This news item is very depressing. It also helps put to rest the myth that Israel has provided meaningful comfort to Holocaust survivors. One can only wonder what happened to the $billions in German reparation payments and other funds that have poured into Israel, a country that did not exist when the Holocaust occurred.
Little of it seems to have gone to Hitler's victims.
* Critics maintain that more of the nearly $80 billion
in reparations Israel has received in compensation
from Germany should have gone to the survivors. A
large percentage of the money, which was paid
beginning in the 1950s as Israelis struggled to build
their fledgling state, went to the military and for
infrastructure.
