A friend's straight-forward indictment of Haiti's true background plight, of misery and oppression:

The only disaster that has hit Haiti is the un-natural disaster of rabid, merciless US imperialism. It is US imperialism and its neo-liberal policies that is killing Haitians today and every day, while CNN tells us about the 'generosity' of the white man. Cuba has been helping actively Haiti since a long time. It maintained over 400 medical personnel long before this crisis.

I have lived for a time in Haiti in the late 90's so I speak with some personal knowledge. I was there during the drunkard, idiot Preval's first administration before the re-election of Aristide and his subsequent kidnapping and removal by the schemes of US-armed, US-paid, US-ordered Haitian goons and the complicity/coordination of Canada & France. The key to the catastrophe are not the natural situations such as earthquakes and hurricanes which are serious unto themselves but the systematic destruction of the agricultural sector by the US that has created/fed systematic poverty, resulting in dislocation, eco-degradation and a situation in which Haitians cannot cope with hardly anything and are forced to eat cookies literally made of dirt.

I am totally devastated/heart-broken by what is taking place in Haiti. The people of Haiti are noble and do not deserve this. The biggest curse is that which is imposed by its US slave Masters who have not given this place peace since classic slavery was overthrown and short-lived independence hard-won. They have created, co-opted and nurtured a corrupt, complicit elite that has participated in the rape and plunder against its own people. The only interest the US has today in Haiti (after end of Cold-War) is to keep the Haitians just fed enough to prevent them from launching another refugee boat people crisis that lands them on the shores of the region and especially on the shores of Florida. Haitians are not allowed the option of 'leaving' just as the US elite forcibly reserved for the poor of New Orleans. The US elite was happy to see its largely poor, blacks migrate from New Orleans and disappear in the inner cities of America. The empire's selected Nobel-Peace-Prize-Winning-Warmonger-In-Chief Bushama in blackface may even take up an old, tried Clinton trick to allow Aristide (stuck in exile in South Africa), which the empire under the Republicans removed twice, to return as a distraction.

I hope Aristide makes it back as he can galvanize hope and give a voice to the majority who support Lavalas, who like Hamas is denied. Lavalas that represents the majority is not allowed to event contest elections by the empire and by this empire's stooges. The Haitians are condemned to stay hungry, to stay poor/dependent, as a reserve of slave labour, as a hostage market of 10M. They will bury their dead and soon go back to suffering in silence. For now, for every dollar going in (that represents socialized dollars paid by the US Treasury/people, that in fact goes to provide US corporate profit) there are 10$ leaving Haiti through its elite, to Miami, Panama, Montreal, Paris, Santo Domingo and the rest of the region. They will in time come back and buy up whatever they don't own for a song. In the meantime US fundamentalist missionaries, members of the NGO industry, paedophiles and other pretend do-gooders are having the run of the place while taking advantage of this photo-op. Just put on a huge stiff tariff on US Rice Corp and give subsidies to Haitian producers and Haitian consumers to buy national produced rice and this will do more to alleviate the suffering than all this current bordello/show. The same to sugar, coffee. Give people charcoal briquettes and pay them to plant trees and protect the treas. These briquettes could be made as a residue from bagasse (the left-over of sugar cane and add flavouring that mimics and improves over wood charcoal).

Reverse all neo-liberal tariff reduction that allows dumping of subsidized foreign-made goods and promote/subsidies to national production. If the Haitians are eating dirt, this will at least stop the hunger. All the Haitians need is a chance to live, which the Empire has denied them since Napoleon and President Wilson. The next stage will show us the goons/mobsters including the mayor of Port-au-Prince making big money from the necessary disposal of corpses while paying pennies to the slave labour that will do it. I foresee epidemic as more than half the children are unvaccinated. The vicious (sand-flies) tiny mosquitoes at night are a perfect vehicle for spreading disease. I believe more than those that died from the earthquake will die from disease. I am so disturbed that I choose to not write about Haiti for some time as I watch this hell unfold. ~SN

