Thanksgiving Reflections on the Meaning of Concentration Camp Gaza
We're about ready to head for our annual Thanksgiving Day feast like many Americans this week. We'll enjoy our favorite foods and the comfort of family and give thanks for our good fortune. In Palestine, though, millions of people face a bleak prospect of hunger, dirty water, no medicines to sustain life and lack of fuel for electric generation. The Irish Sun reports: In what the UN has described as collective punishment, the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip continues. Notwithstanding 56% of the 1.5 million Gazan population consists of children, Israel has shut down access to the region refusing to allow desperately needed food trucks to reach their destination. UN food agencies in Gaza that have had their food supply cut by the Israeli blockade say they are facing a "humanitarian catastrophe."

Photo essay: A dark night in Gaza

On Saturday, 22 November, I toured Gaza City and authenticated the bleak reality of people through my camera. The dark streets further demonstrating the physical and spiritual fatigue experienced by Palestinians, now enduring the 18th month of Israel's siege while the world remains indifferent to their suffering. Sameh Habeeb's photographs tell a story of Gazans living without power.

Journalists make news over Gaza
Once again access to the Gaza Strip is in the news. This time, perhaps a little self-servingly, because foreign journalists are being denied access to Gaza by Israeli authorities. The Foreign Press Association, which represents the collective interests of the international media covering the news in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, has filed a law suit with the Supreme Court demanding Israel lifts its ban on journalists entering Gaza. It has been in force for nearly three weeks, since violence flared with Israeli army raids and air strikes and Palestinian "Kassam" rocket fire from the coastal enclave.

Lebanon Condemns Gaza Blockade as Terrorism

While the Israeli blockade on Gaza was ongoing amid a real humanitarian "catastrophe," the international community was, as usual, preoccupied with "more important" issues, forgetting, or better, pretending to forget its duties in the Palestinian occupied territories, allowing the Zionist criminal to go further in its spiteful conduct. Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri denounced on Tuesday the Israeli continuous assaults against the Palestinian people through the policies of siege, constraint, closure, aggression, until putting all the Gaza strip at the edge of a real humanitarian catastrophe.

Fireworks Light Up Dubai as Gaza Sleeps in Darkness
But before you start wondering whether you've wandered onto the wrong site or are reading an article from The Insider, rest assured-this descriptive introduction does have a point! I don't believe I was the only person to read about the party and its copious expense without thinking that the timing of the whole event was in very poor taste. As I read a description of the elaborate fireworks display, I couldn't help but consider the 1.5 million Palestinians living in darkness in Gaza, courtesy of an Israeli blockade on food, fuel and medical supplies-20 days and counting so far. Meanwhile, the world is sinking deeper into a global financial crisis which Dubai seems to be in denial of; millions of people have and will lose their jobs; and military and humanitarian crises are still ongoing in places like Darfur, Iraq, DR Congo and Zimbabwe. Not to mention the 2,000 or so flights to Dubai for the A-list celebrities that probably chipped off a little more from our melting polar icecaps. Still, there was no evidence of concern as tycoons and celebrities streamed into Dubai for what was reportedly the world's most expensive private party. In true capitalist style, the rich have once again found a way to 'party as the world burns'.

Meshaal Rejects Abbas' Early Elections "Threat"
Hamas Leader Khaled Mashaal called Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' call for early parliamentary elections a violation of Palestinian law. Mashaal, dismissed Abbas' threat to hold simultaneous elections for president and parliament early next year, unless Hamas begins reconciliation talks. Hamas and Fatah were supposed to meet in Cairo for a round of Egyptian-mediated talks, but they were canceled after Hamas announced its intention to boycott further talks in protest to Fatah's refusal to release 400 members imprisoned by the PA in the West Bank. Hamas says that the Palestinian President's term expires January 9. The Resistance movement argues that Abbas can call for presidential elections then, but not parliament elections to replace the democratically elected Hamas-dominated legislature.

Ahmad Hillis fled Gaza in August 2008 through the Israeli border. Hillis and some 200 other members of his family fled Gaza following a gun battle with Hamas forces. Israeli forces shot him twice, then arrest him upon his arrival in Israel. Hillis was ultimately released to Jericho along with family members who also left Gaza.

Without unity, Palestinians have no way to fend off Israeli war crimes
No sane person can look at the tragedy unfolding in the Gaza Strip and not mourn the passing of Palestinian unity. At a time when a coherent message demanding statehood might help create public pressure for Western countries to finally stop allowing Israel to break international law, the Palestinian people have been reduced to the point where the United Nations is begging on their behalf for permission to bring food into the besieged enclave. Zero progress has been made on liberating Palestine Hamas' way, which is to fire ineffective rockets that only give the Israelis a pretext to maintain their attacks and starve children. In addition, even Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah has now acknowledged that his way-that of engaging in negotiations with the occupier-has also achieved nothing after a whole year of talks initiated by the Annapolis summit.

Bush Admin Revising Iraq War History On White House Website

Before invading Iraq in 2003, the Bush administration mounted a significant diplomatic offensive to rally international support, and officials at the White House, Pentagon and State Department went to great lengths to trumpet those nations that joined what they termed "the coalition of the willing." But historians researching those early alliance-building efforts say they are troubled by what seem to be deletions of and alterations to the early official lists of nations that supported the war effort. The lists were posted on the White House Web site.

Colin Powell for Middle East Envoy--Dennis Ross for US Ambassador to Israel

Recently, Politico issued a roster of top policy and political hands who would be in line for key positions in an Obama government.
At the time, I thought it very odd that Clinton Middle East coordinator Dennis Ross was not on the list. Ross was rumored to be one of the four competing to be national security adviser to Barack Obama--along with James Steinberg, Susan Rice, and Gregory Craig.
Now we know that General Jim Jones will be National Security Adviser. Former Warren Christopher aide Tom Donilon will probably be his deputy. Jim Steinberg will be Deputy at Hillary Clinton's Department of State, and Susan Rice will be the second Ambassador to the United Nations to follow the destructive tenure of the recess-appointed John Bolton.
