Leftists call for unity, not internal chaos, in true Palestinian cause for independence

A spokesperson for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has come out Monday in condemnation of yesterday’s clashes between Hamas' Government and Fateh's forces, emphasizing the need for a national unity government incorporating all political factions.

The leftist spokesperson said Monday, “The recent events in the West Bank and Gaza that have killed and injured dozens of Palestinians serve only the Israeli occupation."

Leaders from the Hamas and Fateh parties have seconded the leftist PFLP’s concern, calling for restraint and a calming of the situation. Hamas and Fateh leaders have also stressed maintaining national interests over more narrow, partisan interests.

The PFLP spokesperson called upon members of the Higher Follow-Up Committee to play their role in “defusing the crisis and stopping the bloodshed.” He called upon President Abbas and government leaders to work for an immediate de-escalation of the situation, stressing that further internal strife comprises the future of a Palestinian state.
