Do you think such activities contribute to understanding the Palestinian plight?

An Art Ehibition in Sharjah documents the Palestinian Plight

By Iqbal Tamimi

Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qassimi Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development in Sharjah UAE inaugurated an art Gallery entitled ‘Reflections on Palestine’ which documents through art the Palestinian plight and the population exodus.

The exhibition portrayed 19 paintings and works of art for a number of Palestinian artists like Tamam ElAkhal the wife of the late Palestinian artist Ismaeel Shammout, the late Palestinian artist Ismaeel Shammout, and the prominent late Palestinian cartoonist Naji AlAli who is well known by the little Palestinian Bare footed boy Handhalah that he created, and apparent in most of his 40.000 cartoons. AlAli’s youngest daughter Judi has attended the exhibition opening. Naji AlAli was assassinated in London 23 years ago.
During the activity the ‘Daloona’ Palestinian Dabkeh team participated in some Folklore dancing which reflects the agricultural nature of the Palestinian society and its closely related art with the land and the harvesting seasons.

A Palestinian film was shown during the activity as well documenting the expulsion of the Palestinian nation from their home land to exile. It is worth mentioning that 4.5 million Palestinians are living in the Diaspora hanging on to the keys of their homes and working on going back to their properties.
