PLO Condemns Arrest of Deputy PM

The PLO Executive Committee (EC) condemned Saturday the Israeli arrest of Deputy PM Dr. Nasereddin Al-Shaer from his house in Ramallah.

In a meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas, the EC considered this arbitrary arrest, and the previous arrests of the PLC Speaker and other ministers and legislators, as a flagrant violation to the signed accords between the PLO and the Government of Israel, which assure the full immunity of the Palestinian National Authority, its Government and PLC.

The EC called on the UN Security Council, HR organisations and the League of Arab States to immediately intervene to release all the arrested Palestinian officials, saying that it is an Israeli attempt to paralyse the work of the PNA.

It affirmed that the issue of the Israeli soldier and reaching an agreement to exchange the prisoners through Egyptian efforts, must be achieved without any delay, saying that any delay in this issue would not serve the Palestinian national interests and give Israel pretexts to continue its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people.

Regarding the launch of home made rockets from the Gaza Strip, the EC affirmed that adhering to the truce in these circumstances is a supreme national interest.

As for the abduction of two Journalists from Fox News, the EC called for their immediate release, since this act harms the image of the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.

The EC thoroughly discussed the issue of a national unity government, saying that forming of such a government is of great emergency, after the political isolation of the Palestinian people and their cause in the last few months.

The EC added that the preconditions regarding the new government, abolishes the idea of its formation and would not solve any element of the current crisis. The preconditions also aim at wasting time and seeking other political bargains that harm the supreme national interests.

It called for giving a chance for consultation under the leadership of President Abbas to form the government according to the National Reconciliation Document.

The EC discussed the intention to launch a political programme to revive the peace process, since all unilateral solutions have failed and it became clear that ending wars demands a solution of the Palestinian cause, according to the international legitimacy to end the Israeli occupation.
