- AND UC PRESIDENT MARK YUDOF: the pro-Israelis at UCI have started their own movement at UC Irvine, and they are actually asking their supporters to write letters to the president of the entire University of California. His name is Mark G. Yudof - email: president@ucop.edu

Feel free to use any of the points below (if you're feeling lazy, copy/paste!):

1. Their speech was protected. It did not constitute hate speech and did not incite violence. Michael oren's freedom of speech does not deny their freedom of speech and their freedom to protest an individual who is the official representative of a country which has committed war crimes as determined by the human rights council and agreed upon by a VAST majority of the general assembly. They had the right to protest the ambassador's presence so long as it was not hateful and did not incite violence.

2. Civil disobedience is part of the fabric of american society. This is particularly relevant during black history month where we celebrate African Americans who stood up to unjust state powers and often were punished disproportionately for their acts.

3. The students acted peacefully and did not resist arrest; in fact after making their statement they walked out willingly and freely.

4. Both the irvine police and the UCI administration has acted disproportionately to the situation due to undeniable outside pressures and lobbies. The response is unparalleled by other protests including the much larger protests at UCI during the fee hikes.

5. Michael Oren represents a country which has engaged in war crimes and potentially crimes against humanity as determined by Justice Richard Goldstone and the Human Rights Council. It continues to commit war crimes by maintaining a 3 year long siege on Gaza which is nothing less than collective punishment. It also is increasing its settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, in direct contravention to US policy. His speaking tour is directly and undeniably related to israel's current rebranding efforts which has been widely acknowledged in major media sources including the NY Times. In an effort to lay shadow on Israel's war crimes and horrific treatment of the indigenous Palestinian population, Oren and other official representatives of Israel attempt to rebrand themselves as a democracy victimized by the negative treatment of the international community.

6. Palestinian civil society has called upon all citizens of conscience to boycott, divest and sanction Israel. In an effort to heed that call, we citizens and students of conscience directly and vocally opposed and rejected the israeli presence on our campuses. We wil continue to reject and protest the Israeli presence until Israel ends its occupation, ends its apartheid policies, and abides by all the UN resolutions including primarily UN Resolution 194, God willing.

7. When we as students are suffering tremendously from 30% fee hikes and a decrease in the quality of our education due to the recession which has left CA nearly bankrupt, we admonish the university and the US government for implicitly supporting maintained US policies that allow a continued $3 billion a year of military assistance to Israel, which has the 4th largest military and nuclear arsenal, in direct contravention to US laws (the Foreign Assistance Act and the Arms Export Control Act) which require an immediate cutting of aid upon the realization that the country engages in human rights violations. Our tax dollars should not support a state which commits war crimes particularly when our tax dollars would be better utilized paying for our classrooms and our tuition!

Thank you for all that you do!
