At the assembly of the Socialist Party (SP) held on 2 June 2012, the Assembly noted that “international child rights treaties should be respected and children all over the world deserve humane treatment in which there is no place for abuse, humiliation, threats or the use of solitary confinement,” and decided as follows:
- The actions of Gate48, A Different Jewish Voice, Defence for Children International, Palestine Link and others surrounding Palestinian children in Israeli detention should be vigorously supported inside and outside parliament; and
- The Socialist Party calls on the Dutch government to speak out firmly against the practice of detaining children in solitary confinement in its contacts with Israel, and to call for a total ban of the practice.
At the assembly of the GreenLeft Party held on 30 June 2012, the Assembly noted that the Fourth Geneva Convention explicitly prohibits the transfer of prisoners out of occupied territory. The Assembly also noted that the outgoing Dutch Ministers of Foreign Affairs (Rosenthal) and Economic Affairs (Verhagen) ignored both Palestinian and Israeli human rights organisations during their recent visit to the region in June. The Assembly decided as follows:
- To act on the issue of Palestinian children in Israeli captivity both in and outside the Dutch and European parliaments; and
- The GreenLeft Party calls on the Dutch government to speak out against the arrest and detention of Palestinian children in its contacts with Israel.
