Ni'ilin demonstrates under the banner "The Intifada Continues, No Peace with the Occupation. Demonstrators manage to place flag on top of wall in Ni'ilin despite heavy amounts of tear gas.
The weekly demonstration against the Separation Wall in Ni'ilin took place Friday afternoon with a smaller than normal group of Palestinians and a handful of Israeli supporters. After afternoon prayers, roughly thirty people walked to the gate of the wall under the banner of "The Intifada Continues, No Peace with the Occupation. Demonstrators placed the banner on the gate of the wall and banged against the gate with stones to catch the attention of Israeli soldiers on the other side of the wall. Within minutes, the army responded with a volley of tear gas which covered the entire area of the protest.
The demonstration then moved to the area where the wall becomes a fence and where demonstrators and soldiers can directly see one and other. One demonstrator was able to place a Palestinian flag on top of the wall while others chanted slogans demanding the return of Ni'ilin's lands as well as the protesting the illegality of Israel's occupation. The army responded with a relentless cloud of tear gas which forced the demonstrators back to the village. The demonstration ended with no injuries other than tear gas inhalation among a number of demonstrators.
