Israeli terror continues to stalk Gaza

The world can continue to stand still as the bloodbath goes on. There is no need for the United Nations to condemn the attacks. There is no need for its Security Council to meet behind closed doors to discuss the matter. There is no need for US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to attempt "softening" Israel's aggression.

In fact, there is no need for the Arab world or the Islamic countries to be remotely concerned with what is unfolding in Gaza. Israel has put on its cloak of terror and exercised its iron fist and no one could stop that.

The artillery shelling never ends. The airstrikes never stop. The bloodbath never comes to a conclusion. For the Palestinians in Gaza, daily living is defined by the body count, the number of coffins being hurried to the cemeteries, the crammed hospital corridors and the overflowing of intensive care units.Saturday's Israeli attacks against the Palestinians have killed more than 60 people and injured over 200. It is estimated that the overall death toll has been the highest in recent years.

The UN says it has shuttered 37 schools it runs as a result of the fighting, affecting about 40,000 students. Hospitals are also suffering from a severe shortage of medicine and medical equipment because of the punishing Israeli blockade.

"What is happening in Gaza is a massacre of civilians, women and children, a collective killing, genocide. We can't bear what the Israelis are doing, and what the Israelis are doing doesn't lend the peace process any credibility," said Chief Palestinian negotiator Ahmad Qorei.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas stated that the peace talks are suspended as the "holocaust" continues. Israel reigns by the rules of violence, and the world stands shamefully powerless and useless in containing this force.