Fight hypocricy and Help Haiti and Gaza

Note: We are back in Palestine now after a successful trip to Italy and Jordan. Please do come visit us in the canton/ghetto of Bethlehem, which despite its difficulties remains the birthplace of Jesus.Journalists struggle to describe the scenes of misery, death, and despair in language befitting of its tragedy in Haiti. Over 100 countries mobilized for aid. Even Israel has mobilized its usual contingent of Israeli doctors and the mass Zionist media to show how humanitarian it can be (but tiny Qatar sent far more actual aid). What is little discussed is that the natural disaster would have claimed far fewer lives had Haiti been allowed to develop without Western Interference over the past few decades. There is a tragic history that stretches from the slave rebellion against the French "owners" to the US direct occupation of Haiti 1915 to 1934, to the US support for puppet dictators, to the latest 2004 coup engineered by elements in the neoconservative movement under the Presidency of George Bush. The last government installed was and continues to be corrupt, inept, and unaccountable. I was shocked that the "President of Haiti" could not even put sentences together let alone deal with disasters. It is no surprise that many people in Haiti have come to believe that anarchy is better. Meanwhile, Western companies, whose motto is always maximum profits/minimum costs, strip billions worth of Haitian natural resources.

Gaza was a calamity of incredible proportion. 1.5 million people in a small strip of largely desert land, most of them refugees or displaced people. Over a period of three weeks, Israeli shelling destroyed over 10,000 homes, schools, hospitals, food warehouses, and shops. Over 400 children and hundreds of other civilians were massacred. This man-made disaster was accomplished with the blessing of the US and its direct support (military equipment, shielding Israel from International law etc). But our spirit will not be broken just like the spirit of Haiti will not be broken (see video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lU5Wi2jhnW0 )

Hardly any Western reporters bothered to cover the story of the man-made tragedy in Gaza. If they did mention it, it was in passing while assigning blame to Hamas for the home made projectiles the people of Gaza tried to produce in response to the incessant slaughter. More importantly, no flotillas of emergency aid were to arrive in Gaza from any governmental sources. Only a few activists managed to bring food and medicines in spite of official governments positions. In fact the siege intensified over Gaza and one year later, there has been no or very little reconstruction.

The US foreign policy, hijacked by a group of wealthy and powerful individuals utilizing lobbyists as their tools and brainwashing some individuals to think it is "good for the Jews" have ensured hypocrisy. It is hypocrisy to name a fund for helping (Bush Clinton Haiti Fund) run by the two war criminals that engineered and/or supported calamities in places like Iraq (1 million killed), Gaza, Afghanistan, Sudan and elsewhere. It is hypocrisy to send Hilary Clinton who supported the slaughter in Gaza for photo opportunities in Haiti. It s hypocrisy to pressure the puppet regime in Egypt to erect a wall to prevent Gaza population from importing foods and medicine while spending our taxpayer money for USAID with stings attached (most to guide countries to create policies of oppression in the guise of humanitarian aid) AND let corporations gain billions from exploitation of those same countries (e.g. Haliburton, Mobil, Motorolla). A colleague wrote in Arabic that Jamal Abdel Nasser as a person of high stature built the Aswan high Dam while Mubarak is building the metal underground low dam!

US interests do not lie in creating more hypocrisy Is it not time to thoroughly reevaluate the calamitous policies that led us to this? These policies, while profiting a few individuals in positions of power (Corporate and Zionist lobbies*), directly harm average citizens in Haiti, the US, Israel/Palestine and elsewhere. It was hoped that the year 2000 would usher in a new era of peace and prosperity on humanity. Is it not time to investigate why Latin America, Asia and much of Europe is moving in that direction while the US and Israeli policies have created mayhem and destruction? Is it not time for the events of September 11, 2001 to receive full investigation instead of the cover-up in the report issued? Would we see 2010 as a year of change or would we wait for yet another calamity to expose more hypocrisy?

