Canadian Arab Federation La Fédération Canado-Arabe |
ACTION ALERT |
The Canadian Arab Federation (CAF) has become increasingly concerned with the targeting of Canadian Arab and Muslim youth by rhetoric from some government officials that is resulting in biased media coverage.
Recently, articles published claim that “Hezbollah terrorists” have infiltrated the Canadian border and are poised to attack a Jewish institution of some sort. The article implies the imminence of this threat based on claims made by a so-called former CSIS official.
This article raises serious concerns as it is part of a growing campaign of fear mongering directed at the Canadian public. CAF wrote a letter to the Minister of Public Safety, Stockwell Day, to voice these concerns over government discourse that is contributing to the perpetuation of media stereotypes and the characterization of Arabs and Muslims as potential terrorists.
Attached below is the letter sent to the Honourable Stockwell Day. We at CAF urge you to contact your local MP’s about this issue.
To contact your MP - You may call your MP at his or her constituency office or in Ottawa toll free at 1-866-599-4999 (ask for your MP's office by name or riding when the central switchboard answers the call).
