Jordan's activists planned to break Gaza besiege by transporting humanitarian aid to residents there, local daily the Jordan Times reported on Monday.
Preparations are under way to dispatch a convoy of ships to Gaza Strip to break the Israeli blockade and provide food and medical supplies to Gaza residents, said Zaki Bani Rsheid, Secretary General with the Islamic Action Front (IAF), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan. "By dispatching the ships, Jordan will become the first Arab country to take such an initiative. The idea is to have all segments of society, officials, civil society organizations, activists and professional associations work together to aid the Palestinians in Gaza," campaign coordinator Rhayyel Gharaibeh said on Sunday.
"Palestinians in Gaza are living with no food, power or water and they need assistance. Arab countries and the whole world should shoulder the responsibility to save them and end the blockade of the Israeli enemy, which does not respect agreements and laws," Gharaibeh said.
"Several European countries have sent ships to end the blockade on Gaza and we need to do the same to encourage other countries to follow suit," added Gharaibeh.
Arab and Islamic countries as well as the international community must take similar actions in order to end the siege on Gaza Strip, he stressed.
UN food distribution to half of Gaza's 1.5 million population has come to a halt on Friday as Israel maintained a total blockade of the enclave, it is reported.
International and human rights organizations including UN and the EU have urged Israel to ease the blockade on Gaza, which was imposed after the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) won legislative election in early 2006 and tightened earlier this month.
