusing
to stand for the military judges, issuing statements
exposing this mockery of justice, and refusing to deal
with the military courts or interrogators - stand in clear
contrast to the system of occupation and oppression
represented by the military courts, exposing its
bankruptcy and illegitimacy.

Sa'adat's abduction made clear the full participation of the
U.S. and British governments and their full complicity
in the crimes of the occupation against the Palestinian
people. Indeed, his case is a paradigmatic example of
the continuous war waged upon the Palestinian resistance,
using any and all mechanisms available on an international
level to repress the struggle of the Palestinian people for
liberation.

On this anniversary, it is vital that we act to free Ahmad
Sa'adat and all Palestinian political prisoners, with

Statement for liberation of Ahmad Saadat

Dear comrades,

despite all aggression and massacres, imperialism has not managed to extinguish the resistance fire in the Middle East. The imperialist, zionist and fascist attacks and occupations could not end neither the struggle of the Palestinian people nor the resistance in Iraq or the struggle in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. Despite all attacks, the working class' and labourers' growing longing for liberation remains inevitable. The attacks, which aim at destroying the working class' and labourers' hope for liberation and the imprisonment of revolutionaries and communists will not stop the struggle for national and social liberation.

Comrade Ahmad Saadat, general secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), has been imprisoned since 1st May 2002 and was kidnapped on 15 March 2006 together with 4 of his comrades from Jericho prison due to a brutal attack of Israel. He was taken to Israel to be sentenced by a military court. Israel, that devilishly continues with attacks and massacres on the Palestinian people and that is an aggressive servant of the imperialist USA in the region, can not sentence the Palestinian liberation fighters. Ahmad Saadat has devoted his life to the liberation struggle of the Palestinian people and is one of the revolutionary leaders of Palestine. By sentencing Ahmad Saadat, the Zionist state of Israel wants to sentence the struggle of the Palestinian nation, working class and labourers. However, it is Israel and its supporters that must be sentenced in fact and that will definitely render account for the attacks and massacres.

We appreciate the heroic resistance of the befriended revolutionary organisations and the Palestinian people against the Zionist barbarism and occupation and fight for the international support of these kinds of resistance.

Our party emphasizes once again to be in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people, with the PFLP and its general secretary Ahmad Saadat as we have been until now. We wish comrade Ahmad Saadat all the best in his struggle.
