FOXMAN OVERLOOKED THE FACT THAT ISRAEL DEMONIZES ITSELF …. WHY ISN’T IT ON HIS S H I T LIST?

Abe Foxman has been preoccupied listing the enemiesof his precious Israel, but he overlooked it's biggest enemy ...

I'm thinking maybe it's time Israel had a list of its own.

Demonizers of Israel: De-legitimization begins at home

What if Israel's worst enemy is right here, part of the family, abusive and ill-willed, immune and shielded, destructive and pleased with the fact?

By Bradley Burston
*
What if your worst enemy is the one you can do nothing about?
What if your worst enemy is right here at home, part of the family, abusive and ill-willed, immune and shielded, destructive and pleased with the fact?
What if you were Israel and you had myriad layers of defense, among the most sophisticated in the world, against aircraft, missiles, suicide bombers, cyber warfare – but there were still a hole in the fence nobody seems to be able to find a way to fix?
What if you were Israel and there were people in your midst whose words and actions posed genuine threats to your vital interests, your image in the eyes of allies, to your international standing, yet year by year, these people only gained more power, grew in visibility, were named to posts of greater and greater responsibility?
Why do I ask?
The Anti-Defamation League this week released its 2013 list of what it determined were the top 10 most influential and active anti-Israel groups in the United States.
According to ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman, “The groups are fixated on delegitimizing Israel and convincing the American public that Israel is an international villain that deserves to be ostracized and isolated.”
Ever since the list came out, I've been seeing the news here in Israel a little differently. Without debating his choices, let's say that Foxman is right in characterizing what does signal harm to Israel, that most significantly delegitimizes and demonizes it in words and actions.
I'm thinking maybe it's time Israel had a list of its own. Here's the beginning of mine. Just the beginning:
THE ACCUSATION: Israel is, at root, a dictatorship dominated by a far-right core minority opposed to any and all compromise with the Palestinians, and opposed to any and all democratic processes which could allow for such a peace process to go forward.
THE DEMONIZERS: The cabinet's Ministerial Committee on Legislation, which gave a green light Sunday to a bill which would make even the onset of any negotiations over the future of Jerusalem subject to the approval of 80 members of the 120-strong Knesset – to all observers, an impossible majority to achieve.
To those who asked, in sarcasm, why the bill did not require a unanimous vote, there was this reply by Naftali Bennett of the settler-anchored coalition partner party Habayit Hayehudi:"Even 120 Knesset members cannot transfer [parts of Jerusalem], because it belongs to the Jewish people throughout the generations."
THE ACCUSATION: From its very inception, Israel has been a racist state, practicing institutionalized segregation, favoring the ruling minority, and hewing to what is in essence a form of apartheid even within its pre-1967 borders.
THE DEMONIZERS: Deposed Nazareth mayor and current mayoral candidate Shimon Gapso
["Upper Nazareth is a Jewish city and it’s important that it remain so. If that makes me a racist, then I’m a proud offshoot of a glorious dynasty of 'racists' including 'the racist Theodore Herzl,' 'the racist Ben-Gurion' and the 'racially pure kibbutzim without a single Arab member and an army which protects a certain racial strain.']
Likud MK Miri Regev, who endorsed Gapso at a weekend re-election rally [she hoped Gapso “would be elected big-time, despite the detractors.”] Last year, Regev called African migrants to Israel "a cancer in our body," later apologizing – but only to cancer sufferers.
THE ACCUSATION: Israel is a tattered, sham democracy, and the government is determined to excise what is left of it.
THE DEMONIZERS: Ruling coalition whip Yariv Levin (Likud) and MK Ayelet Shaked (Habayit Hayehudi), for promoting a series of bills aimed at limiting the independence and influence of the judiciary, the one branch of government still viewed as adhering to the concept of separation of powers. "Naturally, the media is in a hurry to depict us as fascists who go against the rule of law," Shaked said this week. "I suggest we be judged based on our actions."
Good idea.
I recognize that these actions and provocations were not undertaken to harm Israel. For the politicians, their purpose was to make headlines, to spur hefty contributions by far-right donors abroad, and to gain key support of the extremists who have hijacked key institutions like the Likud Central Committee.
I recognize, also, that there has never been a Knesset like this one. There has never been an Israeli ruling coalition like this one. Never before has there been more legitimacy conferred on opponents of democracy, proponents of theocracy, apologists for racism, proponents of racism.
For that reason, perhaps, the list goes on and on – take, for example, the settlers unimpeded as they take chain saws to Palestinian-owned olive groves just as the harvest begins. Or the ways the government seems to confirm the accusation that peace talks are just a smokescreen to allow more and more and more settlement.
Perhaps for the same reason, the government has made huge investments in what it calls "Israel branding" – according toone study, in 2010 the Foreign Ministry budget for "marketing and hasbara" – Israel branding – went from NIS 10 million to NIS 100 million.
However it invests its money, though, the lesson being taught by the current government remains a different one: For good or ill, the only branding that matters will stem directly from what Israel does, what Israel is, and the direction its leaders - and voters - choose to take us – toward a better future, or a cliff.

