But then I was reading this Press Statement by the Quartet - there seems to be plenty of points to pick up on and it was nice to see Mr Fisk’s recent piece on Resolution 242 –
“The Quartet reiterated its support for the Egyptian-brokered calm that came into effect on June 19, 2008,”
But no, don’t mention the: “50 Palestinians, including 7 children killed during truce.”
And it was welcoming to note that at least one Palestinian prisoner got a mention:
“The Quartet called for the immediate and unconditional release of Israeli Corporal Gilad Shalit.”
But not a single utterance that:
“As of November 2008, Israel is holding about 570 Palestinians in administrative detention in facilities run by the Israel Prison Service (IPS). “
Because I keep seeing these reports which appear with regular familiarity and nothing ever seems to improve, like this: ‘2000 sick detainees facing medical negligence,’ or the latest, ‘Israel still abusing Palestinian prisoners.’ Or the latest, latest, it’s hard to keep up!
It’s almost as if, well, it’s like this guy says, ‘Who Cares, They’re Only Palestinians?’ Or could it be that the people that make up this Quartet, they’re entrapped in the same racist, bigoted mindset of say, Winston Churchill, who thought nothing of the use of gas against ‘uncivilised tribes’? And I’ve just been reminded of this, which explains quite a bit, IMHO
[As Balfour himself wrote in 1919], “For in Palestine we do not propose even to go through the form of consulting the wishes of the present inhabitants of the country...The four powers are committed to Zionism and Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long tradition, in present needs, in future hopes, of far profounder import than the desire and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now inhabit that ancient land,'" Edward Said, "The Question of Palestine."
