Israel attacks Gaza aid fleet and kills more of Innocent people

Once again Israel has showed the world their murderous ways and their true colours and is not interested in any peace. Are we going to just talk and complain or are we going to do something that holds Israel to account for yet another list of War Crimes.

Israel attacks Gaza aid fleet

Aid convoy was attacked 65km off the Gaza coast

Israeli forces have attacked a flotilla of aid-carrying ships aiming to break the country's siege on Gaza.

Up to 16 people were killed and more than 30 people injured when troops stormed the Freedom Flotilla early on Monday, the Israeli Army Radio said.

The flotilla was attacked in international waters, 65km off the Gaza coast.

Footage from the flotilla's lead vessel, the Mavi Marmara, showed armed Israeli soldiers boarding the ship and helicopters flying overhead.

Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal, on board the Mavi Marmara, said Israeli troops had used live ammunition during the operation.

The troops did not wait a second and opened fired as soon as they stormed the ships.

It's being reported the ships were now being towed to the Israeli town of Haifa, instead of Ashdod to avoid waiting journalists.

Israeli intervention

Shortly after, two Israeli naval vessels had flanked the flotilla on either side, but at a distance.

Organisers of the flotilla carrying 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid then diverted their ships and slowed down to avoid a confrontation during the night.

They also issued all passengers life jackets and asked them to remain below deck.

Al Jazeera’s Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting from Jerusalem, said the Israeli action was surprising.

"All the images being shown from the activists on board those ships show clearly that they were civilians and peaceful in nature, with medical supplies on board. So it will surprise many in the international community to learn what could have possibly led to this type of confrontation," he said.

Protests

Condemnation has been quick to pour in after the Israeli action.

Thousands of Turkish protesters tried to storm the Israeli consulate in Istanbul soon after the news of the operation broke. The protesters shouted "Damn Israel" as police blocked them.

Turkey is also reported to have summoned the Israeli ambassador to lodge a protest.

Meanwhile, Ismail Haniya, the Hamas leader in Gaza, has dubbed the Israeli action as "barbaric".

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists, including a Nobel laureate and several European legislators, are with the flotilla, aiming to reach Gaza in defiance of an Israeli embargo.

But Israel has said it will not allow the flotilla to reach the Gaza Strip and vowed to stop the six ships from reaching the coastal Palestinian territory.

The flotilla had set sail from a port in Cyprus on Sunday and aimed to reach Gaza by Monday morning.

    My name is Yoav
    I am a Israeli
I am against the ongoing siege on the Gaza strip
I ask myself, who where the people on the upper deck on the “marmara” that morning? Humanitarian activists? Peaceful protesters? aid givers who care only for the welfare of the people in Gaza ? Why were all the others ordered to go under deck? Why did the victims have so much cash inside their pockets? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZlSSaPT_OU&feature=player_embedded
If it was humanitarian aid that those people wanted to give, why didn’t they want to let it enter threw Israel, after being checked ?
Where is the aid? How much humanitarian aid was there (in all 6 ships)? 25 containers! A quarter of the daily amount of containers entering from Israel
The people on the ships new they were breaking an Israeli ongoing effort in Gaza. by doing so, they should have anticipated a conflict with the Israeli army. As seen very clearly in the footage, the people on deck attacked the soldiers ones they landed on board. Soldiers where beaten, stabbed and thrown over deck. By doing so they should have anticipated the use of deadly force. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYjkLUcbJWo
The struggle to free Gaza from the ongoing siege is legitimate, but the provocation, the lying and the criticism against the Israeli action in that specific event, in uncalled-for.

  2. Yoav why the account holder on you tube where those videos are (idfnadesk)have comments disabled , for sure people should be able to debate in a peaceful manner the videos that were posted.
I'm sure with all the money Israel receives from America, Canada, & everywhere else (corporate state welfare) they could hire an official to take care of questions or debate?

For most of your comments please stayed tuned to a posting where I will explain in detail and try and help you understand.

    Dannyd hello

I don’t know why the comment possibility is disabled. But I don’t think that’s relevant to our debate.

Before you respond I want to make one more thing clear: yes I am agents the siege, but not because humane reasons. I just think it isn’t efficient.

I’m not trying to justify all of Israel’s actions, but You must understand that These days, The state of Israel is in war with the Hamas (I’ll spare you the chain of events since the Israeli withdraw in 2005) . That’s why we don’t want to do business with the Hamas, and we do want to control what comes in the Gaza stip.

As for today, the economy in the Gaza strip is bad, but there is no hunger or any humanitarian crises (they report so as well) .

And still, I guess that Israel is the only country in the world daily providing her enemies with basic food supplies, water, electricity, Medicine, and hospital services.

One more question: where is all the criticism towards Egypt?
Like Israel: they are siegeing Gaza as well, unlike Israel: the hardly aloud any merchandise in.

    Where are you from ?