Foxman to US Christian leaders: Interfaith Dialogue Means Shut Up About Israeli Crimes

Inter-faith dialogue, anybody? Yeah, keep the gullible talking…

But some US churchmen now want action

I wonder if  and his mates ever read the Scottish poet Rabbie Burns… especially this verse from ‘To a Louse’ (1785)…
O wad some Pow’r the giftie gie us
To see oursels as ithers see us
It wad frae monie a blunder free us
An’ foolish notion
What airs in dress an’ gait wad lea’e us
An’ ev’n Devotion
Translation…
Oh, that God would give us the ability
To see ourselves as others see us
It would save us from many a mistake
and foolish thought
We’d change the way we look and act
and what we devote our time to.
Over here in the UK we are faintly amused at the way Foxman and his Anti-Defamation League () throw their weight around and bully anyone who dares criticise the Israeli regime or question the rate at which it consumes American aid dollars to fund its illegal occupation of the Holy Land.
The ADL was founded in 1913 with the worthy aim “to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure justice and fair treatment to all”.  Today, nearly 100 years later, Foxman is its National Director and probably the loudest voice in the ‘hasbara’ (i.e. pro-propaganda) firmament.
And today, after a century of talk of “fair treatment for all”, the Palestinians find themselves in desperate need of a Defence League of their own to stop the defamation of Palestinians by Foxman’s friends, to secure even a small crumb of justice and fair treatment, and to get their lands and homes and natural resources, stolen by Jewish terrorists and Israeli uniformed thugs, restored to them.
But that won’t happen if people like Foxman continue to have their way. We’ve just been treated to the spectacle of him berating fifteen , who represent many major faith groups in the US, for writing a letter to Congress asking for closer scrutiny of the massive flow of US military aid to Israel and measures to ensure compliance with US laws and policies.
“We urge an immediate investigation,” they said, “into possible violations by Israel of the US Foreign Assistance Act and the US Arms Export Control Act which respectively prohibit assistance to any country which engages in a consistent pattern of human rights violations and limit the use of US weapons to ‘internal security’ or ‘legitimate self-defense’.
“More broadly, we urge Congress to undertake careful scrutiny to ensure that our aid is not supporting actions by the government of Israel that undermine prospects for peace. We urge Congress to hold hearings to examine Israel’s compliance, and we request regular reporting on compliance and the withholding of military aid for non-compliance.”
Making sure one’s tax dollars aren’t misused is a perfectly proper thing to do, surely. But it caused Foxman and Co to take umbrage and go into a major sulk.
The ADL immediately issued a press release announcing they were pulling out of national Jewish-Christian interfaith dialogue scheduled for October 22 in response to “a serious breach of trust” by mainline Protestant Church leaders. “Some of the Protestant leaders who were scheduled to be dialogue participants sent an outrageous and biased letter to members of Congress on October 5, accusing Israel of human rights violations against Palestinians and calling for a re-evaluation of US foreign aid to Israel.”
Foxman said: “In light of the failure of any of the church leaders to reach out to us, we have decided not to attend this interfaith meeting, The blatant lack of sensitivity by the Protestant dialogue partners we had been planning to meet with has seriously damaged the foundation for mutual respect, which is essential for meaningful interfaith dialogue.”
Those living in the Holy Land under the Israeli jackboot will be surprised to hear that “sensitivity” and “respect” are actually in the Zionist lexicon.
Foxman then called on other Jewish organizations to respond to the “disrespect the American Jewish community is being shown” by also withdrawing from the interfaith gathering.
Many would say good riddance. Does the ADL sound like the sort of organizationChristians and Muslims could confidently sit down with and make useful progress?
Only a few months before, Foxman was vilifying the Kairos  Document and the US Christians who had written their own document supporting it. He said it was “part of an anti-Israel initiative” and called it “a deeply cynical and biased response to the already seriously flawed original Kairos document”, “a flagrantly one-sided, anti-Israel diatribe” and “a poison pill for Christian-Jewish relations”.
The ADL claimed that the original 2009 Kairos Document was “a toxic mix of bad history, politically motivated distortions and dangerous religious and theological attacks against Judaism and Israel.  It included the heinous charge that some of Israel’s actions toward the Palestinians are ‘a sin against God’”.
Only a sin against God? Israel’s crime-sheet is regarded in many quarters as much worse than that.
In his condemnation of this new US document, ‘A Call to Action’, Foxman declared it antithetical to peacemaking. “We call on all people of good will, religious and non-religious, to reject the blatantly biased Kairos USA and join with those in the Jewish-Christian interfaith community working towards a balanced and accurate understanding of the issues, and promoting positive alternatives for a secure and fair peace for Israelis and Palestinians.”
The US proponents of Kairos, he said, “are doing a monumental disservice to those truly interested in bringing peace between the Israelis and Palestinians”.
As all sensible people realise, there can be no peace while the occupation continues. Nothing useful will be achieved until international law is enforced and UN resolutions implemented. So who, I wonder, are these upright inter-faith people who are “truly interested” in bringing peace as opposed to perpetuating the occupation, and how will they do it?
Kairos USA is a movement of US Christians who believe the time is right for decisive action to end the crisis in Israel and Palestine. It seems they’ve had enough of  time-wasting inter-faith claptrap. The Kairos US document actually says…
A just and sustainable peace in Israel and Palestine depends on a political solution based on justice and fairness. We hold our own government largely responsible for the continuation of conflict and suffering on the part of both Palestinians and Israelis because the conditions that stand in the way of such a peace are financed and diplomatically protected by our government. We therefore urge Christians in the United States to advocate with our government for a foreign policy that demonstrates a commitment to justice for Palestinians and to a sustainable peace for all the peoples of the land.