ACTION: 1) Donate to Haiti relief through the International Red Cross, UNICEF, Oxfam, or other non-governmental organizations

(see for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kv2JzWfD9r0 );

2) Act for Gaza (see for example this new good website http://www.gazaonmymind.org

* See the book Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins about the corporate elites. I think he downplays what the Zionist lobbies have done which sometimes even won over corporate interests like the military industries but he makes some very cogent observations from someone who was on the inside as an economic hitman (and ofcourse many of these corporations are run by ardent Zionists who like to have a strong Israel as an insurance policy in case they need to run away from Western Countries). Here are videos of a lecture by Perkins:

To Canada's GG, daughter of Haiti

Jean St.-Vil

Jean St-VillOnè Governor General Michaelle Jean:

This is an urgent plea to you, as Governor General of Canada, daughter of Haiti, once a citizen of France who is married to well-known and respected French intellectual filmmaker Jean-Daniel Lafond.

Both of you, dear compatriots, must immediately use your power and skills to convince French President Nicolas Sarkozy of the urgent necessity for the Republic of France to return the $40 Billion (U.S) it has ransomed at gun point from the Republic of Haiti between 1825 and 1947.

The amount of 90 million gold Francs was collected by the FRENCH STATE, in the name of the white French men and women as compensation for their claims of "lost property”. Said property being our great grandfathers and great- grandmothers who had survived 312 years of the most horrific crime against humanity ever recorded in human history – the MAAFA.

In order to make this payment successive Haitian governments had to take drastic measures like cutting down our forests, closing rural schools and borrowing money at exorbitant rates from the slavery-built powers of the time, like the United States of North America.

The $40 Billion (US) ransom must be returned directly to the HAITIAN STATE from which it was taken at gunpoint. This outrageous example of STATE SPONSORED armed robbery involves legal institutions that existed and still exist today.

Haiti needs to build the infrastructure it never had an opportunity to build.

To this effect we, justice conscious people of all races, creed and political persuasion are mobilizing restlessly until the Haitian People - through the legitimate representatives it has established on its own- receives what was stolen from it.

Not a cent of this ransom repayment must go to the horde of foreign-controlled organizations that are experts at collecting overhead in the name of the impoverished people of Haiti. While the condition of abject poverty which prevails for the Black People of Haiti since 1499, when our first ancestors landed on the island, continues to blow in our faces, those claiming to be "aiding" said people are the ones getting richer every day with the "aid" they are managing in our name.

A situation that our First Nations brothers and sisters understand all too well, whether it is in Nunavut, Australia or South Africa. The hypocrisy must end so that genuine human brotherhood and sisterhood can flourish.

This heavy burden is yours to carry my sister. We love you and encourage you to be inspired by the spirit of Sanite Belair, Defile and Marie Claire Heureuse Felicite Bonheur.

Fok nou tout mete devwa nou opwop! Se Dessalines k ap mande regleman!

Haiti, how Canada should help?

Yves Engler

Yves Engler

Below are 10 things Canada should do to help Haiti. To make sense of the list below, however, it’s necessary to mention some recent political context.

In February 2004 Canada, the US and France overthrew Haiti’s elected government, which ushered in a terrible wave of political repression and an ongoing UN occupation. Canadian and Haitian non-governmental organizations funded by Ottawa played an important role in destabilizing Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s government and justifying foreign military intervention to the North American public.

A sort of NGO laboratory, Haiti is a highly vulnerable society where NGOs have a great deal of influence.

By one estimate, Haiti has the most development NGOs of any country per capita and the vast majority of the country's social services are run by domestic or foreign NGOs.

In 2005 the Canadian International Development Agency admitted that, "supporting non-governmental actors contributed to the creation of parallel systems of service delivery. ... In Haiti's case, these actors [NGOs] were used as a way to circumvent the frustration of working with the [Aristide] government ... this contributed to the establishment of parallel systems of service delivery, eroding legitimacy, capacity and will of the state to deliver key services." CIDA further explained that, "emphasis on non-governmental actors as development partners also undermined efforts to strengthen good governance."

Over the past four days NGOs have been widely promoted as a source of relief for the recent tragedy. Considering the circumstances they are. But, at the same time, foreign funded NGOs have contributed to a process that has undermined Haitian governmental capacity, to the point where it has barely been able to respond to the recent catastrophe.

