Killed by Israel Policy: Delayed Exit of a Toddler from Gaza Results in Death

By Jesse Bacon | Sabbah Report | www.sabbah.biz
Saturday, a child the same age as my daughter was killed in Gaza. She was not killed by a missile, or a suicide bomber, or any of the other dramatic ways children die in the Middle East. She was killed by an Israeli policy, that the people of Gaza are to be imprisoned as punishment for who the adults voted for. While many children have been killed by this policy, this case sounds particularly horrific. Her family and Physicians for Human Rights tried valiantly to get her admitted into Israel for treatment, to no avail. I can imagine no worse nightmare for a parent, to watch your child dying knowing there is medical care a few miles away that you are not allowed to seek out. The next time someone tells you things aren't so bad in Gaza any more, or that Israel is not responsible for what goes on there, remember this story. There can be no justification for allowing a sick child to die when you have the means to prevent it.

PHR-Israel has the story
:

Nasma Abu Lasheen died on Saturday, October 16, 2010 in Gaza. Israel failed to issue her an urgent entry permit for life-saving medical treatment at Ha-Emek Medical Center in Afula, Israel. She was two years old.
Abu Lasheen, a young resident of Gaza diagnosed with Leukemia, was referred for emergency treatment in Israel on October 6, 2010. When requests to the Israeli Army for an entry permit went unanswered for several days, by way of B'tselem, the family contacted Physicians for Human Rights- Israel (PHR-Israel) for additional help. That very same day, on October 13, 2010, PHR-Israel contacted the Gaza District Coordination Office (DCO) demanding a permit be issued immediately to the baby and her father to enable their entry into Israel. A military approval was finally granted the next afternoon, October 14, 2010.
Abu Lasheen's medical condition had been deteriorating rapidly and by the time the permit was received, the treating doctor in Gaza, Dr. Mohammad Abu Sha'aban, said she was too sick to travel. Nasma died in the early morning hours of October 16, 2010.
PHR-Israel immediately lodged a complaint with the head of the Israeli DCO, demanding an immediate inquiry into those responsible for the delayed response.
Abu Lasheen's death comes just days PHR-Israel testified to the Israeli Turkel Commission which investigates the Flotilla incident, on the humanitarian situation in Gaza Strip as a result of Israel's closure policy. In their October 13th testimony, PHR- Israel pointed to the rising numbers of Gaza patients denied exit for treatment in hospitals outside the Strip, a phenomenon that has intensified since Israel's tightened closure took effect June 2007. PHR-Israel emphasized that for the patients, a delayed or non-approved permit could mean the difference between quality of life and preventable pain and suffering, and in many cases, even the difference between life and death, as demonstrated by the Abu Lasheem case.
PHR- Israel calls on the Israeli authorities at Erez Crossing to investigate those responsible for delays involved in Nasma Abu Lasheen's case. PHR- Israel reiterates its demand that Israel fulfill its obligations vis-à-vis the residents of Gaza by ensuring them full and timely access to medical treatment unavailable in the Gaza Stip.

Israeli Shin Bet spies uncovered in South African Airports working for EL AL airlines

An investigation into claims by South Africans that they have been harassed at airports by people claiming to be with 'Airport security' when in fact they are working for El Al Israeli airline. The interesting part though is that all these security guards are trained by Shin Bet and actually work for them. Shockingly they illegally detain and question passengers (even when not flying on their plane), as well as illegally search people, make copies of documents and pass these off to Israel.

Generally with video's like this, there will be cries of "Anti-Semitism"!PLEASE NOTE… THIS IS NOT THAT! THIS VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS ILLEGAL SPYING, BREAKING THE LAW, SPYING ON INNOCENT CITIZENS OF A SOVEREIGN COUNTRY, SPIES BEING PLANTED AS 'SECURITY GUARDS'.

There may also be claims to discredit this story, the story was aired by CARTE BLANCHE.

Israel – South Africa Crises Faces Deadline

Israel's national airline El Al may be forced to ground all flights to South Africa on Sunday after South Africa accused Israel of violating international law by using armed Israeli intelligence agents with diplomatic passports to screen passengers boarding the El Al flights in South Africa.

A diplomatic quarrel between the two countries broke out in September after "Carte Blanche", a South African investigative television program, alleged that the El Al's policy was to profile passengers based on race and religion and offered evidence that its security personnel were actually employed by the Shin Bet, Israel's internal security service.

Using hidden cameras, detectives and testimony from a former South African El Al security officer disgruntled over the alleged non-payment of a bonus by El Al, the South African investigative program found evidence that the security personnel for El Al, a private company, had their guns licensed through the Israeli embassy and alleged that the officers were agents of Israel's secret service. The program explicitly accused the Israelis of using racist security policies and knowingly violating South African law.

The program led to an outcry in South Africa, a country still recovering from the wounds of decades of racial persecution during the Apartheid era, and in November South Africa revoked the diplomatic immunity of all El Al staff operating in the country.

A team of Israeli diplomats was dispatched to South Africa to try resolve the matter, but after months of negotiations the two countries do not seem to have come to an agreement on the status and operation of Israeli security personnel in the country.

El Al has now announced that it will cancel all flights to South Africa if its security staff are not provided with diplomatic passports by the end of the month.

Israeli President Shimon Peres is expected to raise the issue when he meets his South African counterpart President Jacob Zuma at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week.

El Al refused to comment on the content of the negotiations.

"The Israeli Foreign Ministry is dealing with this and we are hoping that the matter will be solved," Anat Friedman, a spokesperson with El Al Israel Airlines told The Media Line.

Andy David, a spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Israel would not waver on security.

"In order for us to fly anywhere in the world there are some security preconditions that need to be fulfilled," he told The Media Line. "If they are not fulfilled then El Al cannot fly. With regards to South Africa, the two governments have been in touch and are trying to solve the matter, but if the necessary preconditions for the security of the El Al flight cannot be met then El Al will have to stop flying to South Africa."

South African officials were also tight lipped on the status of the late-hour negotiations.

"We cannot comment on discussions that are ongoing," Elizabeth Smith, Political and Trade Counsellor at the South African Embassy in Tel Aviv told The Media Line. "We prefer to keep these discussions on a bilateral basis and not to speak about the issue indirectly through the media."

But a senior South African Foreign Affairs official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the issue centered around diplomatic immunity.

"South Africa did not expel a diplomat or withdraw the diplomatic immunity of a diplomat," the official told The Media Line. "We withdrew diplomatic immunity for someone who was not a diplomat."

"We are following our obligations under international law," they said. "The Vienna convention is an agreement among states to regulate who is entitled to diplomatic immunity and who is not. Security officers working outside of embassies are not entitled to diplomatic immunity."

"Now the governments are trying to work out how they can best solve the problem in such a way that our adherence to international law is respected and our domestic legislation is respected," the official added, referring to South African legislation governing where armed security personnel can operate.

Directives from the Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, require Israeli airlines to provide their own security in foreign airports, an arrangement host countries have traditionally accepted. The head of an Israeli airline's security team in a particular country, a Shin Bet agent, is generally given a diplomatic passport so as to operate with diplomatic immunity.

"Israel Security Agency agents probably operate wherever they perceive a threat," David J Bentley, an analyst with Big Pond Aviation told The Media Line. "Authorities around the world are generally just not quite sure how to handle the situation."

El Al flies a Boeing 767-300 to Johannesburg three times a week, carrying between 1235 and 1400 passengers a week when at full capacity. El Al is the only airline that runs direct flights between Israel and South Africa.

"With the World Cup coming up in South Africa this year and the world's media so focused on South Africa, South African authorities simply do not want any more attention on the country in a manner in which they are not in control of," Bentley said. "To have agents of another country operating in their territory, it's probably the worst time for things like this to happen."

But Dr Virginia Tilley, a researcher at South Africa's Human Sciences Research Council, said the incident had caused much more embarrassment for Israel than South Africa.

