... an apple a day keeps the doctor away
I have to admit I'm addicted to apples. Ever since I
discovered that eating an apple a day keeps you
healthy and your teeth in good condition, I've been
doing my best to develop this habit. Eating an apple
had become the typical way in which I ended my day.
Sometimes, I even found myself day-dreaming about
the crunchy, juicy, green apple that was
waiting for me at home.

Palestinian refugees livin
in 'slum conditions'
Living and health conditions of Palestinian refugees
in unofficial camp in the Lenbanon: A cross-sectional
survey. Palestinian refugees in unofficial camps are living
in slum conditions redolent of UK housing in the last century,
finds research in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community
Health. The research team surveyed 437 residents in all 97
households in the Gaza Displacement Centre in Beirut,
Lebanon in May 2003. The residents were quizzed about
the number of rooms they lived in, access to outside air,
the presence of mould and damp, as well as their age,

Jewish-Arab coexistence. As he grew up, he became
a gunman during years of fighting between Israelis and
Palestinians and rose to become the head of the Al Aqsa
Martyrs' Brigades militant group in his home town.
Mr. Bush's trip to Ramallah
So US President George W. Bush came to
Ramallah, and of course the city was turned upside
down. The Palestinian Authority (PA) wanted to show
that they were up to the task of handling the security.
I managed to get a press pass and I was cynical but
curious to see how the big show would go down. All the
photographers and journalists were told to come at 6am
at a certain location so that they could be taken all
together to the Muqata'a, the PA's headquarters.

Qarantina was the site of yesterday's message to
the Bush administration where a 33 lb bomb killed
three and wounded 21. The explosion destroyed the
bomb resistant titanium reinforced US four wheel drive
SUV which Embassy security agents liked to use to
give their girlfriends rides and make fast food pickups
for Embassy staff. This day it was being used for an
Embassy errand, a drop off at Beirut's airport. Qarantina,
forever etched in the black annals of Palestinian history is
the area of east Beirut near the Port where on April 13,
1976 Phalange forces killed 26 Palestinian bus riders.
A grisly crime, followed by another massacre of Palestinians
months later in nearby Tal al-Zattar Refugee Camp which
began on August 12, 1976 and according to scholar
Helena Cobban killed 1,500 Palestinians in one day,
and eventually as many as 3,000 according to other
reports. Qarantina and Talal-Zattar. Some historians argue
that these events ignited Lebanon's 15 year and Civil War
which killed and injured 152,000 and from which Lebanon
has never recovered.
