Cultural festival in Saffa village honors Naji al-Ali
A cultural festival was held in Saffa on August 30, 2008, marking the twenty-first anniversary of the assassination of Palestinian artist Naji al-Ali. The organizers of the festival portrayed Handala, the famous cartoon character of a Palestinian refugee boy of ten years old created by Naji al-Ali on a giant banner suspended in the sky tethered to a balloon.
The festival included activities for children and young people, and musical and dance performances, as well as exhibits and information about Handala, Naji al-Ali and Palestinian cultural resistance. Singers performed songs by Samih Shqeir as well as Palestinian folkloric and popular songs.
The festival was organized by the Handala Cultural Center in Saffa village, and was attended by numerous local residents and international delegations.
