(an honest anti-zionist Jew)

Dear friends,

No matter where one lives in the United States,
your mainstream newspaper is for sure pro-Israel.

Here in Massachusetts it's the liberal Boston Globe,
which has not tried to hide the fact that the people of Gaza
are suffering and dying terribly at the hands of Israel's
most recent blocking of fuel to Gaza.

But the Globe headlined it this way today:
"Power cut leaves Gaza City in the dark:
Israel blocks fuel in response to rocket attacks."

As if the rocket attacks justified Israel's savagery!
(Yesterday the Globe made sure to run a long article
about the Israeli town of Sderot, which has been hit
by the rockets, with headlines like,
"Stream of rockets wears on Israeli town:
Dwindling population lives in constant fear.")

Of course, for Americans who do not know (because papers
like the Globe refuse to tell them) that Israel carries out
ethnic cleansing against non-Jews and that
that is the fundamental injustice in the conflict,
the rocket attacks really do seem to justify
Israel's savagery against Gazans.

The Globe will never tell Americans that if (a big if!)
Israel stopped
its ethnic cleansing and treated non-Jews as the
equals of Jews
in every respect (as Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday
we celebrate today, demanded for blacks, and as virtually
all Americans believe is the morally right thing to do) then any
Palestinian individuals who might still try to
fire rockets at random

Jews in towns like Sderot would be viewed by virtually
all other Palestinians as criminals who should be forcibly
prevented from carrying out their anti-social deeds, and that
any Palestinian government or authority with even a shred
of legitimacy would, with overwelming Palestinian public support,
arrest such criminals and try them for murder.

Nor does the Globe tell its readers that
the Israeli government
needs those rockets to be fired at random innocent Jews,
because it needs such a boogie man
to frighten and control the Jewish population of Israel,
and that if Palestinians don't provide such a boogie man
on their own then the intelligence services
of the Israeli government orchestrate such deeds themselves,
as they have often done in the past
with their famous "false flag" operations.

Those of us who understand what is going on cannot help
but feel a combination of rage and helplessness.

We can try to educate our fellow Americans, but there is
a limit to what that can accomplish, even were we
to succeed in reaching every American with the truth.
The Americans with real power--the plutocracy-
-already know the truth, and they support Israel's ethnic
cleansing because it strengthens elite power in the world.

The majority of Americans who would oppose Israel's
ethnic cleansing if they knew the truth about it,
wouldn't be able to stop our government from supporting Israel
unless they first made a revolution to take power away
from the plutocracy and create a genuine democracy.

In fact, Americans have a zillion reasons for making
such a revolution,
and even if they did it in complete ignorance of the truth about
the Palestine conflict, it would do more to help the
Palestinians than
if they learned the truth about Palestine but remained
out of power.
Why? Because once there was a genuine democracy in the
United States, ordinary Americans would for the first time
be able
to do things like have government-held public hearings
to hear the truth about places like Palestine, and in a short time
they would learn the truth and turn U.S. foreign policy
around 180 degrees.

Therefore, we need to make the question of democracy
and its absence in the United States the #1 issue, in order
to provide, in practice, any help to the people of Gaza.
We need to make a revolution in the United States.
We need to judge what we do in terms
of how well it contributes to this goal.