"To have put South Africa in a position of having its national law and national sovereignty violated by Israeli intelligence operations is a considerable embarrassment to the Israeli government," she told The Media Line. "Of course these things happen but they are not supposed to be publicly thrown in the face of the host country."

"This was outrageous from the beginning," said Dr Tilley, who was featured on the Carte Blanche investigative program as one of the passengers El Al security agents had profiled. "In South Africa it is particularly not OK for anybody to be screening people based on ethnicity or race and giving them a hard time on that basis."

"They are going way beyond what would be necessary for the security of the airplane," she said. "For example I was traveling to Israel, had a series of documents with me and they copied all of them and faxed them to Israel. That has nothing to do with the safety of an airplane."

"They are conducting espionage under the guise of an airline," said Dr Tilley. "They can't operate a foreign intelligence gathering service in South Africa, interrogating South African citizens on South African soil. That's illegal."

"Israel's argument is that they have unique security considerations and that as such they need unique accommodations from the host country," she said. "That argument begins to crumble when you don't inform the host country."

"Nobody likes that," Dr Tilley said. "Most countries would find it quite irritating that the Shin Bet was operating on their soil without telling them, so this has very broad implications and could spread. Other countries will say 'Well if South Africa is not going to let you do illegal things on their soil then we're not going to let you do illegal things on our soil.'"

The Carte Blanche investigative program had sent a Muslim man with a hidden camera to Johannesburg airport to meet a friend near the El Al check-in desk. While the man was not flying and did not approach the check in desk, he was thoroughly interrogated by men claiming to be airport security personnel. The men turned out to be employees of the Israel Security Agency, or Shin Bet, with diplomatic passports and guns licensed through the Israeli embassy.

"El Al does excellent security work, but they work above the law," Jonathan Garb, a former El Al security agent in South Africa told the program. "This here is secret service operating above the law here in South Africa… It's like the CIA, or the FBI, or MI5, but they're hiding behind the guise of the airline."

"The crazy thing is that we are profiling people racially, ethnically, even on religious grounds," he said, pointing out that the Israeli profiling system meant that black passengers endured much harsher profiling than white passengers.

"We pull the wool over everyone's eyes," Garb added. "We do exactly what we want. The local authorities do not know what we are doing."

Mr Garb was employed by the Israeli airline as a security guard and profiler, trained in Israel and tasked with screening passengers attempting to board El Al's direct flight between Johannesburg and Tel Aviv. After 19 years with the airline, he was fired, allegedly after he filed a complaint with the South African Department of Labor over a financial bonus he claims he was entitled to.

The Media Propagandists

The Media Propagandists

By Phillip Marlowe | Sabbah Report | www.sabbah.biz

You know, when I sit down here and decide to pound out a blog posting, I always start thinking about what kind of image I'll end up using to illustrate what I'm trying to say. I think it's important since it gets people's attention and makes them want to read the copy. It's the copy and what I want to say, that's really important. Or so I tell myself.

The photo artwork is only a kind of compilation of what the article says. There is that old saying of the Chinese about a picture being worth a thousands words – which I think is true. Sometimes I want to use (with good reason) a picture of a thermonuclear mushroom cloud, but try not to. Why?Because it's a bit hyped-up and paranoid to do so. Yet the reality is that it is these people who are really over-doing the paranoia bit on your White butt.

So I'm watching this show called Glenn Beck on FOX Jew news yesterday, and this image comes up in spades. Now, Glenn Beck appears to be some kind of good old boy type cable news personality, basically just another entertainer (who gets tantalizingly close to off-limit topics – the best kind of disinfo tactic). And you can tell they are entertainers, because they talk more than the guests they bring on (Bill O'Reilly especially). The guests are really there just to sell a book, while the personality is really there just to be personable.

Anyway, Beck had this smarmy little Jew on named Joel Rosenberg (above left). Rosenberg is some kind of "born again" Neocon who apparently loves jerking the chains of the Dispensationalist Evangelicals with all the "End Times" business, writing both fiction and non-fiction (supposedly). So now he's on Beck's show pushing all the Iran paranoia biz so he can sell copies of his new book "Epicenter" to the Mideast-concerned Goyim masses.

Beck and Rosenberg both turn into little Dr. Strangeloves over the Iranian threat – all the Mad Mullahs and nuclear bomb stuff – and going off about Iran launching a satellite into orbit. But Beck doesn't forget to keep chiming in that most of Iranians are still "good people," just to keep it all PC palatable for the indoctrinated Diversity people. How considerate – too bad none of that makes one whit of difference to the real powers that be.

The History Channel has been on a tear lately with 'End of the World' programming for some odd reason - from the usual Nostradamus crap to Aztec 2012 prophecies to the Bible code. What's up with that? Oh yeah, sometimes they do have shows on the evil Hitler and Chupachapras.

Basically, all this Dispensationalist "End Times" stuff is a take-off from the Revelation part of the New Testament, where this hermit guy named John, living in a cave on a island called Patmos, scribed away some wacked-out parchments about the hated Roman emperor Nero. It's full of breaking of the seals or jars or something in the heavenly abode, the Whore of Babylon (I love that one) and horses of the Apocalypse riding through the fires of hell – all right in your face, the viewer of tonight's History Channel show.

Jews, like this smiling Rosenberg creep, have glommed onto all this Dispensationalism crap, not only to make big shekels off books, but also to feed the Israel-supporting American putzes who hope that all the End Time catastrophes will usher in the real Jesus, who will put a stop to all the sleaze out of Hollywood (Jews always seem to work both sides of the equation).

They thought this guy was the Messiah -- until he croaked and stayed that way.

But the religious Jews believe it will be a Jewish Messiah showing up to the really big show and who's name could be anything, so far. Even Mikey, I guess.

So, Rosenberg is talking about the Mad Iranian Mullahs believing in a Messiah, something called the 12th Iman, whom they think is due to make his appearance and will destroy the Great Satan (us) and the little Satan, Israel (his bros). This is all truly nightmarish since they are on the verge of getting the Bomb and looky-here America, they just launched a missile into outer space, so they can now come drop the Big One on us!

All the while watching this, I'm thinking to myself, hell, everything this Rosenberg Jew is blathering about is exactly, not a little, what many crazy Jews themselves think and can really do now. And what's worse is that some of them believe their Jew Messiah (Moshiach in Hebrew) will either wipe out or enslave all the Gentiles – not just those pesky Iranians, but even all those dam fool Christian Evangelicals back here giving them money!

The Chabad-Lubavitchers (also called Chabad Hassids) think that once the Great Rabbi of the Sanhedrin appears, he'll magically increase the borders of Israel to include the entire globe. What this really means is, of course, you'll be under their yoke and a slave to them, or be one dead Goyim.

Bibi boy.

These Lubavitchers are everywhere (70 nations – exactly what they think is needed for the big takeover) and have a multi-million dollar operating budget. This is not some poor minor sect at all. The Mossad is said to use them for safe houses all over the world, for the usual kinds of Zionist shenanigans. Remember the terrorist business Mumbai, India? That Jewish Center (Nariman House), where the husband and wife where killed, was a Chabadist house. Many suspect, with good reason, that they were really sacrificed for a Mossad false-flag operation. They've done it before.

All these Orthodox Jews are big time right-wingers or Likudniks who love Bibi Netanyahu, now in a tight race for PM with the Kadima party's hard-liner woman and daughter of Irgun terrorists, Tzipi Livni (the elections were just today). They love to chant "Netanyahu is good for the Jews." And let's not forget what Netanyahu once said was so good after witnessing all the death and destruction of 9/11 – when he just happened to be in New York that day (curiously, he was also in London during the subway bombings of 7/7):

"It's very good," he said, then quickly added "Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)."

