Palestinian NGO established by human rights activists in 1992. It provides legal support to Palestinian prisoners, and monitors prisoner numbers, conditions in prisons and violations of prisoners’ human rights. Campaigns to end the torture and ill-treatment of all Palestinians in prison.

Ramallah based Palestinian non-governmental human rights organisation. Established "To protect and promote human rights and the rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territories," Al Haq documents violations of Palestinian human rights, and holds all perpetrators to account. Also cooperates with Palestinian NGO’s and governmental institutions to ensure international human rights standards are incorporated into Palestinian law and policies.

AL MUBADARA – THE PALESTINIAN NATIONAL INITIATIVE

Palestinian political party established in 2002. Its main objective is the realization of Palestinian national rights and the formation of a just and sustainable peace. Also calls for a new national Palestinian leadership to create a democratic political system at all levels, and to design and implement institutional and administrative structures in direct consultation with the Palestinian people.

The AIC was jointly set up by Israeli and Palestinian activists to disseminate information and critical analysis of Palestinian and Israeli societies, as well as the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Also deeply involved in political advocacy and grassroots activism. AIC has offices in Jerusalem, and in Beit Sahur, near Bethlehem, where regular alternative film screenings are held.

Claims to be "America’s pro-Palestine pro-peace lobby." It has both educational and legislative missions. Its educational mission is "To inform the US public about Palestinian rights, and the role of the US in the Arab-Israeli relationship," and its legislative mission, "To shape a US foreign policy that recognises and seeks to advance the human and national rights of the Palestinian people."

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL (AI)

Global movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI has always been independent of any government, political ideology, economic interest or religion. Its mandate is to undertake research and action, focused on preventing and ending all abuses of human rights. Has more than 2.2 million members across 150 countries.

ANARCHISTS AGAINST THE WALL (AATW)

Established in response to the construction of the West Bank Wall, AATW are a group of Israeli activists, who, in cooperation with Palestinians, carry out non-violent direct actions against the Israeli occupation of Palestine. All their work in Palestine is coordinated through villages’ local popular committees, and is "essentially Palestinian led."

BIL’IN VILLAGE

The villagers of Bil’in recently won a Supreme Court case against the State of Israel. Their victory has forced the state of Israel to re-route the section of Wall that had illegally confiscated 60% of Bilín’s land. The Bilín Village Committee Against the Wall set up this popular local website, that offers up-to-date information on Bilín and its neighbouring villagers, plus invitations for activists and visitors to join the ongoing non-violent demonstration every Friday.

BIRZEIT INSTITUTE OF COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC HEALTH

Established in Birzeit thirty years ago in response to an urgent local need for independent and informed health and human resource development, research and planning. Now based in Ramallah, the institute focuses on improving Palestinian health and health services by conducting policy and program-oriented research, plus teaching and training.

B’TSELEM

B’Tselem is the ’The Israeli Information Centre for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories.’ Set up in 1989 by a group of academics, attorneys, journalists, and Knesset members, its remit is to change Israeli state policy in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). B’Tselem documents Israeli human rights abuses in the OPT, and informs policy makers of these abuses. The centre employs Israeli and Palestinian staff and actively cooperates with Palestinian organisations.

CAMPAGNE POUR LA PROTECTION DU PEUPLE PALESTINIEN

This ‘International civil campaign for the protection of the Palestinian people’ was set up in 2001, in response to Ariel Sharon becoming the Israeli Prime Minister. The campaigners believed Sharon’s election marked the end of the Oslo Peace Accords. They cooperate with Palestinian and anti-colonial Israeli organizations, and send missions to Palestine, in order to observe, document and intervene peacefully.

An independent think tank that aims to inform American policy makers about “The Palestinian political experience.” It’s also the educational program of the Washington based Jerusalem Fund - a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to the study and analysis of the relationship between the United States and the Middle East, especially the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Israeli and Palestinian ex-combatants set up this movement together in 2005, in order to “End the cycle of violence, the bloodshed and the occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.” CFP is committed to active non-violence, dialogue and reconciliation, in order to terminate the Israeli occupation, halt the Israeli settlement program and establish a Palestinian State with its capital in East Jerusalem, alongside the State of Israel.

Non profit Israeli NGO committed to protecting the rights of disadvantaged workers employed in Israel and workers in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including Palestinians, migrant workers, subcontracted workers and new immigrants. Kav Laoved offers marginalised workers one-to-one support, advice, legal aid and advocacy. Has branches in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and Be’er Sheva.

