Egypt condemns Israel's demolition of Arab houses in East Jerusalem
CAIRO, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit Wednesday condemned Israel's move to demolish houses owned by Palestinians in East Jerusalem. Israel is racing against time to impose facts on the ground before proximity talks with the Palestinians are over, the Egyptian foreign minister was quoted by the state-run MENA news agency as saying. "This reflects Israel's intention to set obstacles in the way of peace talks," he added. On Tuesday, Israeli bulldozers demolished what officials said are four structures in two Arab neighborhoods in East Jerusalem.

Gaza aid ship in Israeli stand-off
The Libyan aid ship, the Amalthea, originally bound for the Gaza strip, has been diverted to a port in Egypt after the Israeli navy warned the vessel against trying to break an Israeli blockade on the Palestinian coastal territory, and is now moving very slowly towards El Arish port. An Al Jazeera reporter on board said the vessel, carrying 2,000 tonnes of food and medicine, was met by a "wall" of Israeli gunships as it approached the Palestinian territory. Palestine's possible Gandhi: Budrus activist Ayed Morrar talks to Palestine Note
Washington - "Budrus," Julia Bacha's successful documentary about one West Bank town's success in beating back the Israeli separation barrier with nonviolent resistance, is centered largely on the efforts of Ayed Morrar. Morrar led the organizing effort behind the nonviolent movement against Israeli plans to build its separation wall through his town. In response the Western media's mantra of "where is the Palestinian Gandhi?" (or Martin Luther King Jr.) Morrar's name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for that mantle.

US to Gaza
This is an important moment in history. In the aftermath of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla massacre and increased world-wide scrutiny of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, the Israeli government has mounted a huge public relations campaign spreading the lie that by letting a few more items into Gaza the blockade has been lifted. This is not the reality. Gaza is still under siege, vital building materials and other supplies are banned, exports of goods from Gaza are denied and neither ships nor people can travel without permission from Israel, permission which Israel will not give. Gaza is essentially an open-air prison under a U.S.-backed Israeli blockade. We are planning to launch a U.S. boat to Gaza, joining a flotilla of ships from Europe, Canada, India, South Africa and parts of the Middle East due to set sail in September/ October of this year. In order to succeed in this essential but costly human rights project, we need significant financial support.

Amnesty International: Daily Life in Gaza: Loss, Despair, and Hopelessness
The New York Times today published a major front page story on the daily life in Gaza. The story chronicles the adversity, disunity, and sheer loss that dominates daily life in Gaza, and the Times' website includes some very powerful images and video footage. Civilians in Gaza suffer from a complete lack of opportunities, high unemployment, and scarce resources, including water and electricity, the article concludes. The article also claims that the root of the current suffering is the loss of opportunity and the inability of Palestinians in Gaza to produce for themselves. Since these options do not exist for Gazans, men stay home throughout the day, some taking sedatives to numb their loss, and women struggle to ease their husband's pain and fill their children's bellies. Despite international criticism over the Israeli blockade of Gaza and the international concern over the May 31 flotilla incident, the blockade has continued uninterrupted for three years, and the daily struggles and overwhelming despair of the Palestinian inhabitants of Gaza have been largely overlooked and misrepresented internationally.

Arabs, Israel's second class minority
In a recent column in The New York Times, Thomas Friedman reflected on the strong Israeli economy, quoting a recent survey that put the number of Israeli millionaires at 8,419. Such a figure is testimony to the successes of entrepreneurs who transformed Israel’s economy into one worthy of membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. However, what Friedman didn’t mention is that Arab Israelis, who represent over one-fifth of the Israeli population, are virtually absent from this enviable list. Indeed, the growth of the economy has widened the gap economically and socially between Jewish and non-Jewish Israelis.

‘Bulletin of Atomic Scientists’ says violent resistance is natural response of people humiliated by collective punishment, Philip Weiss
One of the wonderful things about the Israel/Palestine issue is that when folks wake up and see Palestinians as fellow human beings, they tend to move fairly quickly toward ideas of liberation. It's happening all over. Here's a great piece by anthropologist Hugh Gusterson, in Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists of all places, slamming Israel's "sledgehammer" policy of collective punishment as a response to Palestinian resistance. And describing with great sympathy the corner that Israeli expansionism has placed Palestinians in. And, finally, celebrating the international "freedom riders" whose presence is so vital to the Palestinian cause.

Israel's Confidence-Destroying Measures, By James Gundun – Washington, D.C.
Despite Israel's perceived strength it really isn't in a position to bargain. America is now the only dependable ally, having lost Europe after the Gaza war. Turkey has renewed the diplomatic vigor against Israel's hostility towards Iran and unilateral actions in the Palestinian territories while the Arab League, sensing blood, is circling the waters. The Palestinians hold a strong hand and don’t need to rush into direct talks. Nor is the traditional fear of obstructing direct talks as high with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu squeezed internally from both sides and masquerading around “peace."

Moussawi: to Hang Spies to Put End to Shameful Phenomenon
15/07/2010 Member of the Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc MP Hussein Moussawi said on Thursday that the victory of the Resistance in the July 2006 war prevented the Israeli enemy of achieving its goals. Moussawi said that the Israeli spies were accomplices in all the Zionist aggression's repercussions, stressing the need to hang them to put an end to this shameful phenomenon. He noted that those who defend the agents will only show Lebanon as a divided country towards its national principles and causes. "How can we turn into a unified national society if we are unable to confront those who have violated national principles?" Moussawi wondered, urging the need to establish a capable state with a national bloc comprised of the army, people, and Resistance. The Hezbollah MP concluded his statement by calling to adopt the human and social rights for the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon, adding that rectifying Lebanese-Palestinian ties would serve to facilitate their return to their homeland and eliminate naturalization fears.

Iran's Amiri talks about US "abduction"
An Iranian man who says he was kidnapped and interrogated for 14 months by US authorities in the United States, has returned to his home country Iran where he was reunited with his family. Shahram Amiri says he was abducted by US and Saudi agents at gun point while on a pilgrimmage to the Saudi city of Mecca last year and taken to the US where he was allegedly physically and psychologically tortured. The US government has denied all the allegations, saying the man was free in the US and was not held against his own will. Speaking to Al Jazeera, Amiri said: "For 14 months I was put under a number of pressures in the US. And in reality the freedom to communicate with my family and to express myself in an ordinary fashion was not granted. "Behind the scenes this was very politically motivated," he said. Although there were assumptions that Amiri was a nuclear scientist and thus could hold in depth information about Iran's nuclear programme, he and the Iranian government have insisted that he is merely an academic researcher.