But you'll never, ever see one dam thing about any of this Jewish religious craziness in the US media, though. That, my friends, is the power of Jewry. They can go off all day to us about the dangers of mad Muslims and all their efforts at making a nuke, but not breath a word about themselves doing and thinking exactly the same mad things.

Ask yourself these questions: Why do they absolutely never mention the Jew's Talmud whenever the History Channel does a program on religion? Or discuss the Federal Reserve's beginnings? Why do we never see the History Channel doing something on Israel secretly building the nuke? For that matter, why do we absolutely never hear one word about Israel's nuclear capability on the mainstream news? Most Americans don't even know that Israel has 200 to 400 nukes, ballistic missiles, US Stealth bombers and even ocean-capable, German-made submarines for crying out loud.

You should check out the story of Mordecai Vunanu (above), the brave Israeli (called a "self-hating" Jew), who converted to Christianity and brought to the West concrete evidence of the extant of Israel's nuclear program. The Mossad then literally kidnapped him from a sovereign country (Italy) and threw him in jail for 18 years. When they finally released him, he wanted to leave the country (who wouldn't?), so the evil Jews threw him back in jail to keep him from becoming a symbol in the West. He's still there, last I heard.

This is one guy who really should win the Nobel prize (note how they give them to Zionist terrorists like Begin), but you'll never see that one happen. Wonder why? Check out this quote from Vunanu when he temporarily had his freedom and the situation in America with the US media:

"Israel is only a democracy if you are a Jew... Thanks to Jesus Christ I survived…This US media who are here in Jerusalem are afraid of Israel. Because I am under orders and they don't want trouble, they cooperate with Israel. A good example is the US media who talk about freedom of knowledge, freedom of information like CNN, ABC, 60 Minutes. In this case they are all silent and cooperate with Israel; they fear the Israel lobby and the Israeli authority here. My view is the US Media is totally under the Israeli control. Very sad, very bad that US Media is not free. The Zionist lobby in Washington decides what people in the US should know and hear about. Not just the West Bank is under occupation, but the US Media is under Israeli occupation too." Read more here

Just the barest time researching this on the Internet will show you all this about Israel. But that's not the issue. Get it straight in your head: Why do we not hear about things like this on the telly? Should that not well-prove to you the power and will of these people to keep you in the dark in the US? Note the operative verb there – the "will" to keep you in the dark over what they don't want you to think or know!

The Iranians are not a threat to the US of A. We can melt them into a sheet of glass within 30 minutes should we want. They know this, we know this. The Iranians are simply fighting against the Jew's hegemonistic designs in the region and genocides of fellow Muslims, the Palestinians. The Jews cannot have the Iranians become a power in the region because of what they want to eventually do with the Palestinians and their "Greater Israel" designs on Iraq and Syria. Already, Kurdish Jews are moving into areas of Iraq and forcibly displacing the Chaldean Christians, who lived there for eons.

And there is plenty of reasons to think the Iranians want peace. Even Ahmadinejad. Hell, the Jews often lie when it comes to this guy (he's the new Hitler of the world and it's 1939 all over again!). The Jews at 60 Minutes and Mike Wallace did a interview with him and carefully edited the piece to make him look evil to the American public. That's the kind of Jew-job propaganda tactics they employ on your head!

Jew embedded propagandists (mistakenly termed 'journalists') are all over the airwaves and in print, too. Not only in America, but Britain (bottom left), Canada or any White country really. White Americans have little idea of the pervasiveness of their viewpoints and how vigorously they work to protect Jewry's image, no matter what they do.

All Jews wants you to believe that they are the "good guys," unmercifully attacked simply because they are always "eternally victimized." They are the masters at this schtick on the stupefied, sleeping White populations of the West. It's like this: You accept their view of things, but if you dare to say anything about it, then it's you who are the terrorist supporter, anti-Semite, Hater, or NeoNazi, blah-blah, blah-blah.

Glenn Beck is just another Goyim media personality who knows what he can and can't talk about. All of the talking heads on the air are like this, on both sides of the political equation – MSNBC, CNN, FOX. That's right. Have you ever noticed how people define themselves on who they watch on TV? You can be a Kieth Oberman guy (tough guy liberal) or a Bill O'Reilly fan (tough guy conservative) or a middling quisling, like the friendly Charles Gibson of ABC.

But all of them are really just Jew tools when you get down to it. They would be gone in a Jew York minute should they dare mention "the Jews" or any inconvenient fact about the sacred State of Israel. You can see how they tiptoe around it with all the careful wordage used in any story involving Jews or Israel. Most of the time they take the easy way out and just try to ignore it entirely. That's how it works, people.

Helen C. Thomas

Let's look at a little thing that happened last night on Obama's first press conference. These kind of things are carefully staged, the reporters with questions specifically selected and seated; they won't take questions from just any journalist and if you present problems about the whole deal, then you'll never get another chance – which could easily end your entire career.

An ancient fixture in all this, Helen C. Thomas (right), asked a question about the "so-called terrorists" in Afghanistan and Pakistan. She ended by asking him directly "do you know what countries in the Mideast have nuclear weapons?" Simple question, really.

Obama went on and on about Pakistan, etc. but deftly skipped on by the question on exactly what country in the Mideast has the nuke, saying he wasn't going to speculate and how he didn't want to see things "proliferate." Then he quickly he went on to another reporter just as Helen Thomas vainly tried to ask the question again: "the question was on what countries have them!" Which Obama blatantly ignored.

After the show, Bill O'Reilly had the Neocon Bernie Goldberg on to dissect the press conference and wax Jewish on Obama's performance. Both of them had a big laugh about Thomas as being too old and out of it; saying Thomas should have quit her job back in the days of Lincoln (the first one). And, of course, they never once mentioned her very sharp and important question about nukes in the Mideast. Funny, huh?

They know the deal!

Dick Morris and Eri Fleischer also joined Bernie on Bill O'Reilly's little show to dissect Obama's hot air. Guess what? All of them are dam Jews. Hell, Ari Fleischer is a ordained rabbi in the Chabad Lubavitcher Orthodox Jew group I talked about earlier; the ones who are real-life religious crazies and are every bit as bad as the mad Muslim fundamentalists. Every G-Dam bit.

All Jews, all the time: 1) Bernie Goldberg, Bill O'Reilly's guest pragmatic, conservative Jew mouth and book-pusher (all of them write Iran paranoia books, even the liberal ones). 2) Goldberg with CNN's Old Jew, Larry King, who recently gushed about his kid wishing he was born Black. 3) Dick Morris, a crypto-Jew who, supposedly, is not Jewish (because he married a Shiksa) and 4) Ari Fleischer, former Bush spokes-liar and now a Chabadist-Lubavicher Rabbi. Fleischer doesn't wear the usual Chabadist attire nor grow his beard out, like the bunch (5) chumming it up with former Bush White House Chief of Staff, JoshUA Bolten (yep, another Jew). Fleischer must've had special dispensation so he can look Goyish on FOX Jew News.

####

It's all Jews and how they view the issues. It's their perspective and if you dare to see it any other way and have the temerity to speak openly, then out comes all the "Nazi" business. Not only with all us out here in sheep land, but also with the real White news people, too (or the rapidly increasing number of on-air Negro talking heads).

It's all a sham folks. All of this is a set-up to keep YOU from seeing THEM. Why? Well, if you cannot talk about the almighty Jews and what they do and want to do in the world, then that's what it is. All a distraction to keep you from asking the real questions. Questions they don't want you asking or even thinking.

And it's not only TV, people. These Jews are all over the media – top to bottom – writing stories and editorials in newspapers from the New York Times to your local rag. Magazines too: Newsweek, Time magazine and any of the political "organs" (weird Commie term). They might write about conservative or liberal topics, but pretty much every one of them protects Jewry and toes the Israeli, Zionist line.

