IOF Continues to Attack Palestinians; Two Persons Killed and One Injured

Al Mezan Calls on the International Community to Intervene

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) continued their attacks on Palestinian civilians and their properties. These attacks come amid the ongoing siege. At approximately  3:30am on Friday 25 June 2010, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) fired a missile on a tunnel on the Gaza-Egypt border under the Al Shoka village, south east Rafah.  As a result, two persons were killed and one person was injured.

At approximately 3:30pm on Friday 25 June 2010, the civil defense teams collected the dead body of 'Amer 'Atwa Abu Hadaeid, 23, and the injured Mohammed Ghaza Abu Khatal, 21. Abu Khatal was injured in the head and his left hand was amputated. According to medical sources at the European Gaza Hospital, his injuries are described as critical. The civil defense teams continued looking for Mohammed Fawzi Jom'a Abu Is'hiban, 28. At approximately 2:10pm on Saturday 26 June 2010, the civil defense teams collected his body. The three persons are from Rafah.

At approximately 2:15am on Friday 25 June 2010, Israeli aircraft attacked an open agricultural area east of Jabalia, in North Gaza District. No causalities or injuries were reported. The sound of the explosion was terrifying. Children and women were panicked.

Al Mezan condemns the escalation of the IOF continuous attacks against civilians and their properties. Al Mezan deplores the ongoing siege imposed on the Gaza Strip despite the increased international campaign to end it.

Al Mezan views the increase in the Israeli attacks as a direct result of the international community's failure to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities towards Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories in general and in the Gaza Strip in particular. Instead of ending the siege, which may amount to a   crime against humanity under the Rome Statute the Israeli authorities seek to mislead the public opinion by taking steps towards easing the siege. The world is expecting to see the UN resolutions and the Goldstone recommendations  applied on the ground, but the IOF continues its attacks.

Therefore, Al Mezan calls on the international community to promptly intervene to end the Israeli daily attacks against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and to take effective steps to end the siege.