Sponsored by:
We believe strongly in the value of interfaith dialogue and reconciliation. But we acknowledge with sadness and distress that because of the powerful impulse on the part of Christiansto atone for their sins against the Jewish people, vigilance against anti-Semitism today has come to trump working for justice in Palestine and Israel. The Christian need to rectify centuries of anti-Jewish doctrine and actions and to avoid even the perception of anti-Jewish feeling has served to silence criticism of Israel’s policies and any questioning of the consequences of U.S. government support for Israel. Differences between anti-Semitism and legitimate opposition to Israeli actions are avoided or explained away. Responsible discourse about  is often denounced as hostility toward Israel and its citizens or branded as anti-Semitism.
Of course, they speak from an American perspective. Why Christians should feel any impulse to atone for sins against the Jewish people, I don’t know. What sins anyway?
Let them stew
All the airy-fairy chit-chat is simply an extension of the Zionists’ lopsided ‘peace process’ and just as fruitless. The purpose is to create the illusion of progress while they carry on abusing and dispossessing their weak and helpless peace ‘partner’. There is not, and never has been, the slightest intention on the part of Israel to make peace – at least, not until they’ve stolen everything they want and established irreversible facts on the ground to render a viable and independent Palestinian state impossible.
So yeah, keep the gullible Christians talking…
But, suddenly, along come Kairos USA, and the fifteen US church leaders, to prick the Zionists’ pretty balloon. And the ADL goes ballistic.
Here in the UK we have something similar to the ADL. It’s called The Board of Deputies of British Jews.
It claims to serve and promote the interests of the Jewish community in the UK, but goes far beyond this. “The Board remains unwavering in its approach, as stated in our Constitution, to take ‘such appropriate action as lies within its power to advance Israel’s security, welfare and standing’…  The Board lobbies and campaigns on security issues such as the threat from a nuclear Iran… An existential threat to Israel is the continued attempts to deny its legitimacy, something which the Board combats through BUYcotts, correspondence with the media and lobbying at the political level… We concentrate on the undoubted effect of events in the region on the British Jewish community, and the importance of Israel being treated fairly and impartially within British society, in the face of campaigns to demonise, boycott and sanction the Jewish State.”
When the British Methodists submitted a report ‘Justice for Palestine and Israel’ to their Conference, the Board of Deputies got quite obnoxious. The report’s perfectly reasonable recommendations included the following…
“In listening to Church Leaders and our fellow-Christians in Israel Palestine as well as leaders of Palestinian civil society we hear an increasing consensus calling for the imposition of boycott, divestment and sanctions as a major strategy of non-violent resistance to the Occupation. The Conference notes the call of the WCC [World Council of Churches] in 2009 for an ‘international boycott of settlement produce and services’ and calls on the Methodist people to support and engage with this boycott of Israeli goods emanating from illegal settlements (some Methodists would advocate a total boycott of Israeli goods until the Occupation ends).”
It also said that the Methodist Church had consistently expressed its concern over the illegal Occupation of Palestinian lands by the State of Israel, and that its continuation not only compounded Israel’s illegal and immoral action but also made any accommodation with the Palestinian people and future peace in the region less likely.
The Chief Rabbi declared the report “unbalanced, factually and historically flawed” without saying in what way it was inaccurate. And he warned that the implications would “reverberate across the hitherto harmonious relationship between the faith communities in the UK”.
The Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council said the authors of the report had “abused the goodwill of the Jewish community”. Here is their full text:
“This is a very sad day, both for Jewish-Methodist relations and for everyone who wants to see positive engagement with the complex issues of Israeli-Palestinian relations. The Methodist Conference has swallowed hook, line and sinker a report full of basic historical inaccuracies, deliberate misrepresentations and distortions of Jewish theology and Israeli policy. The deeply flawed report is symptomatic of a biased process: The working group which wrote the report had already formed its conclusions at the outset. External readers were brought in to give the process a veneer of impartiality, but their criticisms were rejected. The report’s authors have abused the trust of ordinary members of the Methodist Church, who assumed that they were reading and voting on an impartial and comprehensive paper, and they have abused the goodwill of the Jewish community, which tried to engage with this issue, only to find that our efforts were treated as an unwelcome distraction.
“This outcome is extremely serious and damaging, as we and others have explained repeatedly over recent weeks. Israel is at the root of the identity of Jews and of Judaism, and as an expression of Jewish spiritual, national and emotional aspirations, Zionism cannot simply be ruled as illegitimate in the way that the Methodist Conference has purported to do. This smacks of breathtaking insensitivity, as crass as it is misinformed. That this position should now form the basis of Methodist Church policy should cause the Conference to hang its head in shame, just as surely as it will cause the enemies of peace and reconciliation to cheer from the sidelines.”
What a silly outburst. This is the language of division not harmony. It is designed to widen the gulf not close it. Ratcheting up the tension perpetuates the uneven struggle for freedom, and that suits them just fine. For decades the “goodwill” of the Jewish community has counted for nothing in securing justice for the Palestinians and bringing to an end their misery at the hands of the State if Israel. Who are they to talk of “breathtaking insensitivity”?
Again, are these the sort of people Muslims and Christians could ever have any meaningful dialogue with? Perhaps it’s time the Chief Rabbi’s “implications” did indeed “reverberate” across the faith communities, not only in the UK but around the world including (and especially) the United States.
Disengage. Let them stew…. at least until they see themselves as others see them.