Now, I'm certain that some of you who come here are yelling "he's a conspiracy nut!" and all that. If you read so far, then I want to thank you for at least that. But the majority of people who jump to this conclusion will not bother to hear me out any further – they want to live in the false world created for them by the Jew-controlled media. The very same media that stays silent about real things that makes this world much worse and possibly very dangerous to all of us in the near future.

It's dangerous because of what some of these people propose to do. The Iranians learned from the Jew's out-of-the-blue attack on the Osirik reactor that Saddam Hussein built in Iraq, so they buried everything underground, as well as spreading things out. To fully put a stop to it, they'll need to use tactical nuclear weapons. Anything less, will only be damaging and just serve to piss off the entire Muslim world and maybe even Russia and China.

Look, we don't want these kind of bald-faced liars telling us the news, always giving us the Jew perspective and leaving all kinds of stuff out. We don't want them hypocritically manipulating the religious thinking of people in the US, people that are already messed around with by the elite Jew liberals in the media. One would hope you can see all this and be willing to speak out about it to everyone you know.

Hell, maybe I will put in that nuclear bomb image after-all.

Jordanian, Egyptian and Lebanese Child Labor and Zionist Businessmen

By Haitham Sabbah

.

This might sound off-topic, but it is not and you will know why by reading until the end. Yet, it is so salient to every single one of us who are members of a global society.

As mentioned here, the US Department of Labor released their long-awaited report (PDF) on goods produced by "Child Labor" and "Forced Labor".

The list is a huge boon for consumers who want to choose slave-free products. At least one can decisively take action to prevent slavery in the production of consumer goods by holding companies and countries accountable for the slavery they use in making the goods we buy.

On the other hand, I was surprised to see Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon among the list of countries who use Child Labor and Forced Labor in making some goods that we buy.

The list of good per country is as follows:

Egypt: Cotton and Stones (limestone) — both Child Labor
Jordan: Garments — Forced Labor
Lebanon: Tobacco — Child Labor

Under international labor standards, Child Labor and Forced Labor are defined as:

"Child Labor" under international standards means all work performed by a person below the age of 15. It also includes all work performed by a person below the age of 18 in the following practices:

1. all forms of slavery or practices similar to slavery, such as the sale or trafficking of children, debt bondage and serfdom, or forced or compulsory labor, including forced or compulsory recruitment of children for use in armed conflict;
2. the use, procuring, or offering of a child for prostitution, for the production of pornography or for pornographic purposes;
3. the use, procuring, or offering of a child for illicit activities in particular for the production and trafficking of drugs; and
4. work which, by its nature or the circumstances in which it is carried out, is likely to harm the health, safety, or morals of children.
The work referred to in subparagraph (4) is determined by the laws, regulations, or competent authority of the country involved.

"Forced Labor" under international standards means all work or service which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty for its non-performance and for which the worker does not offer himself voluntarily, and includes indentured labor. "Forced Labor" includes work provided or obtained by force, fraud, or coercion, including:

1. by threats of serious harm to, or physical restraint against any person;
2. by means of any scheme, plan, or pattern intended to cause the person to believe that, if the person did not perform such labor or services, that person or another person would suffer serious harm or physical restraint; or
3. by means of the abuse or threatened abuse of law or the legal process.

This even made me more worried. I can understand the "Child Labor" in some areas due to extreme poverty, although this can't serve as an excuse for child labor, but "Forced Labor" and having that in JORDAN, it sounds like a stereotypical Hollywood movie about Arabs.

While I tend to doubt most (if not all) reports by official US agencies because of their hidden agendas, which are usually written carefully to meet certain objectives, which at the very least can be described as "blackmailing" governments and countries, however, I also believe that "there is no smoke without fire".

Now some facts. Garment factories in Jordan are many and well known to have a good number of laborers working in them. Most products and goods are made for export to the US and European markets. However, what most non-Jordanians don't know is that this industry has grown rapidly after the peace agreement between Jordan and Israel. I don't know the exact number of these factories around Jordan, but I know for sure that Israeli businessmen own and run most of them. The reason why Israelis opened these factories in Jordan is the "Cheap Labor", which any businessman will be hunting for around the world. But to turn this "cheap labor" to "forced labor" is a dangerous factor if it is true.

Now this sounds conflicting. Is it the Israeli-owned garment factories in Jordan which flagged Jordan to be listed in this report, or the few other Jordanian-owned factories, or both? And if it is the Israeli factories, should we believe that the report is so unbiased to list Jordan while they know that the factories are run with Israeli money? Or is it a typographical mistake by the agent who wrote the report and missed this part intentionally or due to ignorance? I personally tend to believe the last one.

In Jordan, we got used to accepting the term "Cheap Labor", but to turn that to something worse than slavery and making it "Forced Labor"? This is the last thing one can imagine to hear. But look for the cause…

I hope I'm wrong, but I also hope this opens door for investigations to get to the bottom of it and I'm sure Jordan will not accept to be included in this shameful list due to a crime done on its soil by inhuman businessmen such as the Israeli Zionist Jews. I know this will not be easy, but I'm also sure Jordan and Jordanians will not accept that their people (and other nationalities) work in such conditions, which is worse than slavery.

Interested investigators can start with the list of references at the end of the report (page 118-119) which can be downloaded from here (PDF).

[you saw this coming didn't you....]YouTube Partners with MOSSAD - ADL

Haitham Sabbah -

It seems that the days of using YouTube as #1 media to distribute documentaries, videos and presentations about the truth of Israel and Zionist and their horrific war-crimes history and terrorism profile, has come to an END.

Yesterday, it was announced that YouTube officially connected to the infamous ADL as partner to "Fight Against Hate."

NEW YORK, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — YouTube has reached out to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for its expertise in dealing with hate on the Internet. In one outgrowth of that partnership, the League is now a contributor to YouTube's newly launched Abuse & Safety Center, where users are empowered to identify and confront hate, and to report abuses.

The YouTube Abuse & Safety Center features information and links to resources developed by ADL to help Internet users respond to and report offensive material and extremist content that violates YouTube's Community Guidelines on hate speech. …

The YouTube Abuse & Safety Center was unveiled on December 11 at the annual conference of the Family Online Safety Institute in Washington D.C. and can be found at http://help.youtube.com/support/youtube/bin/request.py?contact_type=abuse.

I know it sounds too weird to believe, but that's the news. YouTube now has on-board one of the US’s domestic branches of Israel's intelligence service, the Mossad. The ADL, the Mossad’s most "professional" organization whose "speciality is spreading hate", are recruited as a professionals in the just struggle of "fighting against hate"?!

This partnership has many dimensions and should not be taken lightly.

1. As YouTube is one of the most viewed websites worldwide, controlling it means controlling the minds of hundreds of millions of its viewers. This is significant if we look at last year's YouTube report in which Harris Interactive said,

about 32 percent of frequent YouTube users are watching less TV as a result of the time they spend online. Of the frequent YouTube users, 66 percent claim they are sacrificing other activities when on YouTube, including other websites (36 percent), time spent watching TV (32 percent),…

It is also significant if we know that about 700,000 people do watch the YouTube concert at its peak. Imagine you are in control and show one pro-Zionist and anti-Arab/anti-Islam ad during the show.

A couple of days ago, in continuing its dominance of online video, Comscore announced these astonishing figures:

YouTube reached a record 99.5 million visitors in October, according to comScore. How dominant is that? The report indicates that, in total, 147 million people watched video online in the US during the month, meaning better than 2 in 3 watched it using a Google property. Overall, growth in online video remains robust, increasing 45 percent from last year to 13.5 billion total monthly views.

Knowing all the above facts and knowing what ADL stands for makes one 'feel sick to one’s stomach'. It means that hundreds of millions of Americans and others around the world are now going to be officially brainwashed by the Mossad and under censorship for everything they say, upload, document and view on YouTube.

