This is not the path to peace.
On Friday, the Obama Administration
vetoed a UN resolution declaring that
Israeli settlements on Palestinian
land are illegal.
14 of the 15 members of the UN
Security Council supported the
resolution. Only our own US
government said no. Because we are
one of five permanent members on the
Council, our government has veto
power.

The construction of Israeli
settlements is slowly turning what is
left of Palestinian land into Jewish-only
neighborhoods guarded by Israeli
troops. US taxpayers are forced to
subsidize this activity through
billions of dollars of aid to Israel.
To her credit, US Ambassador Susan
Rice told the Security Council, "We
reject in the strongest terms the
legitimacy of continued Israeli
settlement activity."
If so, why did she veto the resolution?