Abe Foxman is one of the Devil's Inflamed Hemorrhoids

Let’s face it (with averted, horrified eyes) Abe Foxman is a major player in the infernal kingdom. I toyed with some other illustrations; dead skunk in the middle of the road. The idea had promise. Abe smells at least that bad and he is dead. He’s dead to all human qualities, which makes him sort of like the undead that you see in those zombie films except, he would have to be a dung golem wouldn’t he? Then I considered he might be one of the devil’s butt hairs but I can’t see the devil wasting the kind of nasty talent he has invested in Abe on something as pedestrian as a butt hair. No… when I thought about hemorrhoids, something just clicked. My understanding of hemorrhoids, I don’t have any but… my understanding is that they itch and burn and are really annoying and no one really wants one in their private places. All that dovetailed perfectly with how I understand Abe Foxman. As I read on, I realized that this is what Abe is but… not just any hemorrhoid; One of the devil’s hemorrhoids.

Now the Zionist Occupied Government of America has dropped their case against the AIPAC spies. Larry Franklin went to prison for this but you can’t put AIPAC members in jail. You can’t even take them to court. If you try, Abe Foxman is going to go nova and The Devil is going to start squirming on his throne and getting really annoyed and pull some strings in the places where he has the most sway on the planet. Those places would be most governments, most legal systems and certainly all of the ones in America and especially the legislative and administrative branches too. Once the Devil takes care of this, Abe will move on to something else which will lead to something like this or maybe something like this and the Devil can cut back on those Preparation H applications.

In America and Great Britain where people like Abe hold the greatest sway, the world is becoming a replica of George Orwell’s, 1984. They’ve got the German government sewed up pretty tight too and the same is true about the rest of Europe. Very few of the people in any of these countries support what Flaming Abe is up to but the will and opinion of the people isn’t worth anything at all in those places any more. Let’s not leave out Canada and Australia where the psychopathic Zionistas are making life difficult for anyone who isn’t bending over for them. This is the sort of thing that is going on all over the place now and this article barely scratches the surface.

