Forty-four years ago seems like a long time and, in terms of fashion or family photo albums, it is. But the June 8, 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty is still an important issue. Thirty-four American sailors and civilian personnel were killed … over 170 more were wounded.
An independent, blue-ribbon commission―including a former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Marine General who was the highest ranking recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor―conducted an investigation in 2003. Their report contained explosive findings, including
The truth about Israel’s attack and subsequent White House cover-up continues to be concealed from the American people to the present day and is a national disgrace.”
Now, Phil Giraldi, CNI’s Executive Director, has uncovered new and startling information. In an article just published, Phil reports ...“A crewman on the USS Amberjack, [an] intelligence gathering sub, has provided an account of his ship’s activities on that day in June [and] the ship’s log confirms that it was indeed in the area. The sub’s crew knew that a US Navy vessel was under attack, but the Amberjack was only lightly armed and in no position to intervene. The [Amberjack] crewmen feared that they themselves might be hit by the torpedoes that the Israeli warships were firing.”
The article continues “Several Liberty crewmen reported seeing a periscope during the attack and it has generally been assumed that it was Israeli.”
Now we know differently.
Phil reveals this:
“The photos and videos of the incident made by Amberjack were subsequently couriered to Washington by a ship’s officer, where they were turned over to the Pentagon.”
Where is this evidence today? Was it destroyed? Is it collecting dust on a shelf? This new information must be circulated in the halls of Congress and in the media. The Council for the National Interest will do its part in demanding hearings and investigations. I’m asking you to do the same …
1. Send the link to Phil Giraldi’s article to your member of Congress
2. Send it to family, friends, and activists who should be aware of a cover up
3. Send letters, with a link to the article, to the media.
4. Support CNI’s efforts to spread the word on this scoop.
It’s time to come to the aid of the surviving crew members of the USS Liberty by publicizing Phil Giraldi's exclusive findings. Will you help?2. Send it to family, friends, and activists who should be aware of a cover up

Your tax deductible gift of $1000 or $100 or just $35 or $50 is urgently needed―we must act now while the new revelations are fresh.
Former U.S. Senator and current CNI Board member James Abourezk has observed: “Allowing the lies told by the Israelis and their minions in the U.S. is disheartening to all of us who are proud of our servicemen and women.”
Demanding justice for American soldiers who were betrayed by government operatives―who were working in collusion with powerful special interest groups―is in the best American tradition of patriotic values.
Please join with me in demanding the truth about what really happened to the USS Liberty. Forty-four years is a long time, but not too long for justice to be served. Your gift of $35, $50 $100 or more will help CNI deliver this message.Sincerely,
Alison Weir
President, Council for the National Interest
P.S. Wonder how relevant the attack on the USS Liberty is to today's Middle East news? Israel is still attacking ships it deems a "threat." Last May, Israeli armed forces attacked a flotilla of aid-carrying ships aiming to break the country's siege on Gaza―nine people were killed, including a 19-year-old with American citizenship shot execution style in the head. The attack took place in international waters. Please be generous in this fight. Contributions of $500 are vital, and gifts of $50 are also necessary to get the job done. CNI needs all hands on deck.