2. From now on, you should expect that no more videos that are anti-Zionist, anti-Israel, anti-war and anti-war crimes to be shown for more than the few hours (if lucky enough) after you upload your video. Sooner or later - and the period depends how critical the video is - all will be tagged with the infamous "anti-Semitism" tag and will be removed, ultimately the user will be blocked and banned. In no time, YouTube will become the official oasis for Mossad, therefore, only the Zionist version of the story will be found and endorsed by the media that follows blindly. I regret to break this news to you, but from now on Israel controls the most influential and powerful alternative media. No more "Israel crimes" to be seen or found and only pro-Zionist, pro-Israel users will continue to control the media, not only conventional, but online.

3. No more 9-11 facts, especially these connected to Israel, and they are countless. These videos and documentaries were and still are, some of the most powerful eye openers for millions who would like and need to know the hidden facts behind 9-11. The same facts which the US puppet government tried to hide from its citizens and the world. Searching YouTube (at least now, before the ADL manages to remove them all) for Israel connection to 9-11 will reveal hundreds of hours of documentaries that no one should miss if s/he really cares to know the truth behind 9-11. "What are you doing putting this stuff out there? You're killing us!" These were the words of Abraham H. Foxman, Executive National Director of the infamous Anti-Defamation League. Foxman shouted this during a sit-down he demanded to have with an unnamed Fox News executive shortly after Sept. 11.

4. The "New Era" will flourish the anti-Arab, anti-Islam, anti-Christ, pro-Neocon and pro-Nazi videos. ADL is widely known for all the above and are specialized in it. Their history is full of cases that flip facts and spread hate. Who can forget that after Islam, Arab and anyone who criticizes the Zionist, it was the turn of Christ and Christians. Abraham H. Foxman (ADL National Director) once told Christians that they should deny part of the historical facts and rip out some parts of the Bible. In other words, change Christian faith so they are not labelled anti-Semitic! Another example of Foxman was slamming only Muslim Congressman.

Actions:

1. If you are a power user of YouTube and have the resources to do some technical stuff, download as much as you can of the videos you watched or bookmarked and upload somewhere else. I don't have any preferences, but BlipTV and DailyMotion looks good (I won't be surprised if these have links to Zionists too). Better is using and promoting some of the European or Arab video services.

2. Boycott YouTube! Yes, I don't see why we need YouTube. Hundreds of similar services are available and some actually offer more than what YouTube offers.
3. Promote other video websites. Regardless which one, any other service will be better and safer than putting your neck under Zionist knife.

Censorship all over the place

Needless to remind the reader that YouTube is a monster owned by the previously known-to-be-controlled-by-zionists, Google.

It was disturbing when we heard that Uruknet was removed from Google's news search index, but now Palestine Think Tank (PTT) has its own experience with Google censorship.

Like many other online news resources, PTT went through all the steps required by Google and applied to be indexed as one of the news resources covering Palestine. Unsurprisingly, our application was rejected for no reason. Following was the application conditions and Google news reply:

You are indeed mistaken:
We are a group of three content editors, who are clearly listed on the left bar. The side bar on the right clearly indicates regular contributors to the site, most of which contribute exclusively or in a first run basis to this site. There is contact information on the top bar of the menu, with four different contacts to select from. I urge you to look again, as the criteria for being a news site are all fulfilled.

It's pretty evident, it’s not the format that matters to them, it is the content, and the content has to be Google-friendly (Zionist-and now ADL-Friendly) to score with them. Even harder times for getting news and information out are up ahead. You have been warned. Now it’s up to you to fight back.

American woman from San Jose, CA, among 18 abducted at gunpoint in Gaza

Darlene Wallach, a human rights observer from San Jose, California, is among eighteen persons abducted off the coast of Gaza on November 18, 2008. The others are fellow human rights observers Andrew Muncie of Scotland and Vittorio Arrigoni of Italy, as well as fifteen Palestinian fishermen. All eighteen were fishing in Gaza waters in zones authorized for Palestinian fisherman by the Oslo agreements of 1993 and 1994. They were abducted at gunpoint by Israeli frogmen and taken to Israel, along with the fishing boats.

The fishermen were released and returned to Gaza, although their boats, which are their means of livelihood, are still being held. Israel is charging the three human rights observers with illegally entering Israel, and is making arrangements to deport them to their home countries.

The observers counter that they were forcibly taken to Israel and should be returned to Gaza. “We were never in Israel, and all of us were taken against our will and contrary to all agreements that Israel has signed,” says Wallach, 57, who was also arrested and deported from Israel in 2002 for participating in human rights advocacy in the Israeli occupied Palestinian West Bank region. “Israel claims that it no longer occupies Gaza, so what is it doing in Gaza waters, especially when there is no security threat at all?”

On August 23, 2008, Wallach, Muncie and Arrigoni were among 44 participants in the Free Gaza Movement who were aboard the first boats in forty-one years to enter Gaza by sea, breaking the Israeli blockade. They remained in Gaza to participate in human rights activities with the International Solidarity Movement. They are conducting a hunger strike in prison until Israel meets their demands to return them to Gaza and release the fishing boats.

Further information is available at www.freegaza.org and www.palsolidarity.org. Wallach, Muncie and Arrigoni can sometimes by reached by telephone in prison for press interviews. Interested parties are invited to contact the persons listed in this message.

Hiring CRIMINALS to guard planes!

Air Marshals: Undercover and Under Arrest
by Michael Grabell sourced from Sabbah

Shawn Nguyen bragged that he could sneak anything past airport security using his top-secret clearance as a federal air marshal. And for months, he smuggled cocaine and drug money onto flights across the country, boasting to an FBI informant that he was “the man with the golden badge.”

Michael McGowan used his position as an air marshal to lure a young boy to his hotel room, where he showed him child porn, took pictures of him naked and sexually abused him.

And when Brian “Cooter” Phelps wanted his ex-wife to disappear, he called a fellow air marshal and tried to hire a hit man nicknamed “the Crucifixer.”

Since 9/11, more than three dozen federal air marshals have been charged with crimes, and hundreds more have been accused of misconduct, an investigation by ProPublica, a non-profit journalism organization, has found. Cases range from drunken driving and domestic violence to aiding a human-trafficking ring and trying to smuggle explosives from Afghanistan.

The Federal Air Marshal Service presents the image of an elite undercover force charged with making split-second decisions that could mean the difference between stopping a terrorist and shooting an innocent passenger.

But an examination of police reports, court records, government reports, memos and e-mails shows that 18 air marshals have been charged with felonies, including at least three who were hired despite prior criminal records or being fired from law enforcement jobs. A fourth air marshal was hired while under FBI investigation. Another stayed on the job despite alarming a flight attendant with his behavior.

This spring, after U.S. embassies, airlines and foreign police agencies complained about air marshal misconduct overseas, the agency director dispatched supervisors on international missions.

From 33 to 3,000

Before 9/11, the Air Marshal Service was a nearly forgotten force of 33 agents with a $4.4 million annual budget. Now housed in the Transportation Security Administration, the agency has a $786 million budget and an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 air marshals, although the official number is classified.

Only a fraction of them have been charged with crimes, and some degree of misconduct occurs at all law enforcement agencies. But for air marshals, the stakes are uniquely high. Their beat is a confined cabin with hundreds of passengers in firing range. There are no calls for backup at 30,000 feet, putting a premium on sound judgment and swift action.

Since 9/11, air marshals have taken bribes, committed bank fraud, hired an escort while on layover and doctored hotel receipts to pad expenses, records show. They’ve been found sleeping on planes and lost the travel documents of U.S. diplomats while on a whiskey-tasting trip in Scotland.

The Air Marshal Service says it has the highest firearms qualification standard among federal law enforcement agencies. Yet police and court records show some marshals have used their weapons imprudently:

In 2003, a New York air marshal pulled his gun in a dispute over a parking space. Another failed to turn over his ammunition on an international trip, as required by diplomatic agreements, and was detained by Israeli airport security in 2004. That same year, a Las Vegas air marshal “discharged” his gun in a hotel room, penetrating a wall and shattering a mirror. In April, a Phoenix air marshal fired his during a fight outside a bar.

