CAF: Gaza - Another day, another attack on civilians

Another day, another attack on civilians
Toronto – the Canadian Arab Federation (CAF)
strongly condemns the killing of innocent civilians in
Gaza committed by the Israeli army yesterday. The
Palestinian National Initiative reports that 117
Palestinians have been killed in attacks by
the IDF since November.
CAF calls upon the Canadian government to take a clear
and unbiased stand and denounce these new atrocities
directed against innocent Palestinians. The government’s
current silence in responding to these crimes is troubling;
it is apparent the recent initiative to bring peace to the
region has now stalled due to the vicious Israeli onslaught
against Gaza.
“Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier has
been given an important opportunity to contribute
positively to the peace process. He should assume
a transparent position and press for a just peace
based on international law and demand the Israeli
government cease its attacks on innocent civilians.
In addition, during Mr. Bernier visit to the occupied
territories, he failed to unequivocally state Canada’s
position regarding the illegal Israeli settlements in
the occupied territories (although it is unequivocally
contrary to International Law). This delivers yet
another wrench into Canada’s role as a peacemaker
and a participant in the entire peace process”, said
Khaled Mouammar, CAF National President.
The Israeli government continues to skillfully play
both sides of the field without any consequences.
On one end, the Israelis utter platitudes pledging
to engage in peace talks and negotiations, but on
another end, they persist in continuing their brutal
occupation and wage war crimes against civilians.
“The Israeli government’s hypocrisy is on full display
in front of the watchful eyes of the international
community. We are all seeing that they are
doing everything in their power to undermine
the peace process while simultaneously
ignoring the outcry from the international
community and peace organizations to stop
the killing of civilians”, stated
Mohamed Boudjenane, CAF Executive Director.
