GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- The leftist Palestinian Peoples' Party called on Tuesday for a united front for the popular resistance, in a statement marking the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000.
The PPP said Palestinian factions should learn from the First and Second Intifadas "to adopt the peoples' way of facing aggression," demanding the formation of a united front to face renewed settlement activity in the West Bank.
The Second Intifada, the movement said, "assured the Palestinian people of their strength" and was the result of "aggressive policies."
The statement denounced the Palestinian Authority's return to direct negotiations with Israel. Negotiators had initially sworn to walk out of talks if Israel continued to build settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and have not announced an end to the peace process in the wake of the expiration of the 10-month construction moratorium on settlements announced in December of 2009.
