The Free Gaza Movement reported on Friday that the “Hope” convoy carrying humanitarian aid from several European countries to Gaza is currently being organized by Dutch organizations that reject the Israeli siege on Gaza, and support the Palestinian people.
The “Hope convoy is expected to start its trip to Gaza in early May, and will include ten ambulances donated to Gaza hospitals and dozens of trucks filled with medical and humanitarian aid, including equipment desperately needed by residents of special needs.
Rami Abdo, coordinator of the trip, said that the ten ambulances are fully equipped. He added that six ambulances are donated by Danish organizations, two by Swiss organizations, and two other ambulances and two medical machines are donated by French organizations.
Abdo stated that the ambulances and aid trucks will be driving towards Milan in Italy, and then all of them will be loaded onto a ship that would sail from Milan towards Alexandria seaport in Egypt. After arriving in Egypt the convoy would then drive towards the Rafah border terminal.
Several physicians, surgeons and specialists will also be accompanying the convoy to perform surgeries for sick and injured Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The convoy also includes wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids and other urgently needed medical equipment.
Furthermore, Abdo stated that a number of European parliamentarians and officials and a large number of peace activists from Europe are accompanying the convoy.
Grena Dosenberg, the wife of the former head of the Central Europeans Bank, said that she will be one of the internationals heading to Gaza.
Dosenberg, of the Stop the Occupation origination, previously sent hearing aides to children in Gaza. During the first Intifada, Grena, raised a Palestinian flag on her terrace to express her support to the Palestinian people, and was protested against for doing so.
Abu Rashid, human affairs coordinator of the Hope convoy and its representative in Holland, stated on Wednesday that several institutions in Holland are participating in the convoy which will be heading from Italy in early May.
A Swiss parliamentarian and a number of Jewish figures and peace activists also said they will be joining the Hope convoy.
