Alternative Medicine Debate by UCC also has the house supporting a cultural boycott of Israel being carried.

Last week the Philosoph hosted a debate on Israel and Palestine. It was an extremely entertaining evening and ended with the motion, That This House Supports a Cultural Boycott of Israel, being carried. Both Raymond Deane and Tom Carew delivered insightful and moving speeches which were complemented brilliantly by speeches from the audience.
The next debate shall be hosted in collaboration with the UCC Medical Society. On Monday November 1st at 19.30 in Kane G19 a debate on the topic of alternative medicine will take place. As more and more people question the reliability and good of conventional medicine UCC wonders if alternative medicine could be the answer. Indeed a growing number of people seem to think so with the numbers involved in homeopathy increasing all the time. But then concerns are being raised over alternative medicine too, is it as good as its supporters would have us believe?
Does alternative medicine do more harm than good? The Philosoph and Medical Society attempt to answer this very question. Paul O’Donoghue a clinical psychologist and founder of Irish Skeptics and Professor Thomas Cotter of UCC Biochemistry Department and recipient of the Boyle Medal will attempt to convince us that alternative medicine really is more harmful than beneficial. Orla Broderick of the Irish Homeopathy Society and British MP David Tredinnick are due to vehemently oppose this view. With such highly acclaimed speakers a stimulating evening is guaranteed and as always there will be an opportunity for the audience to contribute. All are welcome.
