Israel denies PHR team entry into Gaza

They've turned an occupied territory into a concentration camp--
for shame! and how on earth can they justify withholding medical
personnel and equipment?

Gaza siege causing major health crisis

A team of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has been forced to turn back after being denied entry into the embattled Gaza Strip by Israel.

The PHR delegation - consisting of Israeli Arab surgeons, orthopedists, an oncologist, a psychologist and a social worker - was scheduled to deliver advanced medical equipment for Palestinians hospitalized in Khan Younis and Gaza's Shifa Hospital.

A PHR statement released shortly after the incident said that Israel had revoked its original consent to the trip while doctors were already on their way to the area.

"We have 350 patients waiting for us in Khan Younis. Some of the patients are in serious condition and some were refused entry to Israel for treatment,” said Salah Haj Yehia, who headed the delegation.

"We were given the necessary authorization on Monday, but this morning I got a call that it was revoked… We have no intention of violating the sanctity of Yom Kippur. We only wanted to use this time off to care for the sick,” he added.

The Israeli-imposed blockade on Gaza has prevented medical aid from Jordan, Qatar, the Red Cross and the European Union from reaching Gazans.

In addition, hospitals in Gaza are out of funds and the United Nations has warned of a devastating humanitarian crisis.
