Adib S Kawar - Gerald Kaufman's speech, good but somewhat inaccurate

By Adib Kawar
Israel is giving Gaza "the reply of the Nazis" And Hamas is "dealing with Palestinians translucently and with uprightness".

"It is time for our Government to make clear to the Israeli government that

its conduct and policies are unacceptable and to impose a total arms ban on Israel."

Sir Gerald Kaufman MP: A Jew and ex-Zionist:Sir Gerald Kaufmann's 180 degree change in ideology from an Orthodox Jewish Zionist who contributed to the establishment of the Zionist entity since an early age to standing in the U.K. House of Commons to criticize the Zionist entity's recent war crimes during the Zionist entity's assault on Gaza is highly appreciated. It is an awakening that all conscientious people are supposed to go through. But we were surprised to read after all that brought happiness and a feeling of gratitude when hearing his words, we were surprised and shocked to hear him saying: "Hamas is a deeply nasty organisation", especially when he continued to say: "but it was democratically elected, and it is the only game in town. The boycotting of Hamas, including by our Government, has been a culpable error, from which dreadful consequences have followed". There is a lot of contradiction in

these words. One could disagree with Hamas' religious ideology if he, like the undersigned embraces a secularist ideology, but for people who believe and behave democratically one should not call such a resistance organization "nasty".

The legal authority, Dr. Garry Collins who was in charge of UNRWA in east Jerusalem, said in a lecture in a Beirut university, AUT, speaking about the "the human tragedy in Gaza": "Hamas, which started as a social and humanitarian movement was able to build its strength and capabilities on the basis of dealing with Palestinians translucently and with uprightness, who suffered of great corruption with Fatah, which made Palestinians vote giving a big majority to Hamas, the thing that shocked Israel, America and Arab rulers. Now we should ask Sir Gerald what is "nasty" with a movement that people who know the social conditions of occupied Palestinians, and call Hamas "dealing with Palestinians translucently and with uprightness".

Hamas is a movement that is over and above being a social and humanitarian movement, is also a resistance movement that could build up its military capabilities and strength to face Zionist state terror, which had never abided with agreements. Hamas was able, because of the building of its military strength, like Hezbollah did in Lebanon, defeat the Zionist entity's military might twice. Both parties with their zeal, transparency and uprightness could do that and kick out occupation from their territories, but the Zionist entity continued its targeted assassination operations against resistance leaders, which in the process caused many civilian casualties, and in several well known operations of targeted assassination, the nastiness of the Zionist enemy could at least kill ten to fifteen minors, women and elderly people at a time just in order to assassinate the targeted leader, which is neither strange nor abnormal when one tonne bombs were dropped on houses located in very densely populated neighborhoods. Zionist political and military leaders claim that the targeted leaders and activists use their families as human shields. In reply to such accusations, we ask very simple questions that don't require military strategists and experts to answer:

* Where do Zionist military and political leaders live? Don't they live with their families in populated neighborhoods, and not on the top of a secluded hill, in a cave in a deep valley or a fortified bunker? They usually live in their family houses!!!

* Where would they live if Hamas or Hezbollah had their sophisticated firepower of F-16s, Apaches and spy ships that could locate the movement of an ant and target them in a narrow five kms. deep strip of land that has the highest density of population in the world?

* After all who occupy whose land displaced or replaced its people in their homes and land?!

Of course Sir Gerald Kaufmann is being condemned by Zionists and the terrorist entity of "Israel". One could disagree with the ideology that Hamas embraces, being an Islamist organization, but all religions have deeply religious groups and some of them are fundamentalists such as Orthodox Jews and Zionist Christians, but it is not a "salafy" that is expiatory. Hamas has Christian ministers in the Palestinian cabinet that it leads. They consider Palestinian Christians as full compatriots of theirs, and they don't hate Jews, alright they as well as us hate Zionists and Zionism because it's a racist, terrorist and colonialist ideology, they occupy our land and displaced and replaced our people, the indigenous population of Palestine. I, as a secularist could disagree with Hamas in adopting religious ideology, but Hamas, besides being a resistance organization that was, as Sir Gerald said in his parliamentary speech, "democratically elected", yes it won the elections with a majority of 74% of the Palestinian voters in a clean elections campaign that chose its administrators. Hamas is a resistance organization that is practicing its internationally recognized right in confronting Zionist occupation, which Sir Gerald approves of, as we conclude from his speech. Hamas is by no means corrupt, on the contrary it is fully clean. Hamas, besides fulfilling its costly resistance duty, it supports the unfortunate Palestinian community that had been deprived of work, about 80% of whom are living under the poverty line. Hamas, even before being elected was providing occupied Palestinians with social, educational, health and financial support who were impoverished by Zionist occupation and siege, and to the families of its resistance men and fighters and ordinary civilians who were assassinated by Zionist state terror. Hamas, besides fighting Zionist occupation and terror, is embracing its fellow citizens.