Let’s go back to the first link where we see that Professor William Robinson from the University of Santa Barbara has compared the Israelis to Nazis and apparently he’s going to be prosecuted for this. I thought the First Amendment was a protection against this sort of thing but, most likely there are no more Constitutional protections. The strange thing is that what the professor says is absolutely true. In fact, the Israelis and The Zionists (wherever they may be) are worse than the Nazis. It’s no wonder the devil is in such a bad mood all the time, given how many hemorrhoids he has. AIPAC holds their conventions there; Congress holds its sessions there. The Devil’s Rectum is like the world’s biggest soccer stadium. It’s no wonder that everything we hear from the governments and the press …as well as the Zionist Israelis who control them… It’s no wonder that everything they say and do stinks of something we learned the smell of as children because they form their words and actions out of the substance found in the Devil’s rear end.

Flaming Abe says that the professor’s curriculum intimidated a couple of Jewish students who complained about the professors take. Of course, hypocrisy is one of Flaming Abe’s main characteristics but you do have to wonder whether the Palestinians feel intimidated by the Nazi tactics of the Israelis. You have to wonder if Charles Freeman or Walt and Mearsheimer have felt intimidated. You have to wonder if all the people being intimidated by Flaming Abe and his legion of dung golems feel intimidated. I know what Abe would say. He would say that feeling intimidated by ADL-Zionist-Israeli pressure amounts to anti-Semitism. I believe he would say that Palestinians crying out in their death agonies is anti-Semitism. I am sure he would say that every time a Palestinian draws a breath that it is an anti-Semitic act.

I’d wanted to make Flaming Abe the Hemorrhoid one of my first entries in my new blog, Profiles in Evil but I’m not ready with that yet and Abe really needs to hear this now. He needs to hear from all of us. Abe… the Israelis and their Zionist supporters are worse than the Nazis. I’m never going to recant or change my tune on this. I wouldn’t let the threat of jail or anything else keep me from letting you know that I know that you are an inflamed hemorrhoid in the devil’s rear end. Even if I did have to go to jail for telling the truth, I would have written a thousand essays to be published while I was away. I wouldn’t stop. I would go right back to saying what I am saying… no matter what. That’s how I am Abe… just like you are what you are… a vicious Nazi who crucifies the truth every day and who has no morals, no scruples, no honor and no soul.

I know you can ‘waddle in’ to Blogger and have them shut me down but I have blog locations all over. It takes five extra minutes to set up a new location and less than that to let everyone know where it is.

Maybe you can’t help yourself Abe. I realize that living where you do might give you a distorted view on life. I realize that the only substance you come across in your day is something most people are repelled by. Of course in your case, you’ve got that coprophagia thing happening so you think its pate. Even so, given the position you see the world from, it can’t be an asset to a wider perspective AND, given the sort of people you are likely to meet, well… you have my understanding. I’ve got compassion for a mad dog Abe but there’s no treatment for it.

Let me sum it up for you Abe. Zionism and it’s weapon of ‘Anti-Semitism’ were created to give the impression that the people who took Palestine by force and evicted what inhabitants they didn’t kill and who imprisoned the rest in Warsaw-like ghettos are Biblical inheritors of that land. Actually, the real Semitic inhabitants were already there. This presented a public relations problem so you and your reptile, hemorrhoid associates needed to pretend that you were the people you replaced. This is why you changed the names of all of the towns so as to blot out the former presence of those you disenfranchised and murdered. It’s as simple as that and there is nothing more to it than that.

Now you’re using this hate crime legislation, which you and your proxies are behind, to stifle any and all opposition to your relentless assault on the freedom of human thought, speech and action. It’s right there to be seen. It’s right there. We can all see you the same way the Devil can feel you. And… speaking of the Devil, he’s not happy, not even a little bit, with what you’ve been putting him through and he’s going to be settling your account at some point along with the overdue accounts of the rest of your odious, psychopathic crew.

I’ve been taught to have compassion Abe. I know that I must acquire compassion for everyone to achieve my goal in this life. You don’t need compassion, of course, but we are headed in different directions. In any case, you provide me with quite a conundrum. Is one required to feel compassion for a hemorrhoid? I’ve never had to think about that Abe. Should one have compassion for the Ebola virus as it is attacked by antibodies? It’s a difficult call.

Given what I see these days it really looks like the hemorrhoids have taken over the world. That could have the tendency to depress a person. Still… I’ve got the feeling that something is going to happen some way, somehow and that there’s going to be the kind of shrinking that happened to the Wicked Witch in the Wizard of Oz. Maybe then we won’t be hearing any more from the shrieking violets that trigger all of the witch hunts we have seen in recent times. I don’t know what’s going to put an end to your mischief but I can tell you this… it’s going to happen and you aren’t going to shut me up any more than you will shut up the rest of us. My advice to you is to go into a kind of remission and just enjoy the amenities of your natural home. For a man like yourself there is probably no sweeter place to be. Why not kick back and enjoy it?