JEWS FOR A JUST PEACE

Canada based Jewish organisation whose stated purpose is “To build support in our community for a fair and just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” It supports Israel’s right to peace and security, but categorically opposes the Israeli occupation of Palestine, and calls for the withdrawal of all Israeli forces from the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) including East Jerusalem.

GCMHP is the leading mental health organisation in Palestine re providing psycho-social programs, and uses comprehensive community-based approaches to work with women and children.

Established in 1989 by a group of experienced researchers, health practitioners and development experts, HDIP is committed to improving the status of health care for all Palestinians in the OPT. The institute specializes in policy, research and planning in different developmental sectors across the West Bank and Gaza Strip. HDIP staff also advocate for better government policies on behalf of marginalized groups, such as women, youth and the disabled.

INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT (ISM)

Jointly set up by Israeli and Palestinian activists in 2001, ISM describes itself as “Palestinian led” and is committed to using non-violent direct action to resist the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Operates on the principle that a visible non violent international presence can protect Palestinian civilians from Israeli aggression and human rights abuses. ISM aims to break down isolation, provide hope, and challenge mainstream media perceptions of the Israeli military occupation of Palestine. Offers volunteer training and placements in the West Bank.

The official network of Palestinian non-governmental organizations in Israel. These NGO’s provide crucial support structures and services to Palestinians in Israel. ITTJAH is based in Haifa, from where it coordinates the activities and strategies of its member organizations.

ISRAELI COMMITTEE AGAINST HOUSE DEMOLITIONS (ICAD)

Direct-action group of Israeli peace, justice and human rights activists. ICAD works closely with local Palestinian organizations in order to resist the demolition of Palestinian homes. Activists physically block bulldozers, provide practical support to affected families and communities, and disseminate information in Israel and Palestine.

Network of British Jews and Jews living in Britain, that includes Zionists, practising and secular Jews. Set up by a group of Israeli women in 2001, Machsom Watch campaigns against “The Israeli Occupation of the [Palestinian] territories, and against the systematic repression of the Palestinian nation.” Members of Machsom Watch also take part in checkpoint monitoring, and offer tours to checkpoints for people to witness the realities of checkpoints for themselves.

Campaign group based in the US city of Chicago. Set up by a coalition of Jewish, Muslim and Christian members who believe the Israeli military occupation of Palestine is destroying both societies. NIMN networks with Palestinian, Arab and Muslim communities, and other faith groups “Who are concerned with this issue.” Also supports and publicises the work of Israeli peace groups.

Established in 2000, in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the West Bank and Gaza, OCHA aims to improve the humanitarian situation by enhancing coordination between agencies to ensure effective distribution of humanitarian assistance. Palestinian non-profit institution that presents the Palestinian Question within national, Arab and international contexts. Cooperates and coordinates with other Palestinian institutions inside and outside of Palestine, in order to ensure a wider understanding of Palestinian issues. PALESTINIAN AGRICULTURAL RELIEF COMMITTEES (PARC)

These committees offer advice and expertise to poor and marginalized farmers in the Jordan Valley region of the West Bank, and aim to secure long-term food local security, empower rural Palestinian women, enhance institutional capacities and develop sustainable research programs.

PALESTINIAN CAMPAIGN FOR THE CULTURAL BOYCOTT OF ISRAEL

A group of Palestinian academics launched this campaign in 2004. They are calling for a comprehensive economic, cultural and academic boycott of Israel until it withdraws from all Palestinian land occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, removes all Israeli settlements, agrees to UN resolutions on the rights of refugees, and dismantles its system of apartheid.

Independent Palestinian human rights organisation based in Gaza city. It has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council, and is affiliated to the International Commission of Jurists in Geneva and the International Federation for Human Rights. PCHR protects Palestinian human rights by documenting and investigating human rights violations. The centre provides legal aid and counselling to victims of violations, and produces a weekly report documenting violations in Palestine.

The bureau is a branch of the Palestinian Authority. Its main function is to provide official and accurate statistics on demographic, social, economic and environmental states and trends. Has a useful, if cumbersome, website.

PALESTINIAN HYDROLOGY GROUP

Non profit organization set up to promote the role of women and civil society in managing local water and its related environmental resources. The group works to ensure transparency and good water governance, and equal provision of water and sanitation services to rural communities in the West Bank and Gaza.

PALESTINIAN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

Sometimes called the Palestinian Parliament, this is the legislature of the Palestinian Authority. It has 132 members, elected from 16 electoral districts in the West Bank and Gaza. Half its members are elected by proportional representation, the other half by traditional constituencies.

