Merry Christmas

Tomorrow we celebrate

we praise a birth of a savior

the promised coming of a man who came to teach us to love our enemies as our brothers

who taught a new commandment of loving God with heart soul and mind

We are summoned upon to love each other just as much

In Bethlehem today, the nativity they tell us where Jesus was born

It is an open air prison surrounded by a 30ft grey concrete wall with watchtowers and checkpoints armed by soldiers

Under an military occupation like it was 2000 years by people who again covet the land

So as you sing "O Little Town of Bethlehem" contemplate this and recognize your part of it

The Prince of Peace who let his enemies torture and murder him

Who proclaimed forgiveness, mercy, nonviolence and empathy for on and all

Who calls on all to rejoice for the Kingdom of God is now here in each and every heart

This kingdom is the God-light of the good deeds you do sprung from your love

3 years of ministry that has now inspired 2 billion to follow

yet what have we learned, what do we do and practice?

Do we war on our neighbor for what he has and we desire to steal?

Do we our imprison our brothers and sisters unfairly?

The poor suffer for lack of what we throw in the trash

1 billion will go to bed Christmas eve hungry

millions will sleep under the stars homeless

Ponder on this as you lay out your cookies and milk for Santa

Your country is in other nations with guns and violence uninvited

your home safe and sound from the horror

all that is done in your name is within your power to affect

Remember what this day is all about and the lessons taught so well 2000 years ago

and what we instructed upon to achieve
