Israel using peace negotiation as a smokescreen for 'crimes'

The Islamic Jihad movement urged an end to the negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel, saying that Israel is using the talks to cover for "crimes and violations" in Jerusalem.

Islamic Jihad spokesperson Walid Hallas told Ma'an that is also taking advantage of the Palestinian internal political crisis to consolidate control over Jerusalem.

Of particular concern for Islamic Jihad is the Al-Aqsa Mosque itself. The movement says Israel is "plotting against" the Mosque.

Yet he said the implementation of any designs on the mosque would "unite the hearts of all Muslims" around the Palestinian cause. The Palestinian people, he said, Palestinians would not "stand idly by," should any harm come to the mosque.

The mosque is the third holiest site in Islam.
