* Demonstration: Solidarity with Gaza
commemorate Palestinian victims of Israeli massacre in Gaza
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 28th, 13h00, 2008
Norman Bethune Square
corner: Guy & de Maisonneuve
(metro Guy-Concordia)
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
In response to the latest massacre of Palestinians executed by the Israeli
apartheid regime.
At least 200 Palestinians have been killed in the latest Israeli assault
on the Gaza Strip, while the threat for further bloodshed still hands
heavily over the skies in Palestine as the current Israeli assault over
Gaza continues.
This is the single largest massacre in Gaza since Israel illegally
occupied Gaza in 1967, many among the dead are civilians and the numbers
keeps mounting.
Israel's military operation "Cast Lead" has echoes of previous Israeli
raids into Gaza that have been characterized by indiscriminate attacks on
civilian population centers, mass detentions, violent house demolitions
and other forms of collective punishment against the Palestinian people.
Additionally this demonstration will address the Canadian government's
total support towards Israel, best exemplified increased bilateral
military, political and economic links.
Israel's latest massacre in Gaza occurs with official Canadian complicity
towards Israel's illegal siege and ongoing sanctions over the civilian
population in Gaza. Over the past two years the Gaza Strip has been
undergoing the daily violence of a wide-ranging humanitarian catastrophe
triggered by severely reduced access to energy, food, and medicines. In
effect, Gaza is the world's largest open air prison.
At this moment, we can only reaffirm our commitment in the strongest
possible terms to continue mobilizing friends and allies in other
progressive social movements to respond to the call by over 170
Palestinian civil society organizations for a comprehensive campaign of
boycott, sanctions and divestment (BDS).
As H.E. Father Miguel D'Escoto Brockman, President of the United Nations
General Assembly state in a recent speech: "More than twenty years ago we in
the United Nations took the lead from civil society when we agreed that
sanctions were required to provide a nonviolent means of pressuring South
Africa to end its violations. Today, perhaps we in the United Nations should
consider following the lead of a new generation of civil society, who are
calling for a similar non-violent campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions
to pressure Israel to end its violations."
Join us on the streets tomorrow as people of conscience to stand in
solidarity with the Palestinian people of Gaza and an end to Israeli
apartheid.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stop the Massacres, Let Gaza Live
Last night Israel announced the end of the blockade of Gaza and this morning they bombed over 280 Gazans to death and wounded over 700, and the threat of further killings still hangs heavily over the skies of Palestine as the current Israeli assault over Gaza continues.
This is the single largest massacre in Gaza since Israel illegally occupied the area in 1967. The numbers of dead are mounting, especially as the already limited medical supplies are running out due to the brutal siege of Gaza since 2005.
This is a war crime on an industrial scale.
We call on the federal opposition parties to ask the Harper Government to condemn the Israeli massacre of the Palestinian people in Gaza .
There will be a demonstration outside the Israeli Consulate in Toronto
Where: 180 Bloor Street West
When: 2:00 p.m. on Sunday 28th December 2008.

Tuesday, December 30: National Day of Action
Emergency Demonstrations on Tuesday, December 30 and other days (listed below)
The ANSWER Coalition, Muslim American Society Freedom, Free Palestine Alliance, National Council of Arab Americans, and Al-Awda, International Palestine Right to Return Coalition are calling for Tuesday, December 30 to be a National Day of Action to show solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza and to demand an immediate end to the murderous attacks carried out by the Israeli military against the people of Gaza.
In Washington, D.C., there will be a demonstration at the State Department at 4:30 pm. Demonstrations will also be held in cities around the country. See below for an initial list. If there is a demonstration in your city, email the details to info@answercoalitio n.org so it can be posted on the ANSWER Coalition website and listed in any future emails.
The U.S.-backed Israeli Occupation Force destroyed every security station in Gaza. AFP reported: "There was no space left in the morgue and bodies were piled up in the emergency room and in the corridors, as many of the wounded screamed in pain."
Because of the U.S.-backed Israeli blockade and strangulation of the people of Gaza for the past 18 months there is little or no medicine to treat the wounded, electricity for hospitals, or food or clean water for much of the population.
An Israeli military spokesperson said, "The operation is 'only just beginning'." The Israeli Defense Ministry said in a statement: "The action will continue and will widen as much as is demanded according to the evaluation of the situation by the high command of the army."

