US 'does not accept legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity but has no choice but to go along with it

US says it is displeased with Levy Report

In official lip service a DC official says US 'does not accept legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity and says we oppose any effort to legalize settlement outposts'

WASHINGTON – The American Administration says it vehemently disagrees with the findings of the Levy Report, which states that the Israeli government must promote the legitimization of all West Bank settlements and outposts but cannot do nothing about it because most in the United States Government is either controlled by the Zionist Christian Right or The Israeli Lobby.

Speaking at a lip service only press briefing on Monday evening, State Department Spokesman Patrick Ventrell said that, "The US position on settlements is clear.

Obviously, we've seen the reports that an Israeli Government appointed panel has recommended legalizing dozens of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, but the world must know that we do not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity and we oppose any effort to legalize settlement outposts...We’re concerned about it, obviously."but will do nothing about it.

Washington is unlikely to pressure Israel to refrain from implementing the report's recommendations – but under International Law this is still a  situation that will categorically change the legal realities in the West Bank.

The lip service put out will have US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns discussing during his meetings in Israel this week in an attempt to back up his words.

Burns will accompany US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on her visit to the region, which will begin in Egypt as they will seek out what Egypt thinks, continue in Israel and will also see the US mission meet with top Palestinian officials in Ramallah that was not really elected by the Palestinian People.