Still another left his handgun in the plane’s lavatory in 2001, according to court papers. He realized it was missing only after a teenager found it.

Robert Bray, director of the Air Marshal Service, says the misconduct cases don’t represent the exemplary work done by the vast majority of air marshals.

“We can reassure the public that these dedicated professionals go out there every day and put their lives on the line to make sure that everyone is safe,” Bray says. “I don’t want them to be tarred by … a few allegations from a few years ago.”

Bray and other officials declined to discuss specific cases, citing privacy laws.

Under government policies, air marshals found guilty of felonies were fired or forced to resign. But 10 air marshals convicted of misdemeanors, mostly drunken driving, were allowed to keep their jobs. And even after notice that background checks were poor, the agency failed to root out air marshals with troubled pasts before they committed felonies.

Current and former air marshals say the misconduct cases show that the agency continues to struggle with policing its own ranks, a problem that surfaced in its post-9/11 buildup. Since then, the service has had three leaders, been moved four times to different parent agencies and been blasted by Congress for, among other things, failing to cover enough flights and enforcing a dress code that many air marshals felt blew their cover.

Don Strange, the former special agent in charge of the Atlanta office and a finalist to lead the agency in 2006, says turmoil and low morale have led good air marshals to quit and made it harder for managers to maintain the highest standards.

“It starts with the urgency (to hire and train recruits) in a ridiculous amount of time,” he says. “Things start to spin out of control.”

Recruiting rush

Under heavy congressional pressure, the government rushed to hire thousands of air marshals after 9/11. Partly motivated by enduring images of planes hitting the World Trade Center, the Pentagon aflame and a charred Pennsylvania field, 200,000 applied. With limited spots, the Air Marshal Service had an acceptance rate of about one in 40 - four times as tough as Harvard’s.

“We’re getting the cream of the crop,” then-TSA spokesman David Steigman told reporters. “The people who are going into the air marshal program are the best of the best.”

But that wasn’t necessarily the case.

Shortly after joining the agency, three air marshals were indicted in corruption investigations at their former police departments. One, Louis Pirani, had been hired in early 2002, despite being under FBI investigation for months on suspicion of skimming profits from drug couriers as a sheriff’s deputy in Arkansas. He eventually was convicted and went to prison for lying to investigators.

Just two weeks after joining the air marshals in April 2002, Shawn Nguyen filed for bankruptcy, claiming $200,000 in debts. Three years later, the former narcotics officer began carrying cash and cocaine past airport security for a man he knew as a drug trafficker, but who’d already turned to the FBI.

“I don’t care what’s in the [expletive] package, you know what I mean? Just tell me how much it is and what I’m getting in money,” Nguyen told the informant in a recorded conversation recounted in court records. “I’m the man with the golden badge.” Nguyen was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Before becoming an air marshal, Brian Phelps had worked at five small police departments in Alabama, but none for more than a year. He was fired from the job he held longest for losing his temper and acting “irrationally” before thinking things through, prosecutors said. He quit another job in lieu of being fired for misconduct while on duty, says Mayor Paula Phillips of Douglas, Ala.

In 2005, Phelps, known as “Cooter” among fellow air marshals, told a colleague that he wanted to see his wife’s picture on a milk carton, court transcripts say. He asked the air marshal, who’d worked in Chicago’s housing projects, whether he knew of anyone who could help.

The colleague said he did: The Crucifixer. The colleague told the Air Marshal Service, and after numerous contacts with FBI agents posing as hit men, Phelps was arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Another air marshal, David Kellerman, was arrested on felony charges for dealing in stolen property in 1983 and for carrying a concealed weapon in 1990. Although judgment was withheld in both cases, Kellerman was sentenced each time to probation, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement records.

In September, Kellerman - a Green Beret and Purple Heart recipient - was sentenced to 27 months in prison after being caught hiding a cache of weapons that included AK-47s and a grenade launcher stolen while he was on leave for a military tour in Afghanistan. Kellerman told investigators he was bringing back training aids for his job as an air marshal firearms instructor.

Background checks

Because air marshals receive top-secret security clearances, background checks are supposed to include criminal history searches going back 10 years, credit reports and interviews with relatives, neighbors and employers. Checks are conducted by the federal Office of Personnel Management, a separate agency, which forwards results to the Air Marshal Service.

Kellerman’s charges predated the 10-year check period. But in Phelps’ case, three officials - Justice Ashley, former assistant police chief in Guntersville, Ala.; Chad Long, the current Douglas police chief, and Phillips - say they couldn’t recall the air marshals contacting anyone to make a background check. It’s unclear whether Pirani’s FBI scrutiny and Nguyen’s bankruptcy were missed or disregarded.

A 2004 report (PDF) by the Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general also flagged gaps in the background checks. The report cited 504 applicants who were recommended for hire and awaiting offers, noting that nearly a third had potentially disqualifying problems, including past arrests, bankruptcies or disciplinary problems.

“Many (air marshals) were granted access to classified information after displaying questionable judgment, irresponsibility and emotionally unstable behavior,” the report said.

This summer, after a Houston TV station reported that three air marshals had been charged with drunken driving, including one with a prior DWI conviction, Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, grilled TSA Administrator Kip Hawley at a congressional hearing.

In a subsequent letter to Poe, Hawley said that 28 air marshals had been hired with misdemeanors on their records, and nine more kept their jobs after a drunken-driving conviction.

TSA policies state that employees who drive drunk “demonstrate a disregard for TSA’s mission” and raise questions about their ability to deal with security threats. Yet the policy allows drunken driving to be punished with a letter of reprimand, one of the lowest penalties.

By comparison, the FBI mandates at least a 30-day suspension without pay for drunken driving. Although other federal police agencies generally allow for flexibility in discipline, many big-city departments, such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, mandate a suspension or loss of pay for a first offense.

“It’s more serious than a letter saying, ‘Don’t do it again, try to do better,’ ” Poe said in an interview. “I don’t think a person should have a criminal record and keep their job with the Air Marshal Service - including a DWI.”

The flying public agrees. In a national survey for ProPublica conducted by Harris Interactive, 86% of those who’d taken a commercial flight in the past year said it was unacceptable for someone convicted of driving under the influence to become an air marshal. (Check out the complete results (PDF).)

No office compiles uniform statistics on arrests of federal law officers, making it difficult to compare agencies. The 2004 inspector general’s report (PDF) found 753 documented cases of misconduct by air marshals over 20 months, with offenses from sleeping on duty to flunking drug tests.

After the report, the agency said it tightened its background procedures. When misconduct occurred, the agency said, it had acted “swiftly and decisively,” terminating 101 air marshals over two years and taking resignations from 32 others.

But problems continued - Kellerman, Phelps and Nguyen all committed their crimes after the 2004 report. The service declined to say what’s been done since to check for cases that fell through the cracks.

Hiring standards erode

Over the years, the service has loosened some hiring practices:

* In 2002, the agency decided that recruits no longer had to pass a rigorous firearms test requiring them to prove speed and accuracy in close quarters similar to an airplane. The test is still used in training but is no longer a hiring qualification.

* In late 2005, the agency began hiring TSA screeners, new college grads and others with no law enforcement experience. The change departed from practice during the 9/11 ramp-up, when air marshals almost uniformly were chosen from law enforcement, such as the Border Patrol, federal Bureau of Prisons and police and sheriff’s departments.

* Two years ago, officials suspended a requirement that air marshals pass a written psychological test and an interview with a psychologist or psychiatrist. Bray, the director, says the changes did not lower hiring standards and that it’s unfair to suggest a TSA screener or a recent college grad could not be up to par after training.

The Air Marshal Service still has the highest standard for shooting accuracy among federal police agencies, he says.