Here are 10 things Canada should do to help Haiti:

10. Focus relief efforts on the poorest neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince.

9. Stop deporting Haitians from Canada. Open our border to allow more immigrants from Haiti, especially family members of current Canadians.

8. Fund a new Haitian government disaster relief ministry to immediately start paying unemployed Haitians, much of the population, to clear up rubble.

7. Provide the Haitian government with money and expertise to strengthen building codes and government inspection processes to ensure all new construction meets safety standards that would mitigate any future disasters.

6. Provide funding for the Haitian government to set up a housing ministry that would be responsible for rebuilding destroyed neighborhoods. Make money and expertise available for the construction of apartments, commercial buildings and houses. It is critical that this involve Haitian architects and construction workers. If training is necessary provide it free of charge, in Haiti, so that the know-how and ability to train stays in the country.

5. Provide the Haitian government with the resources to create a forestry ministry to re-forest the countryside, which has lost almost all of its trees. This ministry could seek funds from around the world to pay poor Haitians to plant trees and reduce erosion in this once verdant country.

4. Insist Canadian companies in Haiti pay at least three times the minimum wage of $3 per day so that workers can afford to feed, clothe and house their families. $9 a day is hardly an extravagant wage and, with some prodding from Ottawa, Canadian corporations could set an example for other foreign investors.

3. Shift tens of millions of dollars worth of Canadian “aid” from training police and building prisons to funding human infrastructure programs that provide various levels of government with the expertise and resources to build decent transport, electrical capacity, public health, water and sewer systems.

2. Understand that the best aid empowers Haitians to control their own affairs. This largely means assisting various levels of Haitian governments to serve the population. Haitians have a right to expect public services from their government just as Canadians do. How would we like it if almost all our schools, medical services, public health, and social services were run by private, foreign charities?

1. Once this is all done get the heck out and let Haitians run their own country.

The Zionization of Disaster Relief

Didn’t know there was anything particularly Zionist about providing disaster relief? You learn something new every day. This is a story of exploiting the suffering of poor, defenseless Haitians on behalf of Israeli triumphalism.

A baby named Israel...who, if he reaches adulthood, would never be welcomed in Israel (IDF)

Sol Salbe translated an eye-opening column from Yediot by an Israeli doctor who was an integral member of all Israeli international disaster response teams until recently. Then he made the mistake of writing a mildly critical statement about Israeli disaster relief efforts. As a result, he was relieved of his obligation for further IDF service and further participation in the disaster relief program. The op ed is so revealing (and not yet available online in English) I’m going to quote large sections. An explanatory note–at Israel’s Haiti field hospital, they delivered what the Israeli PR flacks called “the first baby since the earthquake.” The medical staff urged the woman to name her baby “Israel” and she was only to eager to oblige. Another Israeli PR coup!

Public Relations instead of saving lives

Sending portable toilets to Haiti would have been a better option, but this does not provide good photo opportunities. Israeli missions to disaster areas in the past have shown that such activity was in vain.

Yoel Donchin

I received my final exemption from the army after I published an article which said that the State of Israel acts like the proverbial Boy Scout, who insists on doing a good deed daily and helping an old lady cross the road even against her will. How ungrateful of me to publish such a column when I had participated in almost all the rescue missions to overseas disaster areas! Suddenly I am no longer suitable to take part in such heroic endeavours. But in light of the experience I gained in such missions…we have wasted our effort.

Generally speaking, we start preparing for such a mission within hours of the announcement of a natural disaster. Most often the Israeli mission team is the first one to land in the area. Like those who climb Mount Everest, it plants its flag on the highest peak available, announcing to all and sundry that the site has been conquered. And in order to ensure that the public is aware of this sporting achievement, the mission is accompanied by media representatives, photographers, an IDF spokesman’s office squad and others.

I understood the purpose perfectly when the head of one of the delegations to a disaster zone was asked whether oxygen tanks and a number of doctors could be removed to make room for another TV network’s representatives with their equipment. (With unusual courage, the delegation head refused!)