Abe Foxman's 'Anti-Semitic Pandemic'

Interesting opinion piece from a well known Israeli peace activist and academic.

Ed CorriganIf there were a Nobel Prize for Hypocrisy, Abraham Foxman would have been a great candidate. The director of the Anti-Defamation League, who once interpreted even International Holocaust Remembrance Day as an expression of the Gentiles' latent desire to see Jews dead, has published a new survey on anti-Semitism in Europe [.pdf]. One of the assertions respondents were asked to agree or disagree with was "Jews are more loyal to Israel than to this country"; an affirmative response was considered indicative of anti-Semitism.

Indeed, doubting the loyalty of a minority is not nice. And the fact that many Zionists would affirm that assertion, or at least expect a Jew to be more loyal to Israel than to his country of residence, is a weak excuse for agreeing with such a characterization of all Jews. But let's put things in perspective: even if about half of Europeans say it's "probably true" that Jews are more loyal to Israel, not a single European party is pledging to revoke Jews' citizenship unless they prove their loyalty. I haven't heard of such a demand toward any other native minority either, in Europe or elsewhere. Even the late Joerg Haider did not go that far.

There is one exception, of course. The foremost campaign slogan of Avigdor Lieberman's Yisrael Beiteinu Party has been "No Loyalty – No Citizenship," which is aimed at Israel's Arab minority. Thirteen percent of Israelis gave Lieberman their vote. What does Abe Foxman have to say about that? Well, Foxman actually defends Lieberman, describing him as harmless: "He's not saying expel them. He's not saying punish them." Not at all: he's just demonizing them and threatening to deprive them of their citizenship. No big deal.

So a private person who doubts the loyalty of Jews in a telephone interview is a dirty anti-Semite to Foxman. But a major political party that publicly defames Arab Israelis and pledges to revoke their citizenship gets a pass from the director of the Anti-Defamation(!) League, purportedly committed to "Fighting Anti-Semitism, Bigotry, and Extremism"!

A Biased Survey

The ADL survey as a whole deserves some critical analysis. Conducted for the second time in seven European countries, the survey consisted of a short list of assertions respondents were supposed to take a stand on.

Note that respondents were given only two choices: they had to refer to each assertion as either "probably true" or "probably false." All the assertions were phrased in a way that "probably true" was the choice considered anti-Semitic. This suffers from the notorious "confirmatory bias," which "inclines people toward accepting assertions, rather than thinking more extensively and seeing the flaws in those assertions" (see Jon Krosnick, "Maximizing Questionnaire Quality" [.pdf]). A serious survey would have phrased some of the assertions in the negative to overcome this natural bias. But the ADL followed its own bias: anti-Semitism should always be found, and the more the better. In fact, if some of this bias, as research indicates, is due to the desire of individuals of lower social status to defer to individuals of higher social status, this could explain why the ADL's survey consistently found that levels of anti-Semitism were higher among people who did not continue education beyond the age of 17.

One also wonders whether the assertion "Jews still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust" (note the suggestive adverb "still"!) has much to do with anti-Semitism (cf. Yehuda Elkana's [.pdf] classical "The Need to Forget" [.pdf]). And what on earth made the ADL waste two of their six questions on almost identical assertions ("Jews have too much power in the business world" and "Jews have too much power in international financial markets"), which almost always yielded the same result (correlation coefficient 0.922). Was there a shortage of anti-Semitic assertions?

Just a couple of weeks ago, Foxman – not a man of understatement – made it to the headlines by decrying "a pandemic of anti-Semitism" as a consequence of Operation Cast Lead: the crisis was "the worst, the most intense, the most global that it has been in most of our memories."

Operation Cast Lead began on Dec. 27, 2008. Now the ADL survey was conducted Dec. 1, 2008-Jan. 13, 2009; that is, its last third was conducted during the devastation of Gaza. If there is an "anti-Semitic pandemic" due to the Gaza events, as Foxman claims, a serious survey should have made a clear distinction between data collected before and after the outbreak of that "pandemic." Actually, the ADL should have simply read its own survey to see the necessity of making such a distinction: one of its findings is that "23 percent of those surveyed say that their opinion of Jews is influenced by the actions taken by the state of Israel."

At any rate – careful scientific distinctions aside – if all this were true, a survey conducted partly after the outbreak of the Gaza atrocities would be influenced by the alleged "pandemic" and show a significant rise in anti-Semitism.

