IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz praised the assassination of Mahmoud Mabhouh the leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), while the Chairman of the Parliamentary
Committee in the Knesset Yariv Levin called for liquidation of Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh in a similar manner to the assassination of
Mabhoh.

In a speech at the University of Tel Aviv, Halutz warned that "any person, such as Mabhouh should think carefully before undertaking any
activity of travel, booking a plane ticket or hotel room via the Internet. 

While talking about the assassination Halutz said that ‘Any such actions will deter what he calls terrorist organizations and any State that is un aware of Israel's intelligence capabilities." He added.

Halutz talked about the assassination of Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyah and said that his assasination was, " a deterrent and it is no coincidence that the Secretary General of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah remained three and a half years
in hiding, Halutz added ‘the moment we will be able to liquidate him we will do so" .