PALESTINIAN LIBERATION ORGANISATION (PLO)

The PLO was established in Jerusalem in 1964. On October 14th, 1974, it was recognised by the United Nations General Assembly as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people. According to the PLO Charter Art 26, “The PLO….is responsible for the Palestinian Arab people’s movement in its struggle – to retrieve its homeland, liberate and return to it and exercise the right to self determination in it…..”

Established in 1994, to follow up on implementation of the Interim Agreement signed between Israel and the PLO. NAD has offices in Gaza and Ramallah. The NAD Gaza office deals with Israeli affairs, Israeli violations of signed agreements, illegal settlement policies and Palestinian refugees. The Ramallah office follows up on the Interim Agreements and is responsible for preparing Palestinian positions for permanent status talks with Israel.

The Palestinian National Authority (also called the Palestinian Authority) is an interim administrative organisation that governs parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. It was established in 1994, in response to the Oslo Accords signed between the PLO and the Government of Israel. The PNA was originally set up to be a five year transitional body that would negotiate final status of the Occupied Palestinian Territories with Israel.

Its founding principles are the right of Israel to live within secure borders, and the right of Palestinians to self-determination. Grassroots ‘anti-apartheid wall campaign’ established by a coalition of NGO’s and local Palestinian Committees. The campaign goals aims to stop any further construction of the Wall, to dismantle the parts that have been built, return all confiscated land to the Palestinian owners, and compensate them for all financial losses.

THE FREEDOM THEATRE

Based in Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, the Freedom Theatre uses performing arts as a model for social change. Offers children and young people in Jenin camp a safe space to express themselves, and develop skills, self-knowledge and confidence. The theatre holds regular performances by local children working in conjunction with visiting artists.

THE PALESTINIAN HUMAN RIGHTS MONITORING GROUP (PHRMG)

Established in 1996 by a diverse group of Palestinians, including Legislative Council members, newspaper editors and religious leaders, in response to the deteriorating human rights under the new PNA. PHRMG documents human rights violations committed by Palestinians and Israelis against Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.

THE PALESTINIAN MEDICAL RELIEF SOCIETY (PMRS)

Major Palestinian health NGO set up in 1979 by Palestinian doctors and health professionals. Aims to improve primary and secondary health care provisions across the OPT. PMRS has doctors and clinics across the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, and has trained hundreds of volunteer paramedics to respond to medical emergencies.

BADIL RESOURCE CENTRE FOR PALESTINIAN REFUGEES AND RESIDENCY RIGHTS

Established in 1998 to support the development of a popular refugee lobby for the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Focuses on the rights of Palestinian refugees and displaced persons, based on international law, relevant UN resolutions, and the participation of refugees themselves.

PALESTINE SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN (PSC)

Claims to be the largest and most active campaigning organisation in the UK on the issue of Palestine. Aims to build an effective mass campaign by organising protests, political lobbying and awareness raising. Supports the Palestinian right of return as stipulated in UN Resolution 194, and works to highlight human rights abuses committed by Israelis.

THE PALESTINE SOLIDARITY ASSOCIATION IN SWEDEN

Established in 1976, it considers the Palestinian struggle for national independence an inalienable component of peace in the Middle East. Funds a number of projects in Palestine, including rehabilitation support for disabled people in refugee camps and accessible primary education.

The Actieplatform Palestine is a Flemish colation of NGOs and solidarity committees which strives for a just peace in Israel and Palestine. The platform organises information campains in Flanders and observation missions in Palestine. Actieplatform Palestine also promotes Palestinian Fair Trade products and is involved in political lobbying.

An Icelandic solidarity movement which aims to support and raise awareness of the Palestinian struggle against the occupation and refugee’s right of return and to work against all forms of apartheid in Palestine. Its main activities include fundraising for emergency relief in the occupied territories, organizing meetings, demonstrations and lectures, inviting Palestinians to visit Iceland in the purpose of advocating their cause and helping volunteers to prepare their trips to Palestine as well as funding them.

The Danish Palestinian Friendship Association was founded in the spring of 1988. It seeks to further the political, social and cultural interaction between the Danes and the Palestinians. The Association supports the efforts to secure the human and national rights of the Palestinians, including the right to self-determination and the formation of an independent Palestinian state in the Israeli occupied territories in accordance with UN Resolution 242 and 338 and with Jerusalem/Al Quds as its capital.