Was this the case? Not quite. Actually, as the ADL admits, "A comparison with the 2007 survey indicates that over the past two years levels of anti-Semitism have remained steady in six of the seven countries tested." Who was the party-pooper? Great Britain, of course, home of some of the most effective initiatives to boycott Israel: "The United Kingdom was the only country in which there was a marked decline" in anti-Semitism. Steadiness in six continental countries, a marked decline in the UK – and this in a survey conducted partly during an alleged "pandemic" of anti-Semitism. Go figure.

Don't Confuse Us With Facts

Obviously, the survey was reported widely in the Israeli media. In fact, much like anti-Communism in the U.S. during the 1980s, anti-anti-Semitism is (Jewish) Israel's national religion. Every non-Jew is an anti-Semite, potentially if not actually – be it a bad-tempered waiter in a French restaurant or even Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Anti-Semitism is our best excuse: We do not believe in peace because all Arabs are anti-Semites. We must attack Iran because all Muslims are anti-Semites and want to annihilate us, and the rest of the world is anti-Semitic and doesn't care if we are annihilated. And of course every criticism of Israel's occupation is purely anti-Semitic.

Obviously, reports of steady or declining levels of anti-Semitism is not what Israelis want to hear: anti-Semitism should always be on the rise, to boost our national cohesion.

Therefore both Ha'aretz (Feb. 11, Hebrew) and YNet (Feb. 10, Hebrew) used the partial data of "31% of Europeans Blame the Jews for the Economic Crisis" as an ominous headline. Both focused on the absolute figures of 2009 and kept the inconvenient trend to a marginal penultimate paragraph. Even then, Ha'aretz journalist Natasha Mozgovaya went out of her way to translate the ADL's "marked decline" in British anti-Semitism as "a small decline" (not even bothering to mention what it was compared to), whereas YNet omitted the adjective and wrote just "a decline." And both followed the ADL summary and quickly "balanced" the overall positive trend by emphasizing the negative fraction of the findings.

Make no mistake: some level of racism, including anti-Semitism, does exist in any society; racist Israel is the last place to deny that. But just like real anti-Semitism undermines the Palestinian cause, so do biased surveys and manipulative declarations about anti-Semitism undermine the struggle against racism. And Foxman criticizing one form of racism while supporting another is despicable

Abraham Foxman, the ADL and credibility

(ADL)'s Foxman should stop using lies

and denials (of the Armenian Genocide, of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, and of the lobby's influence). ACTION ITEM AT BOTTOM

(please take action because silence is complicity) This material is posted with other links and will be regularly updated at http://www.qumsiyeh.org/theadllobby/ In the most recent (albeit limited) US mainstream media discussion of Mearsheimer and Walt's highly successful book, there is mention of Foxman's new book but without comment or challenge to the credibility of these accusers. Foxman's newest book is more appropriately a collection of unfounded accusations and diatribes that hopes against all odds to convince readers to believe that Foxman (a part of the lobby) has no influence ("the lobby is not significant n shaping US Policy").

By writing the book, Foxman \ironically proves the thesis of Mearsheimer and Walt and thus validates their book taht he does not like. But Foxman goes beyond that to repeat the tired claim that criticism of Zionism or of the harmful effects of the Lobby on US and Israeli interests are equivalent to anti-Jewish attitudes. I wanted here to encourage everyone to write to the media to expose the little discussed record of ADL and Foxman, a records of lies and distortions. Authors of books on the lobby and activists who get attacked by the lobby (ironically a lobby that attacks them claiming there is no lobby),

the best defense (against absurd and tired charges of anti-Semitism) is a good offense: exposing the lies and distortions of the ADL and other Israel-first lobby groups. Towards that I made the following compilation and decided to focus on five areas only (ADL's financial scandal, the ADL spy scandal, Attack on President Carter, Denial of the Armenian Genocide, Denial of the Lobby's influence). ADL/Foxman's financial scandals ADL received $250,000 from fugitive billionaire Marc Rich to lobby for a pardon by President Clinton.
Even the neocon Zionist William Saffire was
not happy with that deal (op-ed NY Times, 2001 and article in the Jewish Forward magazine calls on Foxman to resign over the issue http://www.webshells.com/adlwatch/news25.htm ).

Unfortunately there is little investigation of ADL finances let alone its activities by mainstream media. According to available IRS forms 990 for non-profits (frmguidingstar.org), for the year 2005,
ADL collected revenues of $57,452,488
and spent $54,174,161.

The ADL foundation whose accounting si done separately claimed revenues of $101,774,774 and expenses of $17,060,080.