The lesson learnt from the activities of those missions is that when there is a natural disaster, or when thousands of people are expelled from their homes by force, as happened in Kosovo, survivors may benefit from international assistance only if it responds to the region’s specific needs. Also assistance must be coordinated among the various aid agencies.

The competitive race to a disaster zone imposes a huge strain on the local health and administration authorities. Airports are clogged by transport planes unloading a lot of unnecessary but bulky equipment. Doctors and rescue organisations seek ways to utilise single carriageway roads and in fact they are a burden. The correct way to help is to send a small advance force to gauge the dimensions of the disaster…

Would they still call that child Israel?

Three components are crucial: shelter, water and food — these things are crucial in order to save the largest number of people. Water purification equipment, tents, basic food rations are needed. But they do lack the desired dramatic effect. If we went down that track we would miss out on seeing that child who was born with the assistance of our physicians. Most certainly, the excited mother wouldn’t give her child (who knows if he will ever reach a ripe old age?) the name Israel or that of the obstetrician or nurse. (Would he get citizenship because he was born in Israeli territory? There would be many opposed to that.) The drama is indeed classy, but its necessity is doubtful.

It being Israel, our current force contains a Kashrut supervisor, security personnel and more.

In the present disaster, which is of a more massive scale than anything we have encountered to date, the need is not so much for a field hospital but field, ie portable, toilets. There is more of a need for digging equipment to dig graves and sewage pipes.

A country which wants to provide humanitarian aid without concern for its media image should send whatever is required by the victims, and not whatever it wantsIt is much more media savvy to show an Israeli hospital, replete with stars of David and of course the dedicated doctors and nurses, dressed in their snazzy uniforms with an Israeli flag on the lapel. to deliver. But would the evening news show the commander of the Israeli mission at the compound with 500 chemical toilets? Unlikely.

…It is quite likely that financial assistance commensurate with Israel’s resources would be preferable to the enormous expense and complicated logistics involved in the maintenance of a medical unit in the field…

But apparently a minute of TV coverage is much more important…and in fact Israel is using disasters as [military] field training in rescue and medical care. After a fortnight, the mission will reportedly return to Israel. To be truly effective a field hospital needs to remain for two or three months, but that’s a condition that Israel cannot meet.

…It is only in the Israeli aid compound in Haiti that large signs carrying the donor country’s name hang for all to see.

Israel Helping Haiti or Helping Themselves?

Israel helping the people of Haiti. Here I thought Israel was just on the Israel re-branding tour. For those that don't know what that Is - Let me break it down to 2 points.

1. It's people on behalf of the state of Israel doing everything possible to try and make Israel look good so not only do the state of Israel get more money from various governments around the world but also have more people spending more money on goods coming out of Israel.

2. While Israel gets more of the people's tax revenues in places like the United States,Canada and else where though out the world without people complaining, the true aim of the Israel re-branding is that we all forget about Palestine and especially forget about the War crimes committed in Gaza and very simple forget about the last 60 years and more of injustice to the Palestinians.

So Israel helping the people of Haiti - there may be more to that concept then it seems. I woke up this morning and was reading a posting on Palestinian Mothers,

The mainstream Media would not speak of this! -

Accusations of Israeli IDF theft of organs of Haiti victims

Accusations of Israeli IDF theft of organs of Haiti victims
By Iqbal Tamimi

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot published an article today 20th January, 2010 about a warning by an American Citizen from Washington who accused the crew of the Israeli Defence Force in Haiti of stealing the organs of the victims and he said these acts of theft are aimed at for the purpose of sale.

These warnings came from a man called T – West on yutube, West said that the IDF are involved in the theft of the organs of the Haitians and that he wanted to warn the people of Haiti about stealing the organs of their family members for trade purposes.
In a telephone interview West said:

"I do not hate Israel, and I am not a politician and I am working in a non-profit organisation, but I saw what you have done in South Africa, and know that you were involved in the theft of organs of Palestinians in the past. The theft of body organs is not the policy of the IDF but a small number of the IDF are doing that"

West linked between his findings and the incidents of arresting a number of Jews in USA who were charges of trafficking in human organs.
