Dreaming In Palestine Film Workshop and Festival

Children at Lajee Center have just completed three short films about their lives and dreams. The films range in style and content from music video to documentary and drama. One film called "We want a place to Play," recounts the story of one of the filmmakers, whose dream is to become a famous footballer but he cannot practice his hobby in the narrow streets of the Refugee Camp where he lives. Another film, "Our Key," combines the story of the Nakba of 1948 with the Right to Return created by the children themselves.

Children discussed how they learned storytelling, video-making, and editing skills. One of the girls said, "We liked to be involved in such workshops to tell other people around the world what Palestinians think and feel."

The young volunteers from Lajee were hard working with the youth. One of the youth said, "Our facilitator was the best. He used to discuss the story with us and we wrote the story of the film together."

Support was received from the Hoping Foundation in the UK, and Voices Beyond Walls.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the project and also took great pride in their work producing technically competent but also deeply touching and moving short films.

The films were premiered at the illustrious Ramallah Cultural Palace on August 23rd alongside films from other centres across the West Bank that were also part of this project with Voices Beyond Walls. It was great to see our new films on the big screen but also to share in the experiences of other young refugees who were also speaking out through their youthful creativity.

Lajee would like to thank everybody at 'Voices Beyond Walls', 'Hoping Foundation' and 'MCC' for their help and support to realise this project
