Last night Israeli forces attacked Jenin Refugee Camp. The invasion of the northern West Bank began in the late afternoon and carried on for hours.
Israeli forces were conducting an undercover operation in which they arrested “wanted” members of the Al Aqsa Brigades and Saraya Al Quds.
The community was preparing for the evening Athan to call and end to the day of Ramadan fasting when Israeli special forces first incurred. Eyewitnesses reported that the special forces came in a car with Palestinian license plates in order to mislead the people before major forces crashed into the camp's center.
The special units stopped the car in front of the home of Arafat Abu Awad, who was surprised that his house seemed the focal point as Israeli forces opened intensive gun fire just outside of it.
While the special units surrounded the house of Abu Awad, at least 40 military vehicles stormed the camp. Patrols broke through all entrances and sealed them , leaving no exit or entrance for anyone. Soldiers broke into homes, installing teams of snipers on high floors and rooftops after expelling families or locking them in a single room.
Members of the armed resistance from Saraya Al Quds and the Al Aqsa Brigades began fighting the Israeli forces. The Islamic Jihad and Fateh armed resistance wings returned fire, but Israeli forces shot a 23 year old in the head. He was rushed to the hospital. Israeli forces say he was a member of Saraya Al Quds.
At the same time, tens of snipers had their machine guns trained on the home of Mahmoud Al Sa'adi, a leader of Islamic Jihad.
Israeli forces had tightened the siege around Abu Awad's house, who said that the soldiers opened fire directly on the house, brought in a bulldozer and shouted threats to demolish it through a loudspeaker. They demanded that the Palestinians surrender to the occupation forces.
In another part of the northern West Bank's Jenin Refugee Camp, Israeli forces besieged a house and arrested two 18 year olds from the town of Yabed under the pretext that they were affiliated with Saraya Al Quds and the Al Aqsa Brigages.
Israeli forces withdrew from the camp after the invasion amid intense fighting, while Israeli military sources announced that the operation succeeded in arresting two of the most “wanted” men accused of involvement in armed resistance against Israeli military targets.
Mahmoud Al Sa'adi said that these attacks will not stop Islamic Jihad's resistance. “Targeting and harassment, repression and aggression, only strengthen the resolve and defiance of our fighters to resist the occupation.”
