To our Members of Parliament,
The disturbing events and massacres being committed upon the Palestinian people in Gaza by the Israeli army have caught the attention and raised a great concern of my family and community. 274 Palestinians died this morning, a 1000 of them were wounded in a vicious attack by the state of Israel. You can imagine how appalled and how angry we are as Canadians, let alone anyone who has one shred of humanity or morals left. Israel is conducting ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people in Gaza; as a Canadian I refuse to provide Israel with amnesty for its deliberate massacre of the civilian masses in Gaza.
If nations are allowed to commit genocide with impunity, to hide their guilt in a camouflage of lies and denials, there is a real danger that other brutal regimes will be encouraged to attempt genocides. For more than a year and a half, the “democratic” state of Israel has been punishing Palestinians in Gaza for democratically electing their government. Israel has been ignoring the international law and has been constantly violating every aspect of human rights. The siege on Gaza has left civilians with no bread, no water, no oil, no electricity, no medical care; they have turned Gaza into a no man’s island. Forgive my ignorance, but where in the documents of the international law or human rights have Israel been given the right to do all that?
Today Israel’s violations have reached an alarming point, on their holly Sabbath day they have killed 274 and wounded thousands of people, and this is not the first nor will it be the last massacre. During the Christmas holiday Palestinian kids have received more than what they asked for from Santa. After living in a constant state of fear they lose their families through no fault of their own, they lose their laughter, they lose their lives.
Washing one’s hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral. That is why we demand that Canada, being an advocate of human rights and a supporter of the international law, sides not with the powerful and stands up for the powerless. The injustice treatment and bias is shockingly obvious. The international society doesn’t treat Israel like it treats other countries. For instance; Omar Al Bashir, the president of Sudan, is wanted internationally for his war crimes in Darfur! On the other hand, the international law society seems to stand at midpoint between the victim and the killer when it comes to the Palestinian -Israeli issue.
This is the duty of our generation as we enter a new year – solidarity with the weak, the persecuted, the lonely, the sick, and those in despair. It is expressed by the desire to give a noble and humanizing meaning to a community in which all members will define themselves not by their own identity but by that of others. The first principal of nonviolent action is that of noncooperation with everything humiliating.
As Canadians we demand that Canada remain a symbol of humanity in the world, we demand that Canada clearly and officially condemns Israel’s actions in hope of putting pressure on Israel to stop these new year massacres, which by the way when asked for details Israel said it is just the beginning! We won’t settle for less than a public statement and a national stand point, starting by pulling out the Canadian ambassador from Israel. Canada is always on the side of humanity, we must not diverge from that path; the silence of our government toward the latest horrific events in Gaza indicates that we are in conformity with the Israeli military actions against Gaza which is aimed to deliberately massacre Palestinians. Canada should be a symbol of freedom and equality and by keeping quite we are distorting the peaceful Canadian image. We the people of Canada ask our government to take a stance against massacres in Gaza.
