GAZA STRIP,
Arab countries have kept mum over Israeli
occupying regime's atrocities in the Palestinian
territories and complete blockade of the
Gaza Strip for the past week, a Palestinian
official complained.
Anwar Raja, an official with the Popular
Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General
Command (PFLP-GC) told Alalam Saturday,
even the weak Arab reaction against
Zionist crimes in the coastal strip was
aimed to restore their own shattered
image among their sympathetic nations,
he said without specifying any country.
Stressing the recent Zionist measures
in Gaza were unprecedented in the history
of the occupied territories, Raja said Arabs
should not be satisfied with statements
condemning the atrocities by illegal
regime of Israel.
"The Zionist regime has locked up
1.7 million people of the Gaza Strip and
denies them essential supplies, but Arab
regimes merely condemned the heinous
act to vent their nations' wrath over their
indifference", he said.
Gaza has been completely shut to the
outside world after the Zionist regime
decided to tighten the noose around
the strip last week.
"Fellow Arab people will never forget the
red-carpet treatment of their rulers for
the no. 1 war criminal US President George
W Bush, who paved the way for Zionist
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to
commit more crimes," said the
Palestinian official, referring to Bush'
Mideast trip to Arab ally countries last month.
He said not only Gaza but the entire Arab
nations were under the Zionist siege.
"Today, the Arab citizens' dignity is at
stake in each and every Arab country,
and the circumstances require measures
beyond burning flags and officials in effigy",
the official warned.
Raja also had barbed words for the Palestinian
Authority, presided over by Mahmud Abbas,
for failing to take robust measures to
tackle the crisis.
Meanwhile, the PLFP-GC officials criticized
media coverage of Gaza lockdown, saying they
focused attention on food shortage in the besieged
area, while "Gaza was under a politically-charged
siege by the Israeli regime to win more concessions".
He also defended rocket attacks by Palestinian
resistance fighters and said Palestinian
activists "do not possess state-of-the-art weaponry,
while the Zionists do, and the home-made
al-Qassam rockets are the only ammunitions
they own for self-defense."
He lashed out at Mahmud Abbas for urging
resistance fighters to stop rocket attacks
on southern towns in the occupied territories.