How could a resistance organization then be nasty when it is dedicated to the liberation of the land and the people of Arab Palestine?

This is the full text Sir Gerald Kaufman (Manchester, Gorton) (Lab): I was brought up as an orthodox Jew and a Zionist. On a shelf in our kitchen, there was a tin box for the Jewish National Fund, into which we put coins to help the pioneers building a Jewish presence in Palestine.

I first went to Israel in 1961 and I have been there since more times than I can count. I had family in Israel and have friends in Israel. One of them fought in the wars of 1956, 1967 and 1973 and was wounded in two of them. The tie clip that I am wearing is made from a campaign decoration awarded to him, which he presented to me.

I have known most of the Prime Ministers of Israel, starting with the founding Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. Golda Meir was my friend, as was Yigal Allon, Deputy Prime Minister, who, as a general, won the Negev for Israel in the 1948 war of independence.

My parents came to Britain as refugees from Poland. Most of their families were subsequently murdered by the Nazis in the holocaust. My grandmother was ill in bed when the Nazis came to her home town of Staszow. A German soldier shot her dead in her bed.

My grandmother did not die to provide cover for Israeli soldiers murdering Palestinian grandmothers in Gaza. The current Israeli Government ruthlessly and cynically exploit the continuing guilt among gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians. The implication is that Jewish lives are precious, but the lives of

Palestinians do not count.

On Sky News a few days ago, the spokeswoman for the Israeli army, Major Leibovich, was asked about the Israeli killing of, at that time, 800 Palestinians-the total is now 1,000. She replied instantly that "500 of them were militants."

That was the reply of a Nazi. I suppose that the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants. The Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni asserts that her Government will have no dealings with Hamas, because they are terrorists. Tzipi Livni's father was Eitan Livni, chief operations officer of the terrorist Irgun Zvai Leumi, who organised the blowing-up of the King David hotel in Jerusalem, in which 91 victims were killed, including four Jews.

Israel was born out of Jewish terrorism. Jewish terrorists hanged two British sergeants and booby-trapped their corpses. Irgun, together with the terrorist Stern gang, massacred 254 Palestinians in 1948 in the village of Deir Yassin. Today, the current Israeli Government indicate that they would

be willing, in circumstances acceptable to them, to negotiate with the Palestinian President Abbas of Fatah. It is too late for that. They could have negotiated with Fatah's previous leader, Yasser Arafat, who was a friend of mine. Instead, they besieged him in a bunker in Ramallah, where I visited him.

Because of the failings of Fatah since Arafat's death, Hamas won the Palestinian election in 2006. Hamas is a deeply nasty organisation, but it was democratically elected, and it is the only game in town. The boycotting of Hamas, including by our Government, has been a culpable error, from which dreadful consequences have followed.

The great Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban, with whom I campaigned for peace on many platforms, said: "You make peace by talking to your enemies."

However many Palestinians the Israelis murder in Gaza, they cannot solve this existential problem by military means. Whenever and however the fighting ends, there will still be 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza and 2.5 million more on the west bank. They are treated like dirt by the Israelis, with hundreds of road blocks and with the ghastly denizens of the illegal Jewish settlements harassing them as well. The time will come, not so long from now, when they will outnumber the Jewish population in Israel. It is time for our Government to make clear to the Israeli Government that their conduct and policies are unacceptable, and to impose a total arms ban on Israel. It is time for peace, but real peace, not the solution by conquest which is the Israelis' real goal but which it is impossible for them to achieve. They are not simply war criminals; they are fools.
