El Khoudary: Israeli deceives Mainstream, Gaza siege still harsh

Gaza/PCAS- Palestinian Legislative Council member and Head of Popular Committee against the Siege, Jamal El Khoudary, announced today that the Israeli claim to have ended or eased the blockade on the Gaza Strip is a ruse.

"The blockade of the Gaza Strip continues after two years, the crossings are still tightly closed, and opening them partially does not meet the needs of 15 percent of the population."

The Israeli government lifted the closure of the West Bank that had been imposed for three days for the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah. Al Khudari says that the Israelis tried to sell the lifting of the closure along with a 15 percent opening of Gaza commercial crossings as signaling a "facilitation of movement and easing of restrictions."

El Khoudary said in Gaza on Saturday, "The Israeli occupation is using this information to try to convince the world that it has responded to the calls against the siege on the Palestinians."

He noted that the Gaza Strip is still living under siege threatening the life of 1.6 million people while the West Bank "lives at the mercy of the Apartheid Wall which is a death trap and a prosecution of all citizens, their livelihoods and their trades. All the while there are attempts to Judaize Jerusalem, destructive excavations under Al Aqsa Mosque, and the prosecution of Jerusalemites."

The Chair of the People's Committee against the Siege is calling for journalists to "expose these lies by exposing the truth of the effects of the disastrous siege on all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip including economic, health, social, educational, agricultural and trade."
