Israeli occupation stops thousands of Palestinians from reaching Aqsa Mosque

Occupied Jerusalem - On the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, Israeli occupation authorities stepped up security measures in and around Jerusalem to stop Palestinian worshippers from reaching the Aqsa Mosque.

Israeli occupation authorities had announced that it will bar those under 40 years from entering with Jerusalem to pray at the Aqsa Mosque and that it will only allow those who have valid permits to enter.

Palestinian sources however said that even those over forty were not able to enter Jerusalem as the Israeli occupation authorities had thousands of names on its computers, some of them in their eighties, whom they banned from entering Jerusalem and when asked about the reasons for banning them they said it was because of "security considerations".

Thousands of Palestinian worshippers flocked to the holy city but were stopped at roadblocks and had to perform their prayers at those roadblocks.

Despite these strict measures around 100,000 worshippers managed to reach the Aqsa Mosque and perform their prayers. The vast bulk of them come from within the green line.
