It gives us great pleasure to announce two important events ACLA has planned on October 28th and 29th, 2008 in Toronto. Please see attachment for complete details on the events and our speakers or visit our website www.canarablaw.org. These events join a year-long series of events commemorating the Nakba.
ACLA is organizing the Toronto portion of the Al-Haq Canadian speaking tour. Al-Haq is a Palestinian human rights legal organization based in Ramallah (www.alhaq.org). It is the West Bank Affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists. The first event is a public lecture, co-presented with U of T Law’s International Human Rights Program, featuring members of Al-Haq’s Legal Research and Advocacy Unit and Toronto lawyer Mark Arnold discussing the Bil’in Case. The Palestinian village of Bil’in has sued two Quebec companies for allegedly building settlements on their occupied land. For information on the lawsuit please see http://www.alhaq.org/
The second event is the screening of the documentary Memory of the Cactus, produced by Al Haq and co-presented by ACLA at the inaugural Toronto Palestine Film Festival (www.tpff.ca). Following the screening, members of Al-Haq will be holding a discussion on the film, which focuses on the establishment of “Canada Park” on the remnants of three Palestinian villages destroy in 1967. Canada Park was established by the Jewish National Fund, which is registered in Canada as a charity.
ACLA/TPFF is looking for volunteers, sponsors, donations for these events. If you are interested in assisting us please send an email to info@tpff.ca. All contributions are welcome. If you are not in the Toronto area but would like to see Al-Haq and/or their documentary, Al-Haq will be on tour in eastern and central Canada in October. We will post a complete Canada-wide program once it is finalized or please send an email to ACLA with your location to receive information on events scheduled in your city.
We thank you in advance for your support, and look forward to seeing you on October 28 and 29th.
