Egypt: “Slaughterman” – Transition Impossible
Omar Suleiman - better known as “slaughterman” - the recently appointed Vice Dictator of Egypt, is certainly living up to his new duties – and prior reputation.(1)
Since accepting his latest vice mission (after which he should self-destruct) the peaceful Egyptian revolution became a bloodbath, as his protégés responded in the only way they know – with mindless violence.
Killing and beating Egyptian men, women and children only raised a little international irritation – until they began killing and beating international journalists. That got the EU and the White House more interested. Not enough to do anything about it other than mouth the usual platitudes – after all, these are the same people making life a tad difficult with their pesky Wikileaks and Palestine Papers so hey, boys, call us when it’s all over. Just stick to the plot – “roadmap”, “promises”, “constitutional amendments”, “talks with opposition” and “elections”, throw in an investigation or two, and hang in until we have time to sort out a new point-man...sorry, party.
Slaughterman, purported “Intelligence” Chief, today said he had no idea there would be confrontations. Duh!!! Did he really believe the protesters would just go home when his goons rampaged uncontrolled on the streets last night, and continue doing so tonight, killing, maiming, and injuring peaceful protesters under the eyes of the world?? If that’s the extent of his smarts, no wonder he has been so overwhelmingly successful in nothing but brute force – but even that isn’t working anymore...
Mubarak says he’s fed up and wants to go, but fears chaos if he does. What the ? does he think is happening out there!
Equally on-the-ball Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq trumpets a probe into last night’s violence - while doing sweet F A about preventing tonight’s, or tomorrow’s, or the next day’s – all the while claiming that talks are taking place with the “opposition”. The Muslim Brotherhood, the National Coalition for Change, and ‘protest organisers’ have all refused to speak with the government until Mubarak goes, and deny being in any dialogue with it, so which opposition is he referring to – Mubarak, maybe?
As Al Jazeera and the BBC increasingly pushed the line today that Mubarak has promised to go so why don’t the protesters go home, the protesters themselves are standing firm.
There will be no compromise – Mubarak must go, and the current regime must go.
Whatever the US, Israel, the EU and anyone else wants, as long as Mubarak, Slaughterman, Shafiq and their ilk hold power, for Egyptians it will remain Transition Impossible.
