Some of Alison's tireless advocacy includes speaking out against anti-Palestinian bias at media conferences, meeting with editorial boards to discuss their coverage, distributing informational flyers about Palestine on university campuses (personally!), designing, printing and distributing cards about the situation in Bethlehem during Christmas celebrations at churches, and much more. As a result of her courage in speaking out at every possible opportunity, she has been the subject of personal attacks (including the inevitable "anti-Semitism" charge, and also death threats), but this has only increased her determination. I have had the opportunity to cooperate with Alison on several projects, and find her dedication really inspiring.
In the meantime, for more insight on the topic, you can check her organization's website www.ifamericansknew.org as well as Palestine Media Watch at www.pmwatch.org. A discussion will follow her presentation. Again, you can confirm your attendance on Facebook if you'd like, where this event is listed in the Palestine network.
Hope to see you there!

Al-Haq presents...
"Exposing and confronting US media bias regarding the Palestinian issue"
a presentation by Alison Weir
Date: Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007
Time: 11:00 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Protestant Church Hall, Ramallah
(across from Al-Haq offices)
Alison Weir is an American freelance journalist who has traveled independently throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. There, she found a situation at odds with what was being reported by the American media. Upon conducting statistical analyses of American mainstream media's coverage of the conflict, Alison found it to be very biased against the Palestinian side. She founded If Americans Knew to communicate to the American public the truths that their news media ignores and distorts. She will be talking about her findings and how to interact with the media to demand fair coverage.
Admission free; translation and refreshments provided.