As of this writing, Israeli Air Force attacks today on the occupied Gaza Strip killed an estimated 200 or more people and injured hundreds more. These Israeli attacks come on top of a brutal siege of the Gaza Strip, which has created a humanitarian catastrophe of dire proportions for Gaza's 1.5 million Palestinian residents by restricting the provision of food, fuel, medicine, electricity, and other necessities of life.
While the scope of civilian casualties in today's attacks is not yet clear, it is unmistakable that Israel carried out these attacks with F16 fighter jets and missiles provided by the taxpayers of this country. From 2001-2006, the United States transferred to Israel more than $200 million worth of spare parts to fly its fleet of F16's. In July 2008, the United States gave Israel 186 million gallons of JP-8 aviation jet fuel. Last year, the United States signed a $1.3 billion contract with Raytheon to transfer to Israel thousands of TOW, Hellfire, and "bunker buster" missiles.
In short, Israel's lethal attack today on the Gaza Strip could not have happened without the active military and political support of the United States. Therefore, we need to take action to protest this attack and demand an immediate cease-fire.
1. Contact the White House to protest the attack and demand an immediate cease-fire. Call 202-456-1111 or send an email to comments@whitehouse.gov. 5. Organize a local protest or vigil and tell us about it by clicking here.

30 seconds for Gaza - please...
On Saturday, Dec. 27th, Israel killed over 230 Palestinians, and wounded over 400. In a press statement, Canada's minister of foreign affairs excused Israel's attack as "self defence." Please click on the link below to tell our Canadian political leaders that the madness in Gaza has gone on far too long. Canada must call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. Please do this for the sake of Gaza and its people.

EMERGENCY RALLIES PROTEST ISRAELI BOMBING MASSACRE IN THE GAZA STRIP
Sunday, December 28, 2008
Yesterday about mid-morning local time, the Israeli Air Force despatched more than 100 tonnes of bombs in 60 or more F-16 fighter aircraft and attacked the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. Today they continued bombings in the vicinity of Beit Hanoun. At latest report, more than 300 people were killed and at least 900 wounded. Although the Rafah Crossing was opened to take cases to Egyptian hospitals, continued Israeli shelling has rendered such medical assistance impossible, leaving the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip once again to fall back entirely on their own resources.
Although the Israeli Air Force and government claimed to be targeting "only" Hamas police and security installations, the overwhelming majority of the casualties are civilians and this is clearly an act of collective punishment in violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and all other norms of international law, justice or morality.
Coming forward as CONCERNED CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS OF HALIFAX, we denounce the Israeli government's latest brutal acts and join in the call already raised around the world for an immediate ceasefire to stop the bombing. We also demand the lifting of the inhuman siege of the Gaza Strip that Israel has maintained with the full support of the United States, Canada, the European Union and a number of Arab governments.
We also deem unacceptable the outrageous response of the Canadian foreign minister, Lawrence Cannon, to yesterday's events. First and foremost, he blames the present situation on the home-made rockets being fired by Palestinian resistance forces against their occupier. Then he does not fail to echo His Master's Voice --- in Washington DC --- that Israel should only try to avoid killing civilians!
We, the concerned citizens and residents of Halifax, demand:
1. an immediate end to this latest massacre, comprising a ceasefire by Israeli forces and an end to the bombing; and
2. lifting the siege of Gaza, including resumption of full flow of aid and supplies into the Gaza Strip, the reopening of the Rafah Crossing as an international boundary and permission/access for aid workers, journalists and internationally protected persons to come and go in and out of the Gaza Strip.
There will be two actions in Halifax Nova Scotia today:
