On March 2nd, 9-year-old Dawoud Abu Armana underwent plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio for injuries he sustained during the Israeli assault on Gaza in January, 2009. Dawoud suffered head wounds when his home in the Breij refugee camp was hit by Israeli shells while his family sought refuge. Dawoud had two defects in his skull filled by Dr. Frank Papay, as well as tissue expanders put under his scalp to start the process of fixing the damaged areas of his head. His next operation will be in May or June to complete his treatment. Dawoud came with three other injured Gaza children in February to the USA for free care that he could not get in his homeland.