In the ProPublica survey, 87% said air marshals should be required to pass a psychological stress test, and 77% said they should have prior experience in law enforcement.

Two cases show why psychological testing might be valuable.

Orlando air marshal Marcus Rogozinski was on a mission from New York to Dallas in 2006 when he walked to the galley and showed a flight attendant a book with some pictures of blue crystals, his supervisor, Richard Lozada, wrote in an e-mail introduced at a competency hearing

If she had good thoughts, Rogozinski told her, the water could be turned clear, Lozada recounted. But if she had bad thoughts, it would turn murky.

When Rogozinski went to the lavatory, the alarmed flight attendant walked back to his partner, Paul Steward.

“I can’t believe he is able to carry a gun!” she said, according to an account written by Steward.

In 2007, another flight attendant complained that Rogozinski “was talking about all kinds of crazy stuff like outer space,” according to a memo from air marshal David Cameron.

“No (air marshal) should have to pay more attention to their partner than to the passengers,” Cameron wrote. Afterward, Rogozinski failed a psych exam and was put on leave.

In June, Rogozinski was convicted of bank fraud for trying to cash a $10.9 million check from a woman he said he believed was Cambodian royalty. The money, he told prosecutors, was partial settlement for a “personal lawsuit” after he was scratched by the woman’s cat.

Then there’s the case of Michael McGowan, who joined the air marshals after 9/11. Before he was sentenced to a sex-offenders unit in 2006, his lawyer pleaded with a judge for help for his client. “He is taking the position ‘I have a serious problem, I’m sick,’ ” said attorney Joel Weiss, according to a court transcript.

McGowan had been caught two years earlier trying to buy pornography of children as young as 7 over the Internet. Investigators discovered he’d been molesting a Texas boy since 2002 and had enticed the boy by saying he was staying at a nearby hotel on air marshal business.

Even after his conviction, court records show, McGowan called the boy from prison and engaged him in sexual conversations.

‘Impact on our reputation’

Earlier this year, a rash of complaints about air marshal misconduct on overseas missions set off new alarms.

The agency would not provide details of the incidents. But ProPublica obtained an April 15 internal memo from Dana Brown, then director of the Air Marshal Service, warning the rank and file that the behavior threatened to create diplomatic problems for the agency on international routes, “some of the most important we fly.”

“In foreign countries, some have behaved in a manner that may jeopardize our ability to continue to operate effectively,” Brown wrote. “The negative impact on our reputation and that of the American government has the potential to cause significant harm.”

To put a stop to it, Brown ordered “Quality Assurance Teams” of supervisors to monitor air marshals on international missions and act as liaisons with host countries.

“These are highly trained federal air marshals with guns on planes. If they need chaperones, then we’re all in serious trouble,” says P. Jeffrey Black, a Las Vegas air marshal who in the past has testified before Congress about agency policies.

Bray says the agency was not able to substantiate the allegations of overseas misconduct and that Brown was simply being proactive.

Black says the job shouldn’t be entry-level. New hires need the experience and judgment learned from making decisions on the street, he says.

Poe, a former judge and prosecutor who sits on the House aviation subcommittee, says the unique nature of the job demands the highest recruiting standards. He says he wants to address the issue of air marshal misconduct further when the new Congress is seated next year.

Air marshals “all have to be of high quality, not most of them,” Poe says. “We can’t take a chance that they will make a mistake.”

Six of Cincinnati air marshal David Slaughter’s colleagues wrote character references for him after his arrest in 2006, according to court records.

“A man of impeccable character,” wrote one. “An outstanding employee.” “Polite,” wrote another. “His character around the office is one of example.” “Dave’s demeanor and professionalism reflect favorably on the field office as well as the agency as a whole.”

Slaughter was convicted of abducting a female escort during a July 2006 layover in the Washington, D.C., area.

In an interview, he said he hired the escort because he was having marital problems and wanted a woman’s perspective. As they talked about how to spend their time, he went into the bedroom of his hotel suite and returned with his gun and handcuffs. The woman tried to flee, but he prevented her from leaving and unplugged the phone, prosecutors said.

The two struggled, and when the woman got the door open, Slaughter pinned her to the ground, held her in a chokehold and handcuffed her, according to prosecutors and the woman, Cherith Zorbas.

Despite his colleagues’ support, Slaughter lost his job and got 15 days in jail. Zorbas called the outcome “horrific” and said the public should be scared.

“He’s the only one on an airplane with a freakin’ weapon,” she said, “and he’s supposed to have it to be protecting us.”

Khalid Amayreh - Europe should speak to Hamas now

Khalid Amayreh - Europe should speak to Hamas now

By Khalid Amayreh

There is no doubt that Hamas, the main Palestinian Islamic movement, is becoming more rational, more pragmatic and more moderate, at least in comparison to its formative years. This is why it is imperative that member-States of the European Union (EU) either collectively or individually should initiate a meaningful dialogue with Hamas as soon as possible. Needless to say, such a dialogue would be expedient to all parties involved as well as to the cause of peace and stability in the Middle East.

Israel, along with her guardian-ally, the United States, and the bulk of EU States, sought to destroy Hamas by imposing an especially harsh blockade on occupied Palestine following Hamas’s electoral victory in 2006.

This harsh blockade assumed draconian proportions after Palestinian guerillas captured an Israeli soldier during a cross-border operation in order to use him as a bargaining chip to force Israel to release some Palestinian prisoners (and hostages) languishing in Israeli jails and detention centres.

Israel holds as many as 10,000 Palestinian prisoners-many of them are political leaders, including over 40 lawmakers, former cabinet ministers and other elected officials whom the Israeli occupation army later abducted to force Hamas to free the captive soldier.

In addition, the Israeli army carried out a sustained military onslaught on the Gaza Strip, killing and maiming thousands of people, including many civilians.

Israel calculated that the harsh blockade, a humanitarian disaster by any stretch of the imagination, along with the sustained “military pressure” would eventually prompt Gazans to revolt against the Hamas government and bring it down.

However, the Israeli designs proved to be unworkable as Hamas proved to be more resilient and more tenacious than previously thought.

Cease-fire

In mid-June, 2008, Israel and Hamas reached a de-facto ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Egyptian-mediated agreement put an end to the erstwhile daily Israeli attacks and incursions against Gaza, as well as to the firing of home-made projectiles from the coastal enclave on Israeli settlements across the borders.

Among other things, the agreement stipulated the reopening of the Rafah border crossing as well as the gradual lifting of the two-year-old economic blockade of Gaza, which brought many of the territory’s estimated 1.5 million inhabitants to the brink of starvation.

And while Israel generally suspended its military incursions and assassination operations in Gaza but not in the West Bank, the Gaza Strip effectively remained a blockaded and besieged territory, with the Israeli army allowing only small amounts of consumer products and other vital commodities to go through.

However, despite the effective “reneging” by Israel on its commitments under the terms of the Egyptian-mediated cease-fire agreement, as well as the Egyptian refusal to reopen the Rafah border crossing, the Gaza Strip’s main available conduit to the outside world, Hamas nearly continued to meticulously observe the cease-fire.

To be sure, some non-conformist elements, ostensibly affiliated with the Fateh organization and probably the Islamic Jihad group as well, continued to occasionally fire home-made missiles across the borders into Israel.

Hamas, however, continued to make utmost and ostensibly sincere efforts to control and even punish violators, with Hamas leaders arguing that breaking the cease-fire undermines Palestinian national interests. Indeed, in July 2008, Mahmoud al-Zahar, one of Hamas’s hard-line leaders in Gaza, called individuals and groups seeking the collapse of the cease-fire “Israeli agents.”

Nonetheless, the cease-fire is still holding and is even being consolidated as testified by Shin Bet Chief Yuval Diskin who had opposed the cease-fire. (it is now Israel not Hamas that is violating the ceasefire by renewing the murderous aggressions).