Thus total revenue for Foxman's outfit was $159 million and expenses $71 million) The vast majority of their expenses were n salaries and beefits to 220+ employees (and Foxman writes a book that says there is no influetial lobby).

Here is how much some of the top ADL employees got enriched (again for 2005 only):

Abraham Foxman ($307,075 direct + $79,534 other),

Caryll Stern ($188,505+$40,451),

Marshall Levin ($118,750+$13,766),

Michael Kellman ($104,375+16,294),

Kenneth Jacobson ($182 direct+ 54,668 benefits),

Arthur Teitelbaum ($160,000+$55,104),

Ann Turk ($188,467+142,425),

Robert Lelkind ($182,353+79,610),

and Ronni Meltzer ($132,213+107,203).

ADL also paid over 1.2 million to five contractors for professional services and .

Incredibly, ADL declared/claimed about 0.3% ($257K) of the ADL & ADL foundation expenses as resources devoted to lobbying! ADL Spy Scandal ADL also spied on Arab Americans, Muslim Americans, and African Americans in order to support the close linkage between Apartheid South Africa and Apartheid Israel. In 1992, the nation-wide spy network of the Anti-Defamation League was uncovered. Roy Bullock, described as the ADL's leading "fact-finder" by Irwin Suall, the organization's spy-master, was also working for South African intelligence, spying on the anti-apartheid movement and South African exiles in the US who were working with the ANC which the ADL had denounced as a "terrorist" organization. For more info on the ADL case see: http://www.counterpunch.org/adlspies.html Attack on President Carter Foxman's attacks on President Carter is classic for the kind of distortions and shenanigans that the Israel first lobby engages in.

Carter was actually far more pro-Israel and in his book claimed there is no apartheid inside the Green line (Palestinian areas that became Israel by 1949). Carter was speaking about a "developing" apartheid system in the 22% of Palestine occupied by Israel in 1967. Carter also claims that racism was not a factor in this apartheid but desire for land grab (this is simply false as any casual reading of Zionist own literature illustrates). DENIAL OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE ADL Foxman's Armenian Genocide Denial road show http://www.counterpunch.org/walsh08272007.html Video of Watertown town council meeting in which the town disassociates itself from ADL for refusing to recognize Armenian genocide: See Here Audio clip on some reasons why the ADL doesn't want to recognize the Armenian genocide: See Here Te ADL reversed itself partially on this issue by acknowledging the atrocities but still refuses top back down from its rejection of the congressional resolution that recognizes the Armenian Genocide DENIAL OF THE ISRAEL LOBBY POWER Mainstream writers who happen to be Jewish do not shy away from describing the lobby's influence on US foreign policy. For example anyone can browse such well researched and successful books by Jews who are mainstream Zionists: J.J. Goldberg "Jewish Power", Steven Silbiger "The Jewish Phenomenon," David Zurawik "The Jews of Prime Time," Andrew Heinze "Jews and the American Soul", Yuri Slezkine's "The Jewish Century". Considerable evidence for the power of the lobby is provided by these and many other books (like Mearsheimer and Walt, James Petras, John Coley, John Mulhall, etc).

Gentile writers are actually more careful and distinguish between Jews and Zionists (many Jews are not Zionists and many Zionists are not Jews).

Mearsheimer and Walt repeatedly make the point that the Israel lobby is not Ethnic or Religious as it includes Christians and Jews and its opponents similarly include Christians and Jews. But facts do not seem to matter to Foxman who was so so incensed perhaps because any talk of the influence of groups like ADL may risk his source of power and income.

Foxman gains a considerable salary (reported in 2005 tax forms at $307,000+$80,000 benefits) for his activities on behalf of Israel while claiming that the Israel lobby does not influence US policy. There is one Yiddish word that describes that arrogance: Chutzpah. For a good set of other resources (and where I got some of this information), visit http://adlwatch.org/ BTW, and for the sake of full disclosure: the ADL has a backgrounder on me on their website: http://www.adl.org/israel/qumsiyeh/ also see the article attached on our protest in New Haven against the local ADL's efforts to silence free speech. ACTION ITEM: Thursday is a US national call-in Day to end the war on Iraq and stop the war on Iran.

Contact your representatives (http://capwiz.com/fconl/dbq/officials/ )

and contact the media (use http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=111 and http://www.congress.org/congressorg/dbq/media/ ).
Resources and talking
points on issues of Iran are posted at http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3263 ; even though those links ignore the Israel lobby's persistent push for war). So let us discuss these issues (especially the Lobby's influence) with elected officials and media pundits, journalists, and editors.
