Cancer in children is relatively rare, in most western nations the rate of diagnosis each year is in the range of 140 – 150 cases per million children.  In the developed world over 70% of children who suffer from cancer are cured.
However the situation is not so positive for Palestine’s children. There are no adequate paediatric cancer services in all of Gaza.  This means that children and their parents must travel to Israel, Jordan or East Jerusalem in order to obtain treatment (location of treatment is dependent on Ministry of Health referrals and the availability of beds).
This problem is further compounded by high levels of unemployment and poverty.
Deir El Balah is Gaza’s smallest refugee camp, with a population of 20,500 of whom 38% are children.  We currently have 7 small children from Deir El Balah who are suffering from cancer and require sponsorship.  Photos & Details of Kids needing sponsorship .
The objective of this sponsorship campaign is to provide funding needed for them to travel to receive cancer treatment.
Sponsorship details:
Payment:

• Required amount $50 per month.
• Sponsorship is on a yearly basis, and can be renewed at the end of the year
• Can be paid by credit card, online or transfer, for a full year or as a monthly donor.

Use:   

Will be spent by the local PCRF social worker to pay transport & other travel related costs for the child

Reporting:

Sponsors will receive a quarterly update from the local PCRF social worker & the child’s family about the child’s situation.

Other:

In the event that sponsorship is no longer required for a specific child, the child’s sponsor will be contacted to see if they’d like to sponsor another child.
