Canada and the Syrian Debacle

The Harper Government Government’s “Support” for an Illegal Attack on a Sovereign Government Has No Juridical or Political Legitimacy

by Anthony Hall

CTV reports that Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has said “Canada will offer full political support” for a US military action in Syria. This kind of statement is obscene given the Harper Party’s prorogation of parliament until late October. The goal of this closure of parliament is to avoid accountability by obstructing formal political debate on everything even as the plague of war fever engulfs the planet. For the third time Harper, who is contending with an RCMP investigation of his Office’s financial dealings within his own political party, has closed parliament to avoid embarrassing questions from members of the opposition including the attractive new Liberal Party leader, Justin Trudeau.
The election-fraud government of Stephen Harper has no right to speak for Canada or for all Canadians on war with Syria before any parliamentary debate whatsoever has taken place as it did in Great Britain. The foreign-backed “rebels” in Syria have derived much weaponry from the NATO-backed (thus Canada-backed) insurrection in Libya. Our Armed Forces intervened to help foment and decide the outcome of a civil war without any credible political debate in Canada whatsoever. The Harper government, therefore, already has much blood on its hands for its role in the murderous developments currently engulfing Syria.
Enough is enough. A transnational movement of citizens is coalescing to throw our bodies on the gears of a lethal and out-of-control war machine presided over by war criminals such as Stephen Harper, John Baird, Barack Obama, and Benjamin Netanyahu. We must insist on the preeminence of the rule of law over the rule of the kind of thuggery regularly displayed, lauded, and embraced by the Harperites.
The world’s many millions of truthers are demanding we get to the bottom of who is responsible for the chemical attacks on the innocent civilians in Syria before the commencement of yet another invasion based on false flag terrorism. We need to know, for instance, about the possible role of Saudi Arabia’s Prince Bandar in allegedly supplying chemical weapons to the anti-Baathist “rebels.”
There is no tolerance any longer for the kind of disregard for the truth demonstrated in 2003 when the then-opposition-leader Stephen Harper called for Canadian armed forces to join in the invasion of Iraq based on the specious claims coming from the White House about weapons of mass destruction.
