Politico and Talking Points Memo (TPM) report that the FBI has been interviewing congressional staff members about American Israel Education Foundation (AIEF) sponsored trips to Israel. AIEF, created two decades ago by and administered within the headquarters of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), brought a fifth of Congress to Israel in August of 2011 despite reform laws restricting lobbyist-paid travel.
The Examiner recently reported the investigations followed IRmep filings with the IRS and Justice Department claiming that AIEF was a sham organization operating on behalf of an unregistered foreign agent of the Israeli government (AIPAC). Code Pink's Medea Benjamin filed a similar complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics. Although outlets such as TPM center their coverage on accounts of skinny-dipping in the Sea of Galilee and claim the investigation is limited, the focus of interviews and scope of the investigation is not yet publicly known.

Abramoff admits illegally arming Israeli settlers was not-so-charitable
On August 15, 2012 convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff appeared on an American University public radio program to promote his new book. In 2008 Abramoff was sentenced to 4 years in prison over a lobbying-related corruption scandal that involved mass fraud against Indian tribes.
Abramoff responds to IRmep's pointed question about his laundering funds through a nonprofit to purchase U.S. military gear sent to Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank.