Undoubtedly, the fact that the cease-fire is holding despite the persistence of the Israeli-imposed siege and the continuation of the “anomalous conditions in Gaza” shows that Hamas is a disciplined movement and one that respects its commitments.

Unfortunately, the West, including the EU, has overlooked this positive variable, which really doesn’t help the cause of moderation in Palestine.

To be sure, the cease-fire in Gaza was not an altruistic act, neither by Israel nor by Hamas. The nearly daily firing from the Gaza Strip of the home-made Qassam missiles and other projectiles on Israeli population centres has seriously disturbed the daily life of Israelis in border towns in the Gaza vicinity.

This eventually led to intensive public pressure exerted on the Israeli government and army to reach a cease-fire with Hamas. Egypt, with which maintaining the peace is a paramount Israeli strategic interest, had also blamed Israel for the continued violence, citing Israeli refusal to stop the disproportionately deadlier Israeli violence against Gazans while demanding a unilateral cease-fire from the Palestinian side.

On the Palestinian side, there is a widespread belief that Fateh was seriously disappointed by the conclusion of the cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

True, Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas supported the cease-fire. However, influential Fateh elements based in Ramallah, including some Fateh leaders who had fled Gaza following the mid-June 2007 events in the coatal enclave, didn’t like the agreement, to put it very mildly.

Some of these leaders had hoped that Israel would invade and overrun Gaza, assassinate or arrest key Hamas leaders and then hand over the coastal territory to Fateh on a silver platter. Hence, the disappointment.

Hamas vs. al Qaida

Many in the West continue to hold the erroneous view that Hamas and al-Qaida are two sides of the same coin.

However, this view, largely shaped by intensive Israeli propaganda, is inaccurate. In fact, Hamas’s world view and ideology differ significantly from al-Qaida’s world view and ideology.

Ideologically, Hamas follows the relatively moderate school of the Muslim Brotherhood, which advocates peaceful means, not violence, in effecting change in Islamic societies.

In contrast, al-Qaida adopts a school of thought called “Madrasat al-Fikr al-Salafi al-Jihadi” or “the School of the Fighting Salafi ideology.” (A Salafi is a person who follows the true, authentic way of the Prophet Muhammed and his immediate successors and early followers.)

Hamas adopts the principle of gradualness, both with regard to the creation of an Islamic society and an Islamic State. Al-Qaida, however, strongly rejects this methodology and dismisses the concept of truce or coexistence with the enemy as incompatible with the Shariah or inexpedient to the cause of Islam.

Hamas believes in the principle of political participation and effecting change through direct involvement in the political system, as evident from Hamas’s participation in the 2006 Palestinian legislative elections. Hamas also is committed to democratic governing principles and Hamas officials are held to standards set by constituent groups that are representative of a broad-based polity.

Al-Qaida, on the other hand, explicitly prohibits any participation in parliamentary or other elections on the grounds that the entire system is “kafir,” e.g. run by secularists or un-Islamists.

Finally, Hamas rejects the principle of using violence against Arab and Muslim societies. Indeed, unlike al-Qaida, Hamas recognizes and calculates the actual balance of power in its struggle and does all it can to retain its means of resistance and maintain its survival as a movement. Hamas has a tactical policy based on the neutralization of as many potential enemies as possible, and tries to build friendly relationships with as many potential friends as possible.

As to attacks on Israeli civilians, Hamas actually never considered such attacks a “general policy.” Indeed, Hamas’s leaders have always argued that the obviously deadlier Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians, which have killed thousands of civilians, left Hamas with no choice but to respond in kind.

Hamas strongly rejected the Israeli claim that the Israeli army doesn’t target Palestinian civilians deliberately, arguing rather reasonably that killing knowingly is killing deliberately and that when the number of civilian victims is so high, as in the Palestinian case, even intent itself becomes irrelevant.

Non-recognition of Israel

Hamas’s adamant refusal to recognize the legitimacy of the IsraeliState is undoubtedly the main factor impeding Western recognition and normalization with the Islamic group.

However, this European attitude seems to have more to do with a European desire to appease Israel than with genuine moral considerations. After all, Europe has always had and continues to have more or less normal relations with States and entities that don’t recognize Israel.

Moreover, it is abundantly clear that European insistence that Hamas recognize the legitimacy of Zionism as a pre-condition for any rapprochement with the Palestinian Islamic movement is counterproductive and even futile.

Hamas has explained on numerous occasions that it can’t recognize “Israel’s legitimacy” for moral, religious and historical reasons.

Indeed, Hamas believes that recognition of Israel is tantamount to “conversion to Zionism.”

Some Hamas leaders whom this writer had interviewed argued that recognition of Israel would imply an acceptance of the Zionist national narrative, namely that Palestine has always been a Jewish homeland and that 14 centuries of nearly uninterrupted Palestinian-Arab-Islamic presence in Palestine was a foreign colonization.

This, argued Aziz Duweik (Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, who is now imprisoned in Israel for his affiliation with Hamas), is tantamount to demanding that Palestinians embrace Zionism and bless the ethnic cleansing of the bulk of the Palestinian people at the hands of Israel.

“We are not going to become Muslim Zionists just to obtain a certificate of good conduct from Israel and the West,” Duweik told this writer.

Moreover, Hamas’s leaders have come to believe that the issue of recognizing Israel is a “red herring,” used by Israeli propagandists to justify their ongoing colonization and settlement-building in Palestine. The PLO’s recognition of Israel, they argue, didn’t lead to Israel ending its military occupation, so why should Hamas now fall into the same trap as the PLO did?

There is another important hurdle that makes Hamas’s recognition of Israel even more unlikely. Israel, especially of late, has been demanding that Palestinians and Arabs recognize it as a Jewish State, or even a State of the Jews.

Hence, Palestinians are rightly worried that lending such recognition to Israel could be used to justify increased institutionalized discrimination against Israel’s 1.4 million Palestinians who are Israeli citizens.

More to the point, Israel could use the “Jewish-State concept) to preclude the return of any significant numbers of Palestinian refugees who fled or were forced to flee their homes when Israel was created more than 60 years ago.

It is important though to remember that Hamas doesn’t believe that the alternative to its non-recognition of Israel must be perpetual confrontation of the Jewish State.

On several occasions, Hamas founder, Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, proposed a lengthy hudna or truce with Israel in exchange for total Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories, releasing all Palestinian prisoners and dealing seriously with the right of return of Palestinian refugees pursuant to United Nations resolution 194. Recently, some Hamas leaders, particularly in the West Bank, have sought to upgrade the concept of sulh (extended peace bound by time limitations) into a virtually open-ended peace, something that would look very much like a formal peace treaty.

Finally, Hamas in 2006 did accept the “national reconciliation accord,” which is based on the so-called “prisoner document” formulated by the leaders of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

That document gave Israel tacit recognition in return for total Israeli withdrawal from the territories occupied in 1967, including all of East Jerusalem, and an equitable resolution of the refugee problem based on UN resolution 194.

Conclusion

Hamas doesn’t pose a strategic threat to Israel, a formidable nuclear power that possesses one of the strongest armies in the world and which also controls to a large extent the politics and policies of the United States.

However, there is no doubt that without incorporating Hamas into genuine peace efforts based on the principles of justice and international law, the prospects for a true breakthrough toward peace in the Middle East will remain uncertain if not precarious.

Moreover, the continued isolation and hounding of Hamas could eventually prove to be disastrous for the cause of peace and for Europe’s relations with the Muslim world.

Indeed, a weakened Hamas is unlikely to translate into a “strengthened Fateh” as many short-sighted Western experts might think. The real alternative to Hamas would be al-Qaida and like-minded extremist groups.

It is for these and other reasons that Europe should immediately enter into a real dialogue with Hamas and lift all its sanctions against the Gaza Strip. Such a step, which would require a certain degree of European emancipation from subservience to the United States and Israel, could eventually be proven a tremendous stride toward peace in the Middle East.
